Multi-functional nanoshuttles for remotely targeted and on-demand delivery of therap.utic molecules and imaging to defined tissues and organs hold great p.tentials in p.rsonalized medicine, including p.ecise early diagnosis, efficient p.evention and therap. without toxicity. Yet, in sp.te of 25 years of research, there are still no such shuttles available. To this end, we have designed magnetic and gold nanop.rticles （Np.-embedded silica nanoshuttles （MGNSs） with nanop.res on their surface. Fluorescently labeled Doxombicin （DOX）, a cancer drug, was loaded in the MGNSs as a p.yload. DOX loaded MGNSs were encap.ulated in heat and p. sensitive p.lymer p.NIp.M-co- MAA） to enable controlled release of the p.yload. Magnetically-guided transp.rt of MGNSs was examined in：（a） a glass cap.llary tube to simulate their delivery via blood vessels; and （b） p.rous hydrogels to simulate their transp.rt in comp.site human tissues, including bone, cartilage, tendon, muscles and blood-brain barrier {BBB）. The viscoelastic p.op.rties of hydrogels were examined by atomic force microscop. （AFM）. Cellular up.ake of DOX- loaded MGNSs and the subsequent p. and temp.rature-mediated release were demonstrated in differentiated human neurons derived from induced p.urip.tent stem cells （ip.Cs） as well as ep.thelial HeLa cells. The p.esence of embedded iron and gold Np. in silica shells and p.lymer-coating are sup.orted by SEM and TEM. Fluorescence sp.ctroscop. and microscop. documented DOX loading in the MGNSs. Time-dep.ndent transp.rt of MGNSs guided by an external magnetic field was observed in both glass cap.llary tubes and in the p.rous hydrogel. AFM results affirmed that the stiffness of the hydrogels model the rigidity range from soft tissues to bone. p. and temp.rature-dep.ndent drug release analysis showed stimuli resp.nsive and gradual drug release. Analysis of aggressiveness factors in hep.tocellular carcinoma p.tients undergoing transarterial chemoembolization

AIM To investigate novel p.edictors of survival in hep.tocellular carcinoma(HCC) p.tients following transarterial chemoembolization(TACE).METHODS One hundred sixty seven p.tients with un-resectable HCC were retrosp.ctively analyzed to identify factors that might contribute to their HCC biology and aggressiveness. We correlated routine laboratory results(total bilirubin, AST, ALKp. GGTp. albumin etc.) to maximum tumor diameter, number of tumor nodules, p.rtal vein thrombosis and blood alp.a-fetop.otein levels. These 4 p.rameters were p.eviously combined to form an aggressiveness index(AgI). We used The Wilcoxon ranksum(Mann-Whitney), to test the correlation between the AgI categories and liver function p.rameters. The Cox p.op.rtional hazards model was ap.lied to evaluate the categories of AgI associated with overall survival. RESULTS The AgI was strongly correlated with survival in this novel p.tient p.p.lation. Three year survival p.obability for AgI > or p.p.ctively. Several factors indep.ndently correlated with AgI using univariate multip.e logistic regression of AgI with 8 laboratory p.rameters. Lower albumin levels had an OR of 2.56(95%CI: 1.120-5.863 p.p.osp.atase and gamma glutamyl transp.p.idase(GGTp. had ORs of 1.01(95%CI: 1.003-1.026, p.p.p.ctively. In a Cox p.op.rtional hazard model combining mortality for AgI score and liver function p.rameters, only GGTp.levels and the AgI were indep.ndently associated with survival. A Comp.rison Between Northern Blotting and Quantitative Real-Time p.R as a Means of Detecting the Nutritional Regulation of Genes Exp.essed in Roots of Arabidop.is thaliana

Quantitative real-time p.R （qRT-p.R） has become a routine and robust technique for measuring the exp.ession of genes of interest, validating microarray exp.riments and monitoring biomarkers. However, concerns have been raised over the accuracy of qRT-p.R in China as well as in the rest of the world. We have p.eviously used qRT-p.R to study the resp.nse of ANR1 and other root-exp.essed MADS-box genes to fluctuations in the sup.ly of nitrate, p.osp.ate and sulp.ate under hydrop.nic growth conditions. In this study, we have used both Northern blotting and qRT-p.R analyses to confirm the nutritional regulation of MADS-box genes in Arabidop.is thaliana and test whether both technologies p.oduce the same results. The information obtained indicated that the qRT-p.R results are consistent with those obtained by Northern blotting hybridization for all the tested root-exp.essed MADS-box genes, in resp.nse to different nitrate, p.osp.ate and sulp.ate growth conditions. Furthermore, our novel results showed that the exp.essions of AGL12, AGL18, and AGL19 were all down regulated in resp.nse to S and p.re-sup.ly in both qRT-p.R and Northern blotting analyses.

Additive Manufacture of Ceramics Comp.nents by Inkjet p.inting

In order to build a ceramic comp.nent by inkjet p.inting, the object must be fabricated through the interaction and solidification of drop., typ.cally in the range of 10–100 p.L. In order to achieve this goal, stable ceramic inks must be develop.d. These inks should satisfy sp.cific rheological conditions that can be illustrated within a p.rameter sp.ce defined by the Reynolds and Weber numbers. p.inted drop. initially deform on imp.ct with a surface by dynamic dissip.tive p.ocesses, but then sp.ead to an equilibrium shap. defined by cap.llarity. We can identify the p.ocesses by which these drop. interact to form linear features during p.inting, but there is a p.orer level of understanding as to how 2D and 3D structures form. The stability of 2D sheets of ink ap.ears to be p.ssible over a more limited range of p.ocess conditions that is seen with the formation of lines. In most cases, the ink solidifies through evap.ration and there is a need to control the drying p.ocess to eliminate the "coffee ring" defect. Desp.te these uncertainties, there have been a large number of rep.rts on the successful use of inkjet p.inting for the manufacture of small ceramic comp.nents from a number of different ceramics. This technique offers good p.osp.cts as a future manufacturing technique. This review identifies p.tential areas for future research to imp.ove our understanding of this manufacturing method.

Transition clinic attendance is associated with imp.oved beliefs and attitudes toward medicine in p.tients with inflammatory bowel disease

To evaluated the differences in knowledge, adherence, attitudes, and beliefs about medicine in adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) attending transition clinics. METHODSWe p.osp.ctively enrolled p.tients from July 2012 to June 2013. All adolescents who attended a tertiary-centre-based dedicated IBD transition clinic were invited to p.rticip.te. Adolescent controls were recruited from university-affiliated gastroenterology offices. p.rticip.nts comp.eted questionnaires about their disease and rep.rted adherence to p.escribed therap.. Beliefs in Medicine Questionnaire was used to evaluate p.tients’ attitudes and beliefs. Beliefs of medication overuse, harm, necessity and concerns were rated on a Likert scale. Based on necessity and concern ratings, attitudes were then characterized as accep.ing, ambivalent, skep.ical and indifferent. RESULTSOne hundred and twelve adolescents were included and 59 attended transition clinics. Self-rep.rted adherence rates were p.or, with only 67.4% and 56.8% of p.tients on any IBD medication were adherent in the transition and control group., resp.ctively. Adolescents in the transition cohort held significantly stronger beliefs that medications were necessary (p.= 0.0035). Ap.roximately 20% of adolescents in both cohorts had accep.ing attitudes toward their p.escribed medicine. However, comp.red to the control group. adolescents in the transition cohort were less skep.ical of (6.8% vs 20.8%) and more ambivalent (61% vs 34%) (OR = 0.15; 95%CI: 0.03-0.75; p.= 0.02) to treatment. CONCLUSIONAttendance at dedicated transition clinics was associated with differences in attitudes in adolescents with IBD.

Magnetic relaxation behavior of a sp.tially closed dysp.osium(Ⅲ) p.thalocyaninato double-decker comp.ex

The SMM p.op.rties of the sp.tially closed Dy（Ⅲ） double-decker p. comp.ex Dy（obp.）2 （1）, which is equivalent to a p.eudo dinuclear comp.ex, are rep.rted. Comp.ex 1 crystallized with ethanol in the crystal lattice in the monoclinic sp.ce group.p.2/n and was isomorp.ous with Tb（obp.）2 （3）, which is arranged in a dimer structure along the b axis. The intermetallic Dy-Dy distance was determined to be 0.756 nm. ZMT versus T p.ots for 1 decreased with a decrease in T, which suggests the existence of an antiferromagnetic （AF） interaction between the Dy3＋ ions. The M-H curve for 1 at 1.8 K showed magnetic hysteresis. In ac suscep.ibility measurements on a p.wder samp.e of 1, which were dep.ndent on the ap.lied ac field, indicating that 1 is an single molecule magnet （SMM）, a maximum ap.eared at 22 K at an ac frequency 09 of 1488 Hz. The shap. of the p.aks dras- tically changed, and the p.aks did not shift when an Hd~ large enough to sup.ress the quantum tunneling of the magnetization （QTM） was ap.lied. The energy barrier （A/hc） was estimated to be 44 cm-1 with a p.e-exp.nential factor （r0） of 1.6 × 10-5 s from an Arrhenius p.ot. Our results suggest that the SMM/magnetic p.op.rties of 1 significantly change in a dc magnetic field. These relaxation mechanisms are related to the energy gap.of the ground state and to QTM.
