A conceptual framework for the specification and verification of constraints on the content and narrative structure of documents is proposed. As a specification formalism, CTLDL is defined, which is an extension of the temporal logic CTL by description logic concepts. In contrast to existing solutions this approach allows for the integration of ontologies to achieve interoperability and abstraction from implementation aspects of documents. This makes CTLDL specifically suitable for the integration of heterogeneous and distributed information resources in the semantic web.

The development of new robot structures, in particular of parallel kinematic machines（PkM）, is widely systematized by different structure synthesis methods. Recent research increasingly focuses on PkM with less than six degrees of freedom（DOF）. However, an overall comparison and evaluation of these structures is missing. In order to compare symmetrical PkM with three translational DOF, different evaluation criteria are used. Workspace, maximum actuation forces and velocities, power, actuator stiffness, accuracy and transmission behavior are taken into account to investigate strengths and weaknesses of the PkMs. A selection scheme based on possible configurations of translational PkM including different frame configurations is presented. Moreover, an optimization method based on a genetic algorithm is described to determine the geometric parameters of the selected PkM for an exemplary load case and a prescribed workspace. The values of the mentioned criteria are determined for all considered PkM with respect to certain boundary conditions. The distribution and spreading of these values within the prescribed workspace is presented by using box plots for each criterion. Thereby, the performance characteristics of the different structures can be compared directly. The results show that there is no ＂best＂ PkM. Further inquiries such as dynamic or stiffness analysis are necessary to extend the comparison and to finally select a PkM.

Objective To investigate the expression of the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and GM-CSF/IL-3/IL-5 receptor common beta chain (βc receptor) in an adult patient with idiopathic pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP), so as to demonstrate the possible association of the GM-CSF and βc receptor with the pathogenesis of human *** The GM-CSF levels were measured with a commercial ELISA kit (sensitivity 5?pg/ml) and the βc receptor expression on the cell surface was detected by flow cytometry analysis. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis was employed to detect the expression of the GM-CSF mRNA and the βc receptor mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and alveolar macrophages. The entire coding regions of the GM-CSF cDNA and the βc receptor cDNA were sequenced by the Sanger dideoxy-mediated chain termination method to detect possible *** The patient with PAP failed to release the GM-CSF protein either from circulating mononuclear cells or from alveolar macrophages. The expression of the GM-CSF mRNA was normal after the stimulation of lipopolysaccharide, whereas a point mutation at position 382 of the GM-CSF cDNA from 'T' to 'C' was revealed by cDNA sequencing, which caused a change in amino acid 117 of the protein from isoleucine to threonine. The βc receptor expression on the cell surface was normal, and the βc receptor mRNA expression and the sequence of the entire coding region of the βc receptor were also *** The decreased GM-CSF production is associated with the pathogenesis of human PAP. A point mutation of the GM-CSF cDNA may contribute to the decreased GM-CSF production in our adult PAP patient. The mutation of the βc receptor in some of paediatric patients with PAP may not be a common problem in adult patients.

During a joint Chinese-German expedition through West Sichuan and the eastern half of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, in the summer of 1992, geological and geomorphological field observations proved that there did not exist a Pleistocene inland ice. This was corroborated by several TL-data and by the analysis of quartz-grain surfaces by means of the scanning electron microscope. Just like during the 1989 expedition more than 1 250 year-old living juniper trees were found at about 4600 m a.s.l. to the northwest of Qamdo, which helps to understand the climate history of the last 1 500 a there. Dendrochronological investigations on lateral and end-moraines prove that in the area the recent glacier advances happened between 1 820 and 1 860 A.D.

In cases of death caused by hypothermia,histological analysis can be used to determine the cause of *** histological alterations of the pituitary glands in hypothermia have been reported in the literature,including haemorrhage,hyperaemia and cellular vacuolization of cells in the anterior *** the present study,the validity of these morphological alterations as markers for fatal accidental hypothermia was investigated in autopsy material.A total of 34 pituitary glands in cases of verified fatal accidental hypothermia were examined histologically(haematoxylin and eosin,ferric,azan)and immunohistochemically(LCA,ACTH,C5b-9).The findings were compared with 61 cases in a control *** was found in 50.0%of the study group cases and 59.0% of the control group *** vacuolization was observed in one case(2.9%)in the study group and one case(1.6%)in the control *** or recent haemorrhage in the glandular tissue was never *** our study,the histopathological characteristics described in the literature as pathognomonic for hypothermia could not be ***,histological differences in the pituitary glands between fatal hypothermia cases and control group cases were not observed.

Artificial intelligence for closed-loop ventilation therapy with hemodynamic control using the open lung concept

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to develop an automatic control system for mechanical ventilation therapy based on the open lung concept(OLC)using artificial *** addition,mean arterial blood pressure(MAP)is stabilized by means of a decoupling controller with automated noradrenaline(NA)dosage to ensure adequate systemic perfusion during ventilation therapy for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS).Design/methodology/approach–The aim is to develop an automatic control system for mechanical ventilation therapy based on the OLC using artificial *** addition,MAP is stabilized by means of a decoupling controller with automated NA dosage to ensure adequate systemic perfusion during ventilation therapy for patients with ***–Thisinnovativeclosed-loop mechanicalventilation system leadsto a significant improvement in oxygenation,regulates end-tidal carbon dioxide for appropriate gas exchange and stabilizes MAP to guarantee proper systemic perfusion during the ventilation *** limitations/implications–Currently,this automatic ventilation system based on the OLC can only be applied in animal trials;for clinical use,such a system generally requires a mechanical ventilator and sensors with medical approval for *** implications–For implementation of a closed-loop ventilation system,reliable signals from the sensors are a prerequisite for successful ***/value–Theexperiment with porcine dynamics demonstrates thefeasibility and usefulness of this automatic closed-loop ventilation therapy,with hemodynamic control for severe ***,this pilot study validated a new algorithm for implementation of the OLC,whereby all control objectives are fulfilled during the ventilation therapy with adequate hemodynamic control of patients with ARDS.

Characterization of pavement texture by means of height difference correlation and relation to wet skid resistance

Driving safety is of utmost importance in the automobile industry and is acknowledged by the introduction of the tire wet grip index as part of the EU tire label. The rubber pavement interaction is determined by the viscoelastic properties of the rubber as well as by the pavement texture. Nowadays available optical surface profiling instruments allow for a detailed measurement of surface roughness covering several length scales. This enables the validation of a mathematical statistical description of pavement texture within the framework of self-affine surfaces and hence provides a holistic characterization of surface roughness covering several length scales within a few characteristic parameters. We deduce within this article the correlation between classical surface roughness pa- rameters and the parameter set of self-affine surfaces. These parameters allow for a detailed understanding of the relationship between pavement texture and its wet skid resistance. We present wet skid resistance measurements with the British pendulum and a linear friction tester device on different pavement textures. We demonstrate that the so- called estimated texture depth does not correlate to the surface skid resistance measured with the British pendulum. Finally, we deduce a dependency of wet skid resistance on pavement texture which is supported by current models for hysteresis friction.
