Automated X-ray Defect Inspection on Occluded BGA Balls Using Hybrid Algorithm

Automated X-ray defect inspection of occluded objects has been an essential topic in semiconductors,autonomous vehicles,and artificial intelligence devices.However,there are few solutions to segment occluded objects in the X-ray inspection efficiently.In particular,in the Ball Grid Array inspection of X-ray images,it is difficult to accurately segment the regions of occluded solder balls and detect defects inside solder balls.In this paper,we present a novel automatic inspection algorithm that segments solder balls,and detects defects fast and efficiently when solder balls are occluded.The proposed algorithm consists of two stages.In the first stage,the defective candidates or defects are determined through the following four steps:(i)image preprocessing such as noise removal,contrast enhancement,binarization,connected component,and morphology,(ii)limiting the inspec-tion area to the ball regions and determining if the ball regions are occluded,(iii)segmenting each ball region into one or more regions with similar gray values,and(iv)determining whether there are defects or defective candidates in the regions using a weighted sum of local threshold on local variance.If there are defective candidates,the determination of defects is finally made in the following stage.In the second stage,defects are detected using the automated inspection technique based on oblique computed tomography.The 3D precision inspection process is divided into four steps:(i)obtaining 360 projection images(one image per degree)rotating the object from 0 to 360 degrees,(ii)reconstructing a 3D image from the 360 projected images,(iii)finding the center slice of gravity for solder balls from the axial slice images in the z-direction,and getting the inspection intervals between the upper bound and the lower bound from the center slice,and(iv)finally determining whether there are defects in the averaged image of solder balls.The proposed hybrid algorithm is robust for segmenting the defects inside occluded solder balls,and improves the performanc

The role of innate immunity in diabetic nephropathy and their therapeutic consequences

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is an enduring condition that leads to inflammation and affects a substantial number of individuals with diabetes worldwide. A gradual reduction in glomerular filtration and emergence of proteins in the urine are typical aspects of DN, ultimately resulting in renal failure. Mounting evidence suggests that immunological and inflammatory factors are crucial for the development of DN. Therefore, the activation of innate immunity by resident renal and immune cells is critical for initiating and perpetuating inflammation. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are an important group of receptors that identify patterns and activate immune responses and inflammation. Meanwhile, inflammatory responses in the liver, pancreatic islets, and kidneys involve inflammasomes and chemokines that generate pro-inflammatory cytokines. Moreover, the activation of the complement cascade can be triggered by glycated proteins. This review highlights recent findings elucidating how the innate immune system contributes to tissue fibrosis and organ dysfunction, ultimately leading to renal failure. This review also discusses innovative approaches that can be utilized to modulate the innate immune responses in DN for therapeutic purposes.

New Second-Level-Discrete Zeroing Neural Network for Solving Dynamic Linear System

Dear Editor,This letter deals with a new second-level-discretization method with higher precision than the traditional first-level-discretization method.Specifically,the traditional discretization method utilizes the first-order time derivative information,and it is termed first-level-discretization method.By contrast,the new discretization method not only utilizes the first-order time derivative information,but also makes use of the second-order derivative information.By combining the new second-level-discretization method with zeroing neural network(ZNN),the second-level-discrete ZNN(SLDZNN)model is proposed to solve dynamic(i.e.,time-variant or time-dependent)linear system.Numerical experiments and application to angle-of-arrival(AoA)localization show the effectiveness and superiority of the SLDZNN model.

A nickel-hydride(Ni H)-catalyzed migratory and nonmigratory hydroalkylation reaction of 2-alkenyl azaarenes with alkyl iodines has been established through strategic modulation of N-or P-donor ligands.This method enables the synthesis of diverseβ-orγ-branched aromatic N-heterocycles.The mild regiodivergent protocols exhibit wide substrate scope,excellent functional tolerance,and great reaction yield with remarkable regioselectivity.Importantly,deuterium labeling studies reveal Ni H-catalyzed interrupted chain-walking mode as the mechanism behind remotedβ-selective hydroalkylation reaction—an interesting phenomenon mediated through aromatic imine directing groups.

In this paper, we have introduced the concepts of pseudomonotonicity properties for nonlinear transformations defined on Euclidean Jordan algebras. The implications between this property and other P-properties have been studied. More importantly, we have solved the solvability problem of the nonlinear pseudomonotone complementarity problems over symmetric cones.

Physiological and pathological functions of circular RNAs in the nervous system

Circular RNAs(circRNAs)are a class of covalently closed single-stranded RNAs that are expressed during the development of specific cells and tissues.CircRNAs play crucial roles in physiological and pathological processes by sponging microRNAs,modulating gene transcription,controlling the activity of certain RNA-binding proteins,and producing functional peptides.A key focus of research at present is the functionality of circRNAs in the nervous system and several advances have emerged over the last 2 years.However,the precise role of circRNAs in the nervous system has yet to be comprehensively reviewed.In this review,we first summarize the recently described roles of circRNAs in brain development,maturity,and aging.Then,we focus on the involvement of circRNAs in various diseases of the central nervous system,such as brain cancer,chronic neurodegenerative diseases,acute injuries of the nervous system,and neuropathic pain.A better understanding of the functionality of circRNAs will help us to develop potential diagnostic,prognostic,and therapeutic strategies to treat diseases of the nervous system.

Identification of Early Warning Signals of Infectious Diseases in Hospitals by Integrating Clinical Treatment and Disease Prevention

The global incidence of infectious diseases has increased in recent years,posing a significant threat to human health.Hospitals typically serve as frontline institutions for detecting infectious diseases.However,accurately identifying warning signals of infectious diseases in a timely manner,especially emerging infectious diseases,can be challenging.Consequently,there is a pressing need to integrate treatment and disease prevention data to conduct comprehensive analyses aimed at preventing and controlling infectious diseases within hospitals.This paper examines the role of medical data in the early identification of infectious diseases,explores early warning technologies for infectious disease recognition,and assesses monitoring and early warning mechanisms for infectious diseases.We propose that hospitals adopt novel multidimensional early warning technologies to mine and analyze medical data from various systems,in compliance with national strategies to integrate clinical treatment and disease prevention.Furthermore,hospitals should establish institution-specific,clinical-based early warning models for infectious diseases to actively monitor early signals and enhance preparedness for infectious disease prevention and control.

Real-Time Anomaly Detection in Packaged Food X-Ray Images Using Supervised Learning

Physical contamination of food occurs when it comes into contact with foreign objects.Foreign objects can be introduced to food at any time during food delivery and packaging and can cause serious concerns such as broken teeth or choking.Therefore,a preventive method that can detect and remove foreign objects in advance is required.Several studies have attempted to detect defective products using deep learning networks.Because it is difficult to obtain foreign object-containing food data from industry,most studies on industrial anomaly detection have used unsupervised learning methods.This paper proposes a new method for real-time anomaly detection in packaged food products using a supervised learning network.In this study,a realistic X-ray image training dataset was constructed by augmenting foreign objects with normal product images in a cut-paste manner.Based on the augmented training dataset,we trained YOLOv4,a real-time object detection network,and detected foreign objects in the test data.We evaluated this method on images of pasta,snacks,pistachios,and red beans under the same conditions.The results show that the normal and defective products were classified with an accuracy of at least 94%for all packaged foods.For detecting foreign objects that are typically difficult to detect using the unsupervised learning and traditional methods,the proposed method achieved high-performance realtime anomaly detection.In addition,to eliminate the loss in high-resolution X-ray images,the false positive rate and accuracy could be lowered to 5%with patch-based training and a new post-processing algorithm.

Universal method for designing periodic orbits by homotopy classes in the elliptic restricted three-body problem

The current methods for designing periodic orbits in the elliptic restricted three-body problem(ERTBP)have the disadvantages of targeting limited orbits and ergodic searches and considering only symmetric orbits.A universal method for designing periodic orbits is proposed in this paper.First,the homotopy classes of orbits are structured based on their topological structures.Second,a dynamic model based on homotopy classes,ranging from the circular restricted three-body problem(CRTBP)to the ERTBP,can be built using the homotopy method.Third,a multi-and a single-period orbit were selected based on the resonance ratios.Finally,the corresponding orbit in the ERTBP was computed by modifying the initial condition of the orbit in the CRTBP.This method,without an ergodic search,can extend to any orbit,including an asymmetric orbit in the CRTBP,to the ERTBP model,and the two orbits are of the same homotopy class.Examples of the Earth–Moon ERTBP are presented to verify the efficiency of this method.

Effect of a cervical collar on optic nerve sheath diameter in trauma patients

BACKGROUND:As advocated in advanced trauma life support and prehospital trauma life support protocols,cervical immobilization is applied until cervical spine injury is excluded.This study aimed to show the difference in optic nerve sheath diameter(ONSD)between patients with and without a cervical collar using computed tomography(CT).METHODS:This was a single-center,retrospective study examining trauma patients who presented to the emergency department between January 1,2021,and December 31,2021.The ONSD on brain CT of the trauma patients was measured and analyzed to determine whether there was a difference between the ONSD with and without the cervical collar.RESULTS:The study population consisted of 169 patients.On CT imaging of patients with(n=66)and without(n=103)cervical collars,the mean ONSD in the axial plane were 5.43±0.50 mm and 5.04±0.46 mm respectively for the right eye and 5.50±0.52 mm and 5.11±0.46 mm respectively for the left eye.The results revealed an association between the presence of a cervical collar and the mean ONSD,which was statistically significant(P<0.001)for both the right and left eyes.CONCLUSION:A cervical collar may be associated with increased ONSD.The effect of this increase in the ONSD on clinical outcomes needs to be investigated,and the actual need for cervical collar in the emergency department should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
