Photodynamic therapy(PDT)of cancer is a two-step drug device combination modality,which involves the topical or systemie administration of a photosensitizer followed by light ilumnination of cancer *** the presence of oxygen molecules,the light illmnination of photosensitizer(PS)can lead to the generation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species(ROS)and consequently destroy *** to many other anticancer therapies,PDT is also subject to intrinsic cancer resistance mediated by mutidrug resistance(mDR)*** paper will review the recent progress in understanding the interaction between mDR transporters and PS *** strategies that can be used in a clinical setting to owercome or bypass mDR will also be discussed.

The Smm properties of the spatially closed Dy(Ⅲ) double-decker Pc complex Dy(obPc)2(1), which is equivalent to a pseudo dinuclear complex, are reported. Complex 1 crystallized with ethanol in the crystal lattice in the monoclinic space group P21/n and was isomorphous with Tb(obPc)2 (3), which is arranged in a dimer structure along the b axis. The intermetallic Dy-Dy distance was determined to be 0.756 nm. χmT versus T plots for 1 decreased with a decrease in T, which suggests the existence of an antiferromagnetic (AF) interaction between the Dy3+ions. The m-H curve for 1 at 1.8 K showed magnetic hysteresis. In ac susceptibility measurements on a powder sample of 1, which were dependent on the applied ac field, indicating that 1 is an single molecule magnet (Smm), a maximum appeared at 22 K at an ac frequency (f) of 1488 Hz. The shape of the peaks drastically changed, and the peaks did not shift when an Hdclarge enough to suppress the quantum tunneling of the magnetization (QTm) was applied. The energy barrier (Δ/ηχ) was estimated to be 44 cm-1with a pre-exponential factor (τt0) of 1.6 × 10-5s from an Arrhenius plot. Our results suggest that the Smm/magnetic properties of 1 significantly change in a dc magnetic field. These relaxation mechanisms are related to the energy gap of the ground state and to QTm.

The 12C+12C fusion reaction is famous because of its complication of molecular resonances,and it plays an important role in both nuclear structural research and astrophysics. It is extremely difficult to measure the cross sections of 12C+12C fusions at energies of astrophysical relevance because of the very low reaction yields. To measure the complicated resonant structure that exists in this important reaction, an efficient thick target method has been developed and applied for the first time at energies Ec.m.meV. A scan of the cross sections over a relatively wide range of energies can be carried out using only a single beam energy. The result of measurement at Ec.m.=4.1 meV is compared with results from previous *** method will be useful for searching for potentially existing resonances of 12C+12C in the energy range 1 meVm.meV.

Development and demonstration of reliable measurement techniques that can detect and help quantify the nature and extent of elemental mercury （Hg（0）） in the subsurface are needed to reduce uncertainties in the decision-making process and increase the effectiveness of remedial actions. We conducted field tests at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA, to determine if sampling and analysis of Hg（0） vapors in the shallow subsurface （〈0.3 m depth） can be used to as an indicator of the location and extent of Hg（0） releases in the subsurface. We constructed a rigid polyvinyl chloride push probe assembly, which was driven into the ground. Soil gas samples were collected through a sealed inner tube of the assembly and were analyzed immediately in the field with a Lumex and/or Jerome Hg（0） analyzer. Time-series sampling showed that Hg vapor concentrations were fairly stable over time, suggesting that the vapor phase Hg（0） was not being depleted and that sampling results were not sensitive to the soil gas purge volume. Hg（0） vapor data collected at over 200 push probe locations at 3 different release sites correlated very well to areas of known Hg（0） contamination. Vertical profiling of Hg（0） vapor concentrations conducted at two locations provided information on the vertical distribution of Hg（0） contamination in the subsurface. We conclude from our studies that soil gas sampling and analysis can be conducted rapidly and inexpensively at large scales to help identify areas contaminated with Hg（0）.

To determine if 30-d of oral spore-based probiotic supplementation could reduce dietary endotoxemia. mETHODSApparently healthy men and women (n = 75) were screened for post-prandial dietary endotoxemia. Subjects whose serum endotoxin concentration increased by at least 5-fold from pre-meal levels at 5-h post-prandial were considered “responders” and were randomized to receive either placebo (rice flour) or a commercial spore-based probiotic supplement [Bacillus indicus (HU36), Bacillus subtilis (HU58), Bacillus coagulans, and Bacillus licheniformis, and Bacillus clausii] for 30-d. The dietary endotoxemia test was repeated at the conclusion of the supplementation period. Dietary endotoxin (LAL) and triglycerides (enzymatic) were measured using an automated chemistry analyzer. Serum disease risk biomarkers were measured using bead-based multiplex assays (Luminex and milliplex) as secondary, exploratory measures. RESULTSData were statistically analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and a P mentation was associated with a 42% reduction in endotoxin (12.9 ± 3.5 vs 6.1 ± 2.6, P = 0.011) and 24% reduction in triglyceride (212 ± 28 vs 138 ± 12, P = 0.004) in the post-prandial period Placebo subjects presented with a 36% increase in endotoxin (10.3 ± 3.4 vs 15.4 ± 4.1, P = 0.011) and 5% decrease in triglycerides (191 ± 24 vs 186 ± 28, P = 0.004) over the same post-prandial period. We also found that spore-based probiotic supplementation was associated with significant post-prandial reductions in IL-12p70 (24.3 ± 2.2 vs 21.5 ± 1.7, P = 0.017) and IL-1β (1.9 ± 0.2 vs 1.6 ± 0.1, P = 0.020). Compared to placebo post supplementation, probiotic subject had less ghrelin (6.8 ± 0.4 vs 8.3 ± 1.1, P = 0.017) compared to placebo subjects. CONCLUSIONThe key findings of the present study is that oral spore-based probiotic supplementation reduced symptoms indicative of “leaky gut syndrome”.

Amoxicillin/clavulanate is associated with liver injury, mostly of a cholestatic pattern. While outcomes are usually benign, progression to cirrhosis and death has been reported. The role of immunosuppressive therapy for patients with a protracted course is unclear. We report the case of an elderly patient who developed prolonged cholestasis secondary to amoxicillin/clavulanate. Vanishing bile duct syndrome was confirmed by sequential liver biopsies. The patient responded to prednisone treatment, but could not be weaned off corticosteroids, even when azathioprine was added. Complete withdrawal of both prednisone and azathioprine was possible by using mycophenolate mofetil, an inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase inhibitor. Sustained remission has been maintained for more than 3 years with low-dose mycophenolate mofetil.
