severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sARs-CoV-2)infection has affected the entire world,causing the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic since it was first discovered in Wuhan,China in December *** the clinical presentation of the disease,in addition to fever,fatigue,cough,dyspnea,diarrhea,nausea,vomiting,and abdominal pain,infected patients may also experience neurological and psychiatric repercussions during the course of the disease and as a post-COVID-19 ***,headache,dizziness,olfactory and gustatory dysfunction,cerebrovascular disorders,neuromuscular abnormalities,anxiety,depression,and post-traumatic stress disorder can occur both from the infection itself and from social distancing and *** to current evidence about this infection,the virus has the ability to infect the central nervous system(CNs)via angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)receptors on host *** studies have shown the presence of ACE2 in nerve cells and nasal mucosa,as well as transmembrane serine protease 2,key points for interaction with the viral spike glycoprotein and entry into the CNs,being olfactory tract and blood-brain barrier,through hematogenous dissemination,potential ***,the presence of sARs-CoV-2 in the CNs supports the development of neuropsychiatric *** management of these manifestations seems more complex,given that the dense parenchyma and impermeability of brain tissue,despite protecting the brain from the infectious process,may hinder virus ***,some alternatives used in non-COVID-19 situations may lead to worse prognosis of acute respiratory syndrome,requiring ***,the aim of this review is to bring more current points related to this infection in the CNs,as well as the repercussions of the isolation involved by the pandemic and to present perspectives on interventions in this scenario.

Healthcare waste has now been increasingly studied in terms of the risks or dangers that can cause the environment and human health. Waste generated in clinical analysis laboratories (CALs) deserves attention, because, due to the advent of the concept of emergent pollution, it is doubtful if the materials or reagents are disposed in the sewage by CALs, which are currently considered non-contaminated or with low risk potential, under current legislation, may actually impact the environment with actions not yet understood. This study was experimental and conducted at the Environmental Laboratory of the University of the Region of Joinville. It was used Euglena gracilis (primary trophic level) algae exposed to effluents from five sectors of a CAL: Biochemistry, Hematology, Viral Load, Tuberculosis and Immunochemistry. samples were collected from the siphons attached to the wash sinks of the CAL materials. To verify changes in algae that denote environmental danger, behavioral changes were analyzed via NGTOX, and chlorophyll concentration was calculated by chlorophyll extraction according to Mendel’s method. Viral Load (VL) and Hematology (HT) sectors were the ones that most affected algae (Tukey test). In both sectors, there was inhibition of algae mobility and gravitaxy: in VL, due to the presence of chaotropic agents that denature organic structures;and in HT, due to the change in membrane permeability attributed to methylene blue. Also in HT, there was a search for algae adaptation by increasing the rise to the surface in order to overcome the lower luminosity due to the coloration of the environment, which also affects photosynthesis. Regarding the concentration of a-chlorophyll, the VL and HT were the most affected as well, being the first one the one that had more concentration reduction because of the presence of chaotropic agents. stroke has been considered as one of the main causes of death and of motor and cognitive sequels. Especially, many patients with upper limb hemiparesis improved their motor action and showed meaningful cortical changes after treatment with constraint-induced movement therapy. Therefore, this review aims to verify the literature about neuroimaging and behavioral evidences in the cortical reorganization through the use of the constraint-induced movement therapy. so, we conducted the literature research in indexed journals from many databases like Pubmed, Medline, Cochrane database, Lilacs and scielo. We concluded that the behavioral and neuroimaging studies using traditional and modified constraint-induced movement therapy promote cortical reorganization.

Assessment of vascular invasion in gastric cancer: A comparative study

AIM: To evaluate and compare detection of lymphatic and blood vessel invasion (LVI and BVI) by hematox-ylin-eosin (HE) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) in gastric cancer specimens, and to correlate with lymph node status. METHODs: IHC using D2-40 (a lymphatic endothelial marker) and CD34 (a pan-endothelial marker) was performed to study LVI and BVI in surgical specimens froma consecutive series of 95 primary gastric cancer cases. The results of the IHC study were compared with the detection by HE using McNemar test and kappa index. The morphologic features of the tumors and the presence of LVI and BVI were related to the presence of lymph node metastasis. A χ2 test was performed to obtain associations between LVI and BVI and other prognostic factors for gastric cancer. REsULTs: The detection rate of LVI was considerably higher than that of BVI. The IHC study identified eight false-positive cases and 13 false-negative cases for LVI, and 24 false-positive cases and 10 false-negative cases for BVI. The average Kappa value determined was moderate for LVI (k=0.50) and low for BVI (k=0.20). Both LVI and BVI were statistically associated with the presence of lymph node metastasis (HE: P=0.001, P=0.013, and IHC: P=0.001, P=0.019). The mor-phologic features associated with LVI were location of the tumor in the distal third of the stomach (P=0.039), Borrmann's macroscopic type (P=0.001), organ inva-sion (P=0.03) and the depth of tumor invasion (P=0.001). The presence of BVI was related only to the depth of tumor invasion (P=0.003). CONCLUsION: The immunohistochemical identification of lymphatic and blood vessels is useful for increasing the accuracy of the diagnosis of vessel invasion and for predicting lymph node metastasis.

Recent research has demonstrated that critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)show significant immune system *** to that,some nutrients that influence immunomodulation have been suggested as a form of treatment against the *** review collected the information on the impact of vitamins on the prognosis of COVID-19,with the intention of facilitating treatment and prevention of the disease risk status in *** collected information was obtained using the PubMed electronic database by searching for articles that relate COVID-19 and the mechanisms/effects of the nutrients:Proteins,glucose,lipids,vitamin B12,vitamin D,calcium,iron,copper,zinc,and magnesium,including prospective,retrospective,and support *** findings reveal an optimal response related mainly to omega-3,eicosapentaenoic acid,docosahexaenoic acid,calcium,and iron that might represent benefits in the treatment of critically ill ***,nutrient supplementation should be done with caution due to the limited availability of randomized controlled studies.

Late diagnosis and TCD8 immune response profile of cutaneous tuberculosis: A case report

Introduction: Cutaneous tuberculosis (CTB) is a rare form of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis that, when associated with late diagnosis, worsen the quality of life of the sick individuals. This report presents a case of late diagnosis of CTB. Unusual clinical manifestations retarded the correct tuberculosis diagnosis for more than a year. The immune response elicited by this type of tuberculosis as well as the factors that might contribute to the delay in diagnosis was evaluated and discussed. Methodology: Clinical evaluation and flow cytometric analyses of PBMC were realized for a case of CTB and a healthy individual as a control. Results: M. tuberculosis specific TCD8+ cell response was analyzed by flow cytometry and revealed positive cells for IL-17, IL-10, TGF-β and IDO. The CTB patient presented higher percentage of those cells when compared to a healthy donor. However, TCD8 cells positive for the important protective cytokine, IFN-γ was decreased in the CTB patient. Conclusion. The assessment of the M. tuberculosis specific TCD8+ immune response showed a regulatory/modulatory phenotype with a reduced IFN-γ response when compared to the healthy control that could have contributed to the CTB infection.

Gestational mellitus diabetes (GDM) is a highly prevalent metabolic disorder among pregnant women nowadays. It is defined as any level of glucose intolerance, appearing or first being recognized during pregnancy. It is essential to diagnose and treat GDM early, in order to reduce or avoid complications for mother and fetus. Recently, new guidelines have changed the diagnosis criteria, and it is expected that the prevalence of GDM will increase by approximately 18%. A relevant goal of these new definitions is to provide a better care for pregnant women, in an attempt to reduce fetal and maternal complications. These new criteria will also increase the impact on costs of the health care system. Treatment must be individualized for best results, including a specific diet, physical activity and the use of medications. Metformin and Insulin use are analyzed in detail, in face of new evidences regarding their safety and efficacy during pregnancy.

The Benefits of sGLT2 Inhibitors in Cardiovascular Prevention, Glycemic Control and Weight Loss, in the Treatment of Diabetes

The sodium and glucose co-transporter inhibitors type 2 (sGLT2) comprises a new class of hypoglycemic drugs to control type 2 diabetes mellitus, in an attempt to add new non-existing benefits to the so far arising classes. Regarding this new class of drugs, represented by dapaglifozin, canaglifozin and empaglifozin, it is important to highlight the benefits brought by these medications to combat hyperglycemia with insulin-independent mechanisms that are beyond glucose reduction, such as cardiovascular events prevention, reduction in HbA1c, weight loss and blood pressure lowering. Recently, a relevant study (Empa-Reg) brought hope and set the spotlight on the prevention of cardiac events among diabetic patients, which is the main cause of mortality within this group. However, despite coming out as a good treatment option, sGLT2 inhibitors are under constant clinical research and, as a new drug, it should be carefully carried out regarding the long-term effects of glycosuria and other possible side effects, such as the observed increase in the incidence of bladder, breast cancer and bone fractures, which require further studies. Therefore, these compounds might represent a landmark approach for the treatment of diabetes.
