This study examines the relationship between geomagnetic indices and mortality rates from specific diseases in the Northeast (NE) and Southern (S) regions of Brazil from 1996 to 2020. Solar activity data, including the Ap and Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance (SID) indices, were sourced from the World Data Center, while mortality data were obtained from the Mortality Information System (SIM-DATASUS). Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) emerged as the leading cause of mortality, with average death rates of 60.4, 56.8, and 58.3 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in Pernambuco (PE), Rio Grande do Sul (RS), and Paraná (PR), respectively. Temporal analysis revealed a consistent upward trend in AMI mortality across most states, except for Santa Catarina (SC). Seasonal patterns identified through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) demonstrated that geomagnetic and climatic indices influenced mortality differently across regions and seasons. The Ap geomagnetic index was strongly correlated with higher AMI mortality rates during summer, while the SID index showed greater relevance during winter. A dipole phenomenon was observed, with AMI deaths increasing alongside geomagnetic activity in the S region but showing an inverse relationship in the NE region. These findings highlight the significant influence of geomagnetic variations on public health, particularly cardiovascular mortality. The study underscores the need for further research into the biological mechanisms underlying these associations and recommends the development of early warning systems and targeted preventive measures to mitigate the potential health impacts of geomagnetic disturbances, especially for vulnerable populations.

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of the agricultural crops with the greatest potentialfor vegetable oil production in Brazil. However, a disease of unknown etiology popularlyknown as Fatal Yellowin (FY) has caused damage to Brazilian farmers particularly in theeastern region of the Amazon. So, the objective of this study was to evaluate the spatialdependence of FY on three oil palm genotypes, grown for many years in an organic produc-tion system in the Amazon region. The study area had 4104 ha, divided into 139 plots. Ineach plot, the monthly incidence of disease was monitored forming a database. The num-ber of diseased plants per year, number of accumulated diseased plants, number of dis-eased plants per hectare, growth rate of diseased plants and incidence of accumulateddisease were evaluated. The results indicated spatial distribution of the variables adjustedto the gaussian, spherical and exponential models, with predominance of the first *** increases the purpose that FY is caused by biotic factors. The highest range achievedin the study was 2929 m indicating the susceptibility of the tested genotypes. Some plotsclose to the river had the highest incidence of the disease on the study, probably associatedwith higher soil moisture.

Several tasks related to geographical information retrieval and to the geographical information sciences involve toponym matching,that is,the problem of matching place names that share a common *** this article,we present the results of a wide-ranging evaluation on the performance of different string similarity metrics over the toponym matching *** also report on experiments involving the usage of supervised machine learning for combining multiple similarity metrics,which has the natural advantage of avoiding the manual tuning of similarity *** with a very large dataset show that the performance differences for the individual similarity metrics are relatively small,and that carefully tuning the similarity threshold is important for achieving good *** methods based on supervised machine learning,particularly when considering ensembles of decision trees,can achieve good results on this task,significantly outperforming the individual similarity metrics.

This work aimed to study and compare the effect of the incorporation of agro-industrial by-products(chestnut shell,grapeseed,and pomegranate peel)into yoghurts to fortify them while assessing their potential to replace synthetic *** each by-product,phenolic extracts were obtained and *** extracts demonstrated antioxidant and antibacterial properties,and the capacity to inhibitα-*** shell extract stood out regarding antioxidant capacity,displaying values of 1128 and 972 mgT_(rolox•gextract)^(-1),for the assays with DPPH and ABTS,*** yoghurts were produced(negative control,positive control with 0.1%of sorbic acid,two for each extract with 0.1%and 0.2%of extract,a mixture of extracts and a mixture of extracts with sorbic acid),and stored at 4℃.The incorporation of the extracts into the yoghurts maintained their physical-chemical properties and microbiological *** samples inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus *** analysis proved that higher concentrations of extract had similar results to synthetic *** results showed the viability to fortify yoghurts with the incorporation of by-product extracts,developing a value-added ***,revealed the possibility of these extracts replacing synthetic preservatives and antioxidants.

Aims Understanding succession in tropical forest is an important aspect of vegetation science,but to date,successional processes in sea-sonally dry tropical forests(SDtFs)have received much less atten-tion than evergreen humid tropical *** aim to fill this knowledge *** We investigated vegetation succession in SDtF areas consisting of three different successional stages(early,intermediate,late),and a SDtF-savanna ecotone in the municipal district of Juramento,north of Minas Gerais State,*** twelve 400 m2 plots in each area,we compared vegetation parameters and structural variables(absolute density and basal area)and examined the floristic composition of the tree component to find gradients of *** Findings We found evidence of species turnover along a successional gradi-ent,with the intermediate stage showing the highest species rich-ness and *** was accompanied with a significant increase in the number of tree individuals and basal area from the early to intermediate successional ***,the intermediate and late SDtF successional stages were more similar in structure and *** ecotone was the most species rich and was similar to the intermediate SDtF and early successional stage in species richness and floristic composition *** results will have implications for guiding SDtF management and recovery programs.
