Health diagnosis of ultrahigh arch dam performance using heterogeneous spatial panel vector model

Currently,more than ten ultrahigh arch dams have been constructed or are being constructed in China.Safety control is essential to long-term operation of these dams.This study employed the flexibility coefficient and plastic complementary energy norm to assess the structural safety of arch dams.A comprehensive analysis was conducted,focusing on differences among conventional methods in characterizing the structural behavior of the Xiaowan arch dam in China.Subsequently,the spatiotemporal characteristics of the measured performance of the Xiaowan dam were explored,including periodicity,convergence,and time-effect characteristics.These findings revealed the governing mechanism of main factors.Furthermore,a heterogeneous spatial panel vector model was developed,considering both common factors and specific factors affecting the safety and performance of arch dams.This model aims to comprehensively illustrate spatial heterogeneity between the entire structure and local regions,introducing a specific effect quantity to characterize local deformation differences.Ultimately,the proposed model was applied to the Xiaowan arch dam,accurately quantifying the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of dam performance.Additionally,the spatiotemporal distri-bution characteristics of environmental load effects on different parts of the dam were reasonably interpreted.Validation of the model prediction enhances its credibility,leading to the formulation of health diagnosis criteria for future long-term operation of the Xiaowan dam.The findings not only enhance the predictive ability and timely control of ultrahigh arch dams'performance but also provide a crucial basis for assessing the effectiveness of engineering treatment measures.

Dissolved organic matter(DOM)can be removed or transformed by photochemical and biological processes,producing the negative effect of transforming organic carbon into inorganic carbon,which plays a vital role in the karst carbon cycle.However,acid mine drainage(AMD)will affect this process,so the degradation of DOM in karst river water(KRW)needs to be studied in this context.In this study,to reveal the evolution processes of DOM under photochemical and biological conditions in AMD-impacted KRW,AMD and KRW were mixed in different ratios under conditions of visible light irradiation(VL),biodegradation(BD),ultraviolet irradiation(UV)and ultraviolet irradiation+biodegradation(UV+BD).The average DOC concentrations in samples after mixing AMD and KRW in different proportions decreased significantly(by 23%)in UV+BD,which was 1.2–1.4 times higher than under the other conditions and would lead to a significant release of inorganic carbon.Further analysis of the fluorescence parameters via parallel factor analysis(PARAFAC)revealed that the DOM fluorescence components in AMD comprised mainly protein-like substances derived from autochthonous components,while the DOM fluorescence components in KRW were mainly humic-like substances with both autochthonous and allochthonous sources.Therefore,AMD could promote both the photochemical and biological degradation of DOM in karst receiving streams,resulting in the conversion of DOC to inorganic carbon.The results showed that the synergistic effects of UV+BD and AMD accelerated the degradation of DOM and the release of inorganic carbon in KRW,thus affecting the stability of the karst carbon cycle.

Background:Primary biliary cholangitis(PBC)patients often have concomitant extrahepatic autoimmune(EHA)diseases including Sjögren’s syndrome(SS),systemic sclerosis(SSc),rheumatoid arthritis(RA),and autoimmune thyroid disease.The present study aimed to describe the prevalence of EHA diseases in PBC and explore the impact of EHA diseases on the long-term outcomes of PBC in Chinese patients.Methods:Medical records of PBC patients diagnosed in our institute were retrospectively reviewed.Pa-tients were followed up by a standardized telephone interview.The endpoints were defined as liver-related death and/or liver transplantation.Results:Totally 247 of the 985(25.1%)PBC patients enrolled in the study had at least one concomi-tant EHA disease.Sjögren’s syndrome(n=140,14.2%)was the most frequent one,followed by rheuma-toid arthritis(RA)(n=56,5.7%)and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis(n=45,4.6%).Patients with EHA dis-eases were more common in females(Perall,no differences were found between PBC patients with and without EHA dis-eases in terms of biochemical response rates to ursodeoxycholic acid,the incidence of hepatic events,or transplant-free survival.RA and EHA≥2 were protective factors for hepatic events in univariate Cox analysis,but the results became insignificant in multivariate analysis.Conclusions:Concomitant EHA diseases were common in PBC patients but did not compromise the long-term outcomes of PBC.

BACKGROUND Multiple primary malignant tumors(MPMTs)are rare type of cancer,especially when solid tumors are the first and lymphoma is the second primary malignancy.We report a patient with heterochronous MPMTs consisting of prostate cancer and rectal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL).CASE SUMMARY We report a 77-year-old male patient diagnosed with prostate cancer who was treated with radiation therapy and one year of endocrine therapy with bicalutamide(50 mg per day)and an extended-release implant of goserelin(1/28 d).Seven years later,rectal DLBCL with lung metastases was found.CONCLUSION Although rare,the possibility of prostate cancer combined with a double primary cancer of DLBCL can provide a deeper understanding.

CO_(2) electroreduction to formic acid/formate would contribute to alleviating the energy and climate crisis.This work reports a Bi-based catalyst derived from the in-situ electroreduction of Bi_(2)O_(2)CO_(3) modified with iodine and pyrenyl-graphdiyne(PGDY)on the surface for efficient electroreduction of CO_(2) in acidic electrolyte,with a high partial current density of 98.71 mA·cm^(-2) and high Faradaic efficiency(FE)>90%over the potential range from^(-1).2 to-1.5 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE),as well as the long-term operational stability over 240 h without degradation in H-type cell.Experimental results and density function theory calculations show that the synergistic effect of surface iodine and PGDY is responsible for this active and extremely stable process of CO_(2) electroreduction via lowering the energy barriers for formation of*OCHO intermediate,suppressing the competitive Her by enhancing the concentration of both K+and CO_(2) at reaction interface,as well as preventing the dissolution and re-deposition of active Bi atoms on surface during catalytic reaction.This work provides new insight into designing highly active and stable electrocatalysts for CO_(2) reduction.

Brain functional impairment after stroke is common;however,the molecular mechanisms of post-stroke recovery remain unclear.It is well-recognized that age is the most important independent predictor of poor outcomes after stroke as older patients show poorer functional outcomes following stroke.Mounting evidence suggests that axonal regeneration and angiogenesis,the major forms of brain plasticity responsible for post-stroke recovery,diminished with advanced age.Previous studies suggest that Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate(Rac)1 enhances stroke recovery as activation of Rac1 improved behavior recovery in a young mice stroke model.Here,we investigated the role of Rac1 signaling in long-term functional recovery and brain plasticity in an aged(male,18 to 22 months old C57BL/6J)brain after ischemic stroke.We found that as mice aged,Rac1 expression declined in the brain.Delayed overexpression of Rac1,using lentivirus encoding Rac1 injected day 1 after ischemic stroke,promoted cognitive(assessed using novel object recognition test)and sensorimotor(assessed using adhesive removal tests)recovery on days 14–28.This was accompanied by the increase of neurite and proliferative endothelial cells in the periinfarct zone assessed by immunostaining.In a reverse approach,pharmacological inhibition of Rac1 by intraperitoneal injection of Rac1 inhibitor NSC23766 for 14 successive days after ischemic stroke worsened the outcome with the reduction of neurite and proliferative endothelial cells.Furthermore,Rac1 inhibition reduced the activation of p21-activated kinase 1,the protein level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor,and increased the protein level of glial fibrillary acidic protein in the ischemic brain on day 28 after stroke.Our work provided insight into the mechanisms behind the diminished plasticity after cerebral ischemia in aged brains and identified Rac1 as a potential therapeutic target for improving functional recovery in the older adults after stroke.

BACKGROUND Propofol and sevoflurane are commonly used anesthetic agents for maintenance anesthesia during radical resection of gastric cancer.However,there is a debate concerning their differential effects on cognitive function,anxiety,and depression in patients undergoing this procedure.AIM To compare the effects of propofol and sevoflurane anesthesia on postoperative cognitive function,anxiety,depression,and organ function in patients undergoing radical resection of gastric cancer.METHODS A total of 80 patients were involved in this research.The subjects were divided into two groups:Propofol group and sevoflurane group.The evaluation scale for cognitive function was the Loewenstein occupational therapy cognitive assessment(LOTCA),and anxiety and depression were assessed with the aid of the self-rating anxiety scale(SAS)and self-rating depression scale(SDS).Hemodynamic indicators,oxidative stress levels,and pulmonary function were also measured.RESULTS The LOTCA score at 1 d after surgery was significantly lower in the propofol group than in the sevoflurane group.Additionally,the SAS and SDS scores of the sevoflurane group were significantly lower than those of the propofol group.The sevoflurane group showed greater stability in heart rate as well as the mean arterial pressure compared to the propofol group.Moreover,the sevoflurane group displayed better pulmonary function and less lung injury than the propofol group.CONCLUSION Both propofol and sevoflurane could be utilized as maintenance anesthesia during radical resection of gastric cancer.Propofol anesthesia has a minimal effect on patients'pulmonary function,consequently enhancing their postoperative recovery.Sevoflurane anesthesia causes less impairment on patients'cognitive function and mitigates negative emotions,leading to an improved postoperative mental state.Therefore,the selection of anesthetic agents should be based on the individual patient's specific circumstances.

Attention-Enhanced Voice Portrait Model Using Generative Adversarial Network

Voice portrait technology has explored and established the relationship between speakers’ voices and their facialfeatures, aiming to generate corresponding facial characteristics by providing the voice of an unknown speaker.Due to its powerful advantages in image generation, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have now beenwidely applied across various fields. The existing Voice2Face methods for voice portraits are primarily based onGANs trained on voice-face paired datasets. However, voice portrait models solely constructed on GANs facelimitations in image generation quality and struggle to maintain facial similarity. Additionally, the training processis relatively unstable, thereby affecting the overall generative performance of the model. To overcome the abovechallenges,wepropose a novel deepGenerativeAdversarialNetworkmodel for audio-visual synthesis, namedAVPGAN(Attention-enhanced Voice Portrait Model using Generative Adversarial Network). This model is based ona convolutional attention mechanism and is capable of generating corresponding facial images from the voice ofan unknown speaker. Firstly, to address the issue of training instability, we integrate convolutional neural networkswith deep GANs. In the network architecture, we apply spectral normalization to constrain the variation of thediscriminator, preventing issues such as mode collapse. Secondly, to enhance the model’s ability to extract relevantfeatures between the two modalities, we propose a voice portrait model based on convolutional attention. Thismodel learns the mapping relationship between voice and facial features in a common space from both channeland spatial dimensions independently. Thirdly, to enhance the quality of generated faces, we have incorporated adegradation removal module and utilized pretrained facial GANs as facial priors to repair and enhance the clarityof the generated facial images. Experimental results demonstrate that our AVP-GAN achieved a cosine similarity of0.511, outperforming the performance of our comparison mo
