Development of selenium nanoparticles stabilized by novel polysaccharides from Stauntonia brachyanthera pulp for anti-hepatoma cell proliferation

In this study,the novel polysaccharides extracted from Stauntonia Brachyanthera pulp were used as stabilizers for the preparation of selenium nanoparticles(SBPPs-SeNPs).The preparation process,structural characterization,stability,and anti-hepatoma cell activity of SBPPs-SeNPs were studied in *** results showed that the SBPPs-SeNPs were symmetrical spheres with an average diameter of about 30-40 nm under optimal process *** interacted with SeNPs via hydroxyl groups on the surface of SBPPs to form C-O-Se ***-SeNPs exhibited good stability during the 21-day storage period at 4℃,likely due to the interaction between SeNPs and the hydroxyl ***,in vitro anti-tumor experiments demonstrated that SBPPs-SeNPs significantly inhibited the proliferation of HepG2 cells in a dose-dependent manner,and induced morphological changes,and cell cycle arrest in S ***-SeNPs also triggered apoptosis in HepG2 cells through the mitochondrial *** findings suggested that SBPPs-SeNPs have the potential to become novel anti-hepatoma agents.

Currently, most developing countries have not set up municipal solid waste management systems with a view of recovering energy from waste or reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In this article, we have studied the possible effects of introducing three energy recovery processes either as a single or combination approach, refuse derived fuel production,incineration and waste power generation, and methane gas recovery from landfill and power generation in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as a case study. We concluded that incineration process is the most suitable as first introduction of energy recovery. To operate it efficiently,3Rs strategies need to be promoted. And then, RDF production which is made of waste papers and plastics in high level of sorting may be considered as the second step of energy ***, safety control and marketability of RDF will be required at that moment.

Going beyond an improved colour gamut,an asymmetric colour contrast,which depends on the viewing direction,and its ability to readily deliver information could create opportunities for a wide range of applications,such as nextgeneration optical switches,colour displays,and security features in anti-counterfeiting ***,we propose a simple Fabry–Perot etalon architecture capable of generating viewing-direction-sensitive colour contrasts and encrypting pre-inscribed information upon immersion in particular solvents(optical camouflage).Based on the experimental verification of the theoretical modelling,we have discovered a completely new and exotic optical phenomenon involving a tuneable colour switch for viewing-direction-dependent information delivery,which we define as asymmetric optical camouflage.

We present a 69-year-old woman with a duodenal obstruction after successful selective transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for a duodenal diverticular hemorrhage. Two weeks after TAE, the patient showed abrupt symptoms of duodenal obstruction. Resolving hematomas after successful selective transcatheter arterial embolization should be thoroughly observed because they might result in duodenal fibrotic encasement featuring inflammatory duodenal wall thickening, duodenal deformity, dysmotility, and fi nally obstruction.

BACKGROUND A 70-year-old man with hepatitis C virus-related recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma was admitted for further diagnosis of a 1 cm iso-hyperechoic nodule in segment(S)*** SUMMARY Gadolinium ethoxybenzyl diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(EOB-MRI)revealed the nodule in S5 with a defect at the hepatobiliary phase,hyperintensity on diffusion weighted imaging(DWI)and hypointensity on apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)***-enhanced computed tomography revealed hypervascularity at the early phase,and delayed contrast-enhancement was observed at the late ***-enhanced ultrasound(US)revealed incomplete defect at the late vascular *** liver tumor,lymphoproliferative disease,intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(small duct type)and bile duct adenoma were suspected through the imaging *** guided biopsy,however,showed a noncaseating hepatic sarcoid-like epithelioid granuloma(HSEG),and histopathological analysis disclosed spindle shaped epithelioid cells harboring Langhans-type multinucleated giant *** month after admission,EOB-MRI signaled the disappearance of the defect at the hepatobiliary phase,of hyperintensity on DWI,of hypointensity on ADC map,and no stain at the early *** That the patient had received BNT162b2 messenger RNA(mRNA)coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination 3 mo before the occurrence of HSEG,and that its disappearance was confirmed 4 mo after mRNA vaccination suggested that the drug-induced sarcoidosis-like reaction(DISR)might be induced by the mRNA ***,rechallenge of drug-induced DISR with the third mRNA vaccination was not confirmed.

BACKGROUND Acral persistent papular mucinosis(APPM)is a rare idiopathic subtype of localized lichen *** date,there have been 40 APPM cases reported worldwide;however,only 7 cases have been reported in the Korean *** SUMMARY A 70-year-old man was referred to our hospital with a solitary pinkish nodule on the dorsum of his right *** the absence of symptoms,the patient wanted to know the exact diagnosis;thus,a biopsy was *** examination of a biopsy specimen obtained from the nodule on the dorsum of his hand revealed orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis with patchy parakeratosis,prominent hypergranulosis,and diffuse dissecting mucinous deposition between collagen bundles,along with some bland-looking spindle cells throughout the *** nodule was histologically diagnosed as an APPM,and an intralesional triamcinolone injection(2.5 mg/mL)was started every 2 *** three sessions of treatment,the patient showed marked *** To the best of our knowledge,this is the first case of a Korean APPM presenting as a solitary nodule that showed a marked response to triamcinolone intralesional *** it is a rare disease,we report this case to contribute to future research on the pathogenesis and treatment of APPM.

Optimal laboratory testing protocol for patients with acne taking oral isotretinoin

BACKGROUND Isotretinoin is a widely prescribed drug for various dermatological conditions,especially *** tests are routinely performed to monitor its side ***,the optimal testing schedule remains *** To evaluate the laboratory monitoring tests and schedules of patients with acne taking isotretinoin to determine the most efficient testing *** We retrospectively reviewed electronic medical records from the Dermatology Department of Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital from 2005 to 2020 for patients prescribed isotretinoin for acne who underwent monthly blood *** Aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),and trigly-ceride(TG)levels significantly changed between 5 and 6 mo when the total prescription period and dose variables were considered *** high-density lipoprotein level also significantly changed between 5 and 6 ***,low-density lipoprotein(LDL)and total cholesterol levels significantly changed between 1 and 2 *** We recommend testing AST,ALT,and TG levels once every 5 to 6 *** also suggest testing LDL and total cholesterol levels during the first and second months.
