Is it possible to adopt the same oncological approach in urgent surgery for colon cancer?

BAcKGROUND Locoregional complications may occur in up to 30%of patients with colon *** they are frequent events in the natural history of this disease,there should be a concern in offering an oncologically adequate surgical treatment to these *** To compare the oncological radicality of surgery for colon cancer between urgent and elective *** One-hundred and eighty-nine consecutive patients with non-metastatic colon adenocarcinoma were studied over two years in a single institution,who underwent surgical resection as the first therapeutic approach,with 123 elective and 66 urgent *** assessment of oncological radicality was performed by analyzing the extension of the longitudinal margins of resection,the number of resected lymph nodes,and the percentage of surgeries with 12 or more resected lymph *** clinicopathological variables were compared between the two groups in terms of sex,age,tumor location,type of urgency,surgical access,staging,compromised lymph nodes rate,differentiation grade,angiolymphatic and perineural invasion,and early *** There was no difference between the elective and urgency group concerning the longitudinal margin of resection(average of 6.1 in elective vs 7.3 cm in urgency,P=0.144),number of resected lymph nodes(average of 17.7 in elective vs 16.6 in urgency,P=0.355)and percentage of surgeries with 12 or more resected lymph nodes(75.6%in elective vs 77.3%in urgency,P=0.798).It was observed that the percentage of patients aged 80 and over was higher in the urgency group(13.0%in elective vs 25.8%in urgency,P=0.028),and the early mortality was 4.9%in elective vs 15.2%in urgency(P=0.016,OR:3.48,95%cI:1.21–10.06).Tumor location(P=0.004),surgery performed(P=0.016)and surgical access(Pce in other clinicopathological variables *** Oncological radicality of colon cancer surgery may be achieved in both emergency and

We survey contemporary studies of hadrons and strongly interacting quarks using QcD's Dyson-Schwinger equations, addressing the following aspects: confinement and dynamical chiral symmetry breaking; the hadron spectrum; hadron elastic and transition form factors, from small-to large-Q2; parton distribution functions; the physics of hadrons containing one or more heavy quarks; and properties of the quark gluon plasma.

Thermal Stability of Retained Austenite in TRIP Steel After Different Treatments

Thermal decomposition of retained austenite in TRIP steel was investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry（DSc）.The decomposition curve was abnormal,and the decomposition temperature and the activation energy were measured by the Kissinger method,which were all higher than those in quenched *** thermal decomposition data of samples soaked in liquid nitrogen after TRIP treatment were all similar to those without additional low temperature *** indicated that there is a high thermal stability in retained austenite of the TRIP steel at low temperature,which was also proved by XRD analysis.

Fitting and evaluation of height-diameter models for Alnus japonica in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines

The study was conducted to develop height-diameter at breast height(HT-DBH) models for Alnus japonica in La Trinidad, Benguet,Philippines and evaluate their predictive *** six widely used nonlinear growth models that were selected in this study were the chapmanRichards, Schnute, Modified logistic, Korf/Lundqvist,Weibull and Exponential. A total of 208 Alnus japonica trees were measured using standard diameter tape for DBH(1.3 m above the ground) and Vertex and transponder was used for the total height measurement. The performance of the developed models were evaluated using the fit statistics including coefficient of determination(R^2), root mean square error(RMSE), mean bias(ē), absolute mean difference(AMD), and Akaike Information criterion(AIc). The lack-of-fit statistics was also performed for further evaluation of the performance of the *** on the evaluation criteria, all six models were able to determine the DBH-height relationships and fitted the data well. Using the rank analysis, the Weibull HT-DBH model had the best performance among the six commonly used nonlinear growth models. The results of this study will help forest managers especially in La Trinidad, Benguet to easily predict the total height using the Weibull model for Alnus japonica utilizing the DBH as the predicting variable.

Two basic motivations for an upgraded JLab facility are the needs： to determine the essential nature of light-quark confinement and dynamical chiral symmetry breaking （DcSB）; and to understand nucleon structure and spectroscopy in terms of QcD＇s elementary degrees of freedom. During the next ten years a programme of experiment and theory will be conducted that can address these questions. We present a Dyson- Schwinger equation perspective on this effort with numerous illustrations, amongst them： an interpretation of string^breaking; a symmetry-preserving truncation for mesons; the nucleon＇s strangeness σ-term; and the neutron＇s charge distribution.

It is today widely acknowledged that nerve repair is now more than a matter of perfect microsurgical reconstruction only and that, to further improve clinical outcome, the involvement of different scientific disciplines is required. This evolving reconstructive/regenerative approach is based on the interdisciplinary and integrated pillars of tissue engineering such as reconstructive microsurgery, transplantation and biomaterials. In this paper, some of the most promising innovations for the tissue engineering of nerves, emerging from basic science investigation, are critically overviewed with special focus on those approaches that appear today to be more suitable for clinical translation.

Powering a Low Power Wireless Sensor in a Harsh Industrial Environment: Energy Recovery with a Thermoelectric Generator and Storage on Supercapacitors

Wireless sensor networks are widely used for monitoring in remote areas. They mainly consist of wireless sensor nodes, which are usually powered by batteries with limited capacity, but are expected to last for long periods of time. To overcome these limitations and achieve perpetual autonomy, an energy harvesting technique using a thermoelectric generator (TEG) coupled with storage on supercapacitors is proposed. The originality of the work lies in the presentation of a maintenance-free, robust, and tested solution, well adapted to a harsh industrial context with a permanent temperature gradient. The harvesting part, which is attached to the hot spot in a few seconds using magnets, can withstand temperatures of 200°c. The storage unit, which contains the electronics and supercapacitors, operates at temperatures of up to 80°c. More specifically, this article describes the final design of a 3.3 V 60 mA battery-free power supply. An analysis of the thermal potential and the electrical power that can be recovered is presented, followed by the design of the main electronic stages: energy recovery using a BQ25504, storage on supercapacitors and finally shaping the output voltage with a boost (TPS610995) followed by an LDO (TPS71533).
