Aim:To examine the effects of ginseng saponins on the heterologously expressedhuman ether-a-go-go related gene（HERG）that encodes the rapid component ofthe delayed rectifier K+***:A two-electrode voltage clamp tech-nique was *** currents were recorded in Xenopus oocytes injected withHERG ***:Crude saponins of Korean red ginseng（GS）induced aminimal increase of the maximal HERG conductance without changes in the volt-age-dependent HERG current activation and inactivation ***,however,decelerated HERG current deactivation in a concentration-dependent manner,which was more noticeable with panaxitriol（PT）than panaxidiol（PD）.Consistently,ginseng saponins increased the HERG deactivation time constants with the orderof potency of Rg1（a maj or component of PT）>Rf1>Rb1（a major component of PD）.Re had little effect on HERG *** a cardiac action potential,GSincreased the outward HERG ***:Ginseng saponins enhanceHERG currents,which could be in part a possible mechanism of the shorteningcardiac action potential of ginseng saponins.

International guidelines for post-cardiac arrest care recommend using multi-modal strategies to avoid the withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy(WLST)in patients with the potential for neurological recovery.[1]However,a clear methodology for multi-modal approaches has yet to be ***-specific enolase(NSE)is currently the only recommended biomarker,and the European Resuscitation Council(ERC)and the European SocietyofIntensiveCareMedicine(ESICM)have proposed a cutoff value of 60μg/L at 48 and/or 72 h after the return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC)as a multimodal prognostic tool for predicting poor neurological outcomes.

BACKGROUND Currently,there is no standard adjuvant therapy for patients with resected ampulla of Vater(AoV)*** To evaluate the effectiveness of adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy(CCRT)in patients with advanced AoV cancer who underwent curative *** This single-centered,retrospective study included 29 patients with advanced AoV cancer who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy between 2006 and *** impact of CCRT on advanced AoV cancer was *** The 1-,3-,and 5-yr recurrence-free survival(RFS)rates for patients with advanced AoV cancer were 82.8%,48.3%,and 40.8%,respectively,and the overall survival(OS)rates were 89.7%,62.1%,and 51.7%,***-cular invasion was found to be a significant risk factor for RFS and OS in patients with advanced AoV cancer in the univariate analysis,whereas T stage and lymph node metastasis were significantly associated with OS in the multivariate *** to the patients who did not receive adjuvant CCRT,those who received adjuvant CCRT did not show statistically significant improvements in the RFS and OS,although they had a significantly lower average age and significantly higher platelet-to-lymphocyte *** Adjuvant CCRT did not improve survival outcomes in patients with advanced AoV *** findings contribute to existing knowledge on the effectiveness of CCRT in this patient population and provide important insights for clinical decision-making.

The bounds for the eigenvalues of the stiffness matrices in the finite element discretization corresponding to Lu := - u' with zero boundary conditions by quadratic hierarchical basis are shown explicitly. The condition number of the resulting system behaves like O(1/h) where h is the mesh size. We also analyze a main diagonal preconditioner of the stiffness matrix which reduces the condition number of the preconditioned system to O(1).

We develop and analyze a first-order system least-squares spectral method for the second-order elhptic boundary value problem with variable coefficients. We first analyze the Chebyshev weighted norm least-squares functional defined by the sum of the Lw^2- and Hw^-1- norm of the residual equations and then we eplace the negative norm by the discrete negative norm and analyze the discrete Chebyshev weighted least-squares method. The spectral convergence is derived for the proposed method. We also present various numerical experiments. The Legendre weighted least-squares method can be easily developed by following this paper.

A semi-empirical interatomic potential formalism,the second-nearest-neighbor modified embedded-atom method(2NN MEAM),has been applied to obtaining interatomic potentials for the Co-W and Al-W binary system using previously developed MEAM potentials of Co,Al and *** potential parameters were determined by fitting the experimental data on the enthalpy of formation,lattice parameter,melting point and elastic *** present potentials generally reproduce the fundamental physical properties of the Co-W and Al-W systems *** lattice parameters,the enthalpy of formation,the thermal stability and the elastic constants match well with experiment and the first-principles *** enthalpy of mixing and the enthalpy of formation and mixing of liquid are in good agreement with CALPHAD *** potentials can be easily combined with already-developed MEAM potentials for binary cobalt systems and can be used to describe Co-Al-W-based multicomponent alloys,especially for interfacial properties.

Quality of Service Improvement with Optimal Software-Defined Networking Controller and Control Plane Clustering

The controller is indispensable in software-defined networking(SDN).With several features,controllers monitor the network and respond promptly to dynamic *** performance affects the quality-of-service(QoS)in *** controller supports a set of ***,the support of the features may be more prominent in one ***,a single controller leads to performance,single-point-of-failure(SPOF),and scalability *** overcome this,a controller with an optimum feature set must be available for ***,a cluster of optimum feature set controllers will overcome an SPOF and improve the QoS in ***,leveraging an analytical network process(ANP),we rank SDN controllers regarding their supporting features and create a hierarchical control plane based cluster(HCPC)of the highly ranked controller computed using the ANP,evaluating their performance for the OS3E *** results demonstrated in Mininet reveal that a HCPC environment with an optimum controller achieves an improved ***,the experimental results validated in Mininet show that our proposed approach surpasses the existing distributed controller clustering(DCC)schemes in terms of several performance metrics i.e.,delay,jitter,throughput,load balancing,scalability and CPU(central processing unit)utilization.

Comparison of soil bacterial diversity and community composition between clear-cut logging and control sites in a temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest in Mt. Sambong, South Korea

Deforestation or clear-cut logging affects forest ecosystems,including soil microbial *** purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of clearcut logging on the soil bacterial community in a temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest on ***,South *** investigated the physicochemical characteristics and bacterial diversity of the soil in clear-cut logging and control *** available phosphorus(AP)level in soil was significantly lower in the clear-cut sites than in the control;however,the other physicochemical properties of soil were similar at the two *** examining the bacterial 16S rRNA gene using next-generation sequencing,we found that the number of bacterial taxa at the species and phylum level were similar at the control and clear-cut *** with the high resilience of bacterial communities and absence of change in the soil physicochemical properties—with the exception of AP—we found similar levels of bacterial diversity at the two *** most taxa showed similar composition ratios at the control and the clear-cut sites,some taxa such as Deltaproteobacteria,Ktedonobacteriales,Myxocccales,Polyangiaceae,Pedosphaera_f,and Solibacter showed differences after clear-cut *** conclude that AP was significantly associated with those bacterial taxa that showed differences in their composition ratios following clear-cut logging.
