melt Extrusion of Environmentally Friendly Poly(L-lactic acid)/sodium metabisulfite Films for Antimicrobial Packaging Applications

Food packaging materials compounded with antimicrobial additives can substantially diminish the incidence of foodborne ***,poly(L-lactic acid)(PLA)films containing sodium metabisulfite(Nam)were produced by melt extrusion as an attempt to develop a new biodegradable material with antimicrobial properties for *** cycle assessment(LCA)simulations revealed that the environmental footprints of the PLA film did not change upon Nam addition,and that Nam is more eco-friendly than silver *** PLA/Nam films with Nam content varying from 0.5 to 5.0 wt.%were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DsC),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and optical and mechanical properties *** optical properties were sustained after the addition of Nam,but high Nam contents degraded the light transparence of the PLA matrix at some *** thermal stability and tensile properties of the PLA film decreased proportionally to the Nam content,while no changes were observed on Tg,Tm and Xc,as determined by *** diffusion tests revealed that the PLA/Nam films had no antimicrobial activity on saccharomyces cerevisiae at 35°C,which was related to the limited migration of Nam from the glassy PLA *** biodegradable PLA films compounded with Nam through melt extrusion display adequate optical,thermal,and mechanical properties to cover most food packaging applications,representing an essential step toward the development of eco-friendly packaging materials that can potentially exhibit an antimicrobially active surface.

目的哮喘-慢性阻塞性肺疾病肺重叠症(Asthma-chronie obst ructive pulmonary disease overlap,A-CO)患者的生活质量较低,肺功能较差,病情经常加重。由于暴露于污染环境会加重其症状,增加发病率和病死率,环境管理对其至关重要。旨在通过系统性综述,寻找证据,以指导制订护理干预措施,促进ACO患者对空气质量的自我管理。方法2023年3月 ,系统检索CINAHL、medline、Academie search Complete .scopus、Webofscience、Cochrane图书馆、乔安娜布里格斯研究所(JoannaBriggsInstitute,JBI)循证实践数据库,以及Googlescholar。对纳人研究进行数据提取和综合,并对护理干预措施进行分类。采用JBI研究质量评估工具进行方法学质量评估。结果共纳入5篇来自不同国家的研究。促进ACO患者自我监控空气质量的干预措施包括:警觉性干预措施(医务人员定期巡诊、进行症状评估),监测干预措施(监测室内外诱发因素) ,教育干预措施(空气质量警报、避免接触过敏原),以及相关政策的影响,如无烟政策和改善空气质量的综合战略。尽管这些研究报告了不同的干预措施,方法质量也存在差异,但这些干预措施显示了预防患者病情恶化、尽量减少急诊就诊和住院治疗的潜力。这些关键点可作为护理干预措施的关键组成部分。结论有必要采取全面措施,让护士参与促进患者自我监控空气质量的多学科团队.提高认识、制订和实施护理干预,从而使ACO患者受益。同时,需要进--步开展研究,以扩大证据基础并完善这些干预措施。

Bats are the second-most diverse group of mammals in the world,and bat flies are their main ***,significant knowledge gaps remain regarding these antagonistic interactions,especially since diverse factors such as seasonality and host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by comparing species richness and composition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and modularity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and adult host *** captured bats and collected their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sampling sites in the savannahs of Amapástate,northeastern region of the Brazilian *** female bats being more parasitized and recording greater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled network could be divided into 15 compartments with 54 links,and all subnetworks comprised>12 *** total number of links ranged from 27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectively),and female and male subnetworks had 44 and 41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled network and for all *** results revealed higher bat fly species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas specialization and modularity were higher in the dry ***,the subnetwork for female bats displayed higher specialization and modularity than the male ***,both seasonality and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fly network *** studies should consider these factors when evaluating bat–bat fly interaction networks.

The Use of secondary Grape Biomass in Beef Cattle Nutrition on Carcass Characteristics, Quality and shelf Life of meat

We determined whether the inclusion of 100 g/kg dry matter of grape pomace silage (GPs) and grape pomace bran (GPB) as substitutes for other traditional fiber sources in the diet of steers (Charolais x Nellore) would improve carcass characteristics, meat quality and composition, and shelf life. Twenty-four animals (248 ± 19.32 kg of initial body weight) were fed a high concentrate diet for 121 days. Carcass characteristics were measured, and the longissimus dorsi muscle was analyzed for fatty acid (FA) profile and composition. The meat was sliced and stored in air-permeable packages for 10 days. On each sampling day (d 1, 3, 7, and 10), oxidative stability, bacterial load, lipid and protein oxidation, and staining were analyzed. The experimental diets influenced the pH of cold carcasses only. The GPs group had a higher pH than the control. The GPs and GPB groups showed improved oxidant status (i.e., lower lipid peroxidation and concentrations of reactive oxygen species were in the meat of both groups than in control). On the first day of storage, the antioxidant enzyme glutathione s-transferase activity was more significant in the meat of the GPs and GPB groups than in the control. The bacterial loads in the meat were attenuated by GPs inclusion;there were lower total coliform counts and a trend toward lower counts for enterobacteria in the control group. The diets altered the FA profile of the meat;i.e., the GPB diet allowed for a more significant amount of the n-6 omegas in the meat, while the GPs diet showed a tendency for a more significant amount of n-6 and 9 omegas. Both diets (GPs and GPB) increased the amounts of long-chain FAs. The GPs diet decreased saturated FA levels. We conclude that the dietary treatments GPs and GPB are a promising alternative to maintain meat quality standards throughout in real-world retail conditions. Hydroelectrolytic and Energetic Replenisher in Horses Undergoing marcha Training

The study aimed to assess the clinical, laboratory, and blood gas analysis of horses undergoing marcha training and the effects of voluntary ingestion of hydroelectrolytic and energy replenishers after exercise. Eight horses of both genders aged between 5 and 10 years, were included in the study. The exercise consisted of a 10-min warm-up followed by 45 min uninterrupted marcha on a flat dirt track in the morning. After exercise, the horses received one of the following treatments: Drinking water (control group);Hydroelectrolytic and energy replenisher containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium acetate, magnesium chloride, sodium citrate, dextrose, maltodextrin, and sucrose in three different concentrations (Replenishers A, B, and C). The horses were distributed across the four treatments in a 4 × 4 Latin squares design using a split-plot system with 48-hr intervals. Clinical and laboratory evaluations were conducted at four time points: T0 - 5 min before exercise;T1 - up to 5 min after exercise;T2 - 2 hr after starting treatment;and T4 - 4 hr after beginning treatment. Concentrations of urea, creatinine, lactate, phosphorus, and ionized calcium significantly changed after exercise. An increase in blood pH and a decrease in chloride concentrations were observed when replenishers B and C were offered after exercise. The replacements were ingested spontaneously by the animals in a volume greater than that of the control group (water). Replacement B was the most ingested by the animals, demonstrating its greatest potential.

synthesis of the Prospective Anticancer molecule Perillic Acid from Orange Essential Oil by the Yeast <i>Yarrowia lipolytica</i>

The bioconversion of the hydrophobic and volatile limonene to perillic acid, a potential anticancer agent, by the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica was studied in two steps. Firstly, experimental design was used for process optimization using high-purity limonene as substrate and secondly orange essential oil containing 89.1% limonene was used as substrate under the previously optimized conditions. Limonene concentration and pH were identified by fractional factorial design as significant factors and were optimized by central composite design. Under optimized process conditions (0.16% (v/v) limonene;pH 6.9), the 24 h biotransformation process resulted in the accumulation of 0.368 g·L-1 of perillic acid corresponding to a molar yield of 23.1%. A subsequent substrate addition under the same reaction conditions doubled perillic acid concentration to 0.793 g·L-1 and a molar yield of 24.2%. The use of orange essential oil under the optimized reaction conditions increased both perillic acid accumulation and yield to 0.872 g·L-1 and 29.7%, respectively. The robustness of Y. lipolytica allowed the efficient biotransformation of a crude by-product of the citrus industry into a valuable fine chemical.
