Fifty Years of Water Sensitive Urban Design, Salisbury, South Australia

Australia has developed extensive policies and guidelines for the management of its water. The City of Salisbury, located within metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia, developed rapidly through urbanisation from the 1970s. Water sensitive urban design principles were adopted to maximise the use of the increased rim-off generated by urbanisation and ameliorate flood risk. Managed aquifer recharge was introduced for storing remediated low-salinity stormwater by aquifer storage and recovery （ASR） in a brackish aquiter for subsequent lrngatlon. Ibis paper outlines now a municipal government has progressively adopted principles of Water Sensitive Urban Design during its development within a framework of evolving national water policies. Salisbury＇s success with stormwater harvesting led to the formation of a pioneering w aterbusiness that includes linking projects from nine sites to provide a non-potable supply of 5 ×10^6 m^3 year. These installations hosted a number of applied research projects addressing well configuration, water quality, reliability and economics and facilitated the evaluation of its system as a potential potable water source. The evaluation showed that while untreated stonnwater contained contaminants, subsurface storage and end-use controls were sufficient to make recovered water sale for public open space irrigation, and with chlorination acceptable lbr third pipe supplies. Drinking water quality could be achieved by adding microfiltration, disinfection with UV and chlorination. The costs that would need to be expended to achieve drinking water safety standards were found to be considerably less than the cost of establishing dual pipe distribution systems. The full cost of supply was determined to be AUD$1.57 m ＂ for non-potable water for pubhc open space lrngatlon much cheaper than mares water, AUD $3.45 m at that time. producing and storing potable water was found to cost AUDS1.96 to $2.24 m .

To fully exploit enormous data generated by intelligent devices in edge computing,edge federated learning(EFL)is envisioned as a promising *** distributed collaborative training in EFL deals with delay and privacy issues compared to traditional centralized model ***,the existence of straggling devices,responding slow to servers,degrades model *** consider data heterogeneity from two aspects:high dimensional data generated at edge devices where the number of features is greater than that of observations and the heterogeneity caused by partial device *** large number of features,computation overhead on the devices increases,causing edge devices to become *** incorporation of partial training results causes gradients to be diverged which further exaggerates when more training is performed to reach local *** this paper,we introduce elastic optimization methods for stragglers due to data heterogeneity in edge federated ***,we define the problem of stragglers in ***,we formulate an optimization problem to be solved at edge *** customize a benchmark algorithm,FedAvg,to obtain a new elastic optimization algorithm(FedEN)which is applied in local training of edge *** mitigates stragglers by having a balance between lasso and ridge penalization thereby generating sparse model updates and enforcing parameters as close as to local *** have evaluated the proposed model on MNIST and CIFAR-10 *** experiments demonstrate that our approach improves run time training performance by achieving average accuracy with less communication *** results confirm the improved performance of our approach over benchmark algorithms.

Designation of a new genus Bathymenes for the deep-sea pontoniine shrimps of the 'periclimenes alcocki species group'(Decapoda,Caridea,palaemonidae),with a checklist of the species assigned to the genus

A new genus of the deep-sea pontoniine shrimps,Bathymenes gen. nov.,is established for the 'periclimenes alcocki species group' of the genus periclimenes Costa,1844. The new genus is distinguished from other genera of the pontoniinae by a combination of characters: the posteriormost dorsal rostral tooth remote from other teeth,situated in the epigastric position,cornea usually reduced,the propodus of second pereiopods covered with fine granules,the dactylus of the major second chela being generally flanged,the ambulatory pereiopods with the dactyli being biunguiculate and telson with more than two pairs of dorsolateral spines. The genus is mainly distributed in the tropical to warm-temperate Indo-West pacific waters at depths greater than 200 m. Fifteen species previously recognized as belonging to the 'p.a lcocki species group' are now placed in Bathymenes gen. nov. A key for their identification and a checklist of congeneric species are provided.

performance enhancement of futuristic airplanes by nature inspired biomimetic fish scale arrays--A design approach

Biomimetics has an immense potential to drive the next generation of technologies forward by propounding competent solutions from *** decades,the nonsmooth topography of most living creatures has been critical to their existence and *** to human-made smooth surfaces,when adapted for fluid flow applications,nonsmooth surfaces can enhance the overall aerodynamic performance by reducing the drag ***,the bioinspired scale structure of fish has been identified as a key biomimetic derivative for improving the aerodynamic efficiency in various cross-domain *** study investigates the aerodynamics of a fish scale array(FSA)NACA 0021 model at a specific Reynolds number(Re)of approximately 2.46×105 that is meant for laminar flow conditions using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)tools and a subsonic wind tunnel facility.A 3D printed biomimetic FSA film is developed and affixed on the NACA 0021 wing profile for the experimental investigation,followed by flow visualization through the smoke tunnel *** proved qualitatively under specific aerodynamic conditions,the creation of velocity streaks has a major role in the drag reduction *** obtain a clear perspective of flow across the overlapping fish scale structures,the results are focused on the central and overlapping regions of the FSA *** experiment has proved the existence of a combined formation of low and high velocity streaks in central and overlapping *** FSA 0021 model showed a maximum drag reduction of 9.57%,which was attributed to the streak formation phenomenon observed in the overlapping FSA configuration.

The effects of Spirulina on anemia and immune function in senior citizens

Numerical modelling of strength and energy release characteristics of pillar-scale coal mass

This study proposes a fault detection algorithm based on the analysis of the theoretical curves which describe the behaviour of an existing grid-connected photovoltaic(GCpV)*** a given set of working conditions,a number of attributes such as voltage ratio(VR)and power ratio(pR)are simulated using virtual instrumentation LabVIEW ***,a third-order polynomial function is used to generate two detection limits(high and low limits)for the VR and pR *** high and low detection limits are compared with real-time long-term data measurements from a 1.1 kWp GCpV system installed at the University of Huddersfield,United ***,samples that lie out of the detecting limits are processed by a fuzzy logic classification system which consists of two inputs(VR and pR)and one output membership *** obtained results show that the fault detection algorithm accurately detects different faults occurring in the pV *** maximum detection accuracy(DA)of the proposed algorithm before considering the fuzzy logic system is equal to 95.27%;however,the fault DA is increased up to a minimum value of 98.8%after considering the fuzzy logic system.

New reference trajectory optimization algorithm for a flight management system inspired in beam search

With the objective of reducing the flight cost and the amount of polluting emissions released in the atmosphere, a new optimization algorithm considering the climb, cruise and descent phases is presented for the reference vertical flight trajectory. The selection of the reference vertical navigation speeds and altitudes was solved as a discrete combinatory problem by means of a graphtree passing through nodes using the beam search optimization technique. To achieve a compromise between the execution time and the algorithm＇s ability to find the global optimal solution, a heuristic methodology introducing a parameter called ‘‘optimism coefficient was used in order to estimate the trajectory＇s flight cost at every node. The optimal trajectory cost obtained with the developed algorithm was compared with the cost of the optimal trajectory provided by a commercial flight management system（FMS）. The global optimal solution was validated against an exhaustive search algorithm（ESA）, other than the proposed algorithm. The developed algorithm takes into account weather effects, step climbs during cruise and air traffic management constraints such as constant altitude segments, constant cruise Mach, and a pre-defined reference lateral navigation route. The aircraft fuel burn was computed using a numerical performance model which was created and validated using flight test experimental data.

Analysis of Bio-inspired Fishbone Based Corrugated Rib for Adaptive Camber Morphing

Bioinspired active camber morphing is an innovative solution for the aerodynamic performance enhancement of flight vehicles such as Micro Aerial Vehicles(MAVs)and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs).In the present article,a bio-inspired Fish Bone Active Camber(FishBAC)corrugated rib design concept with and without a spine for an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)is *** wing model is composed of multiple corrugated ribs and a splitted spar for connecting each *** rib geometry is subjected to static structural analysis using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis(FEA)module under the unit load *** deformation modes are first extracted from the solution of the wind tunnel test and the elastically deformed NACA 4412 profile will be used to perform Fluid-Structure Interaction(FSI)studies as a partly coupled *** corrugated rib with spine design is a stable structure as inspired from nature species that can withstand elastic and inertial *** fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation is performed to compute the coefficient of lift(Cl),coefficient of drag(Cd)at different Angle of Attack(AoA)for a modified NACA 4412 airfoil and the pressure loads acting on the deformed shape is *** Cl obtained for the modified airfoil at lower AoA is about 60–80%higher and the maximum Cl(Clmax)is 62%higher than the baseline *** Cd of modified airfoil is reduced about 20%at the AoAα=3°as compared with the baseline *** proposed corrugated rib structure has been successfully 3D printed with polylactic Acid plus(pLA+)material and the wind tunnel testing is done to validate the Cl,Cd values obtained through CFD simulations and the results are presented.
