BACKGROUND Autoimmunity has emerged as a probable disease modifier in patients with clinically diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),that is,patients who have insulin resistance,obesity,and other cardiovascular risk factors,suggesting that the presence of glutamic acid decarboxylase(anti-GAD65),islet antigen 2(anti-IA2),and zinc transporter 8(anti-Zn8T)antibodies could have deleterious effects on beta cell function,causing failure and earlier requirement for insulin *** To evaluate anti-GAD65,anti-IA2 and anti-Zn8T as predictors of early insulin requirement in adolescents with a clinical diagnosis of *** This was a case–control study in patients with clinically diagnosed with T2DM(68 cases and 64 controls with and without early insulin dependence respectively),male and female,aged 12–18 ***,blood pressure,glucose,insulin,C-peptide,glycated hemoglobin A1c,and lipid profiles were *** was used to measure anti-GAD65,anti-IA2,and anti-Zn8T *** statistics,Pearson'sχ2 test,Student's t test,and logistic regression was performed.P<0.05 was considered statistically *** There were 132 patients(53.8%female),with a mean age was 15.9±1.3 years,and there was a disease evolution time of 4.49±0.88 *** presence of anti-GAD65,anti-IA2,and anti-Zn8T positivity was found in 29.5%,18.2%,and 15.9%,*** the groups by early or no insulin dependence showed that the group with insulin had a higher frequency of antibody positivity:anti-GAD65 odds ratio(OR):2.42(1.112–5.303,P=0.026);anti-IA2:OR:1.55(0.859–2.818,P=0.105);and anti-Zn8T:OR:7.32(2.039–26.279,P=0.002).CONCLUSION Anti-GAD65 positivity was high in our ***-GAD65 and anti-Zn8T positivity showed a significantly depleted beta cell reserve phenotype,leading to an increased risk of early insulin dependence.

Pancreatic Pseudocyst Rupture: Cause of Acute Abdomen

Case report of a 23-year-old male patient with a pancreatic pseudocyst, initially was treated by the Interventional Radiology service by placing percutaneous drainage with poor evolution, abruptly presented abdominal pain, Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and peritoneal irritation, so an urgent exploratory laparotomy was performed with a finding of rupture of the pancreatic pseudocyst into the abdominal cavity. He presented septic shock and died in the immediate postoperative period. Computerized Axial Tomography represents the ideal diagnostic method. Spontaneous rupture is extremely rare and requires urgent surgical intervention.

Accurate and reliable predictions of pest species distributions in forest ecosystems are urgently needed by forest managers to develop management plans and monitor new areas of potential ***-only species distribution models are commonly used in these *** maximum entropy algorithm(MaxEnt)has gained popularity for modelling species ***,MaxEnt was used to model the spatial distribution of the Mexican pine bark beetle(Dendroctonus mexicanus)in a daily fashion by using forecast data from the Weather Research and Forecasting *** study aimed to exploit freely available geographic and environmental data and software and thus provide a pathway to overcome the lack of costly data and technical guidance that are a challenge to implementing national monitoring and management strategies in developing *** results showed overall agreement values between 60 and 87%.The results of this research can be used for *** monitoring and management and may aid as a model to monitor similar species.

Unusual reaction of a tungsten alkylidyne complex with ***,characterization,and crystal structures of oxo trimers

The reaction of the alkyl alkylidyne W（CH2CMe3）3（=CSiMe3）（1） with H20 in THF and with D20 in benzene-d6 gave two new trimeric oxo complexes： W3O3（μ=O）3（CH2CMe3）6（THF）3 （2） and [W303（μ=O）3（Ch2CMe3）6（D2O）3] 2benzene-d6 （3.2benzened6）, respectively, each containing two alkyl ligands per W atom. This is in contrast to the dimer W2o（β-O）（CH2CMe3）6, containing three alkyl ligands per W atom, from the previously reported reaction of the alkyl alkylidyne analog W（CH2CMe3）3- （=-CCMe3） with H2O. In the reaction of 1 with D20 in THF, an unstable intermediate W2O2（μ-O）（CD2SiMe3）2（CH2CMe3）4 （4-d4） was identified. Kinetic studies of the reactions of 1 with excess H2O and D2O in THF-ds, yielding 4 and 4-d4, respectively, give a kinetic isotope effect （KIE） of 3.46（3） at 298（1） K, suggesting that the disappearance of 1 is a rate-determining step.

Polarized neutron diffraction and its application to spin density studies

Spin density distributions in molecular compounds containing unpaired electrons have been studied by polarized neutron diffraction (PND). The spin density distributions provide a unique perspective of the magnetic properties of the compounds. The background and fundamentals of polarized neutron diffraction are summarized in this review,followed by examples of applications in inorganic and organic chemistry. Spin densities in several compounds that are obtained by polarized neutron diffraction are highlighted. Spin densities in single molecular magnet [Fe8O2(OH)12(tacn)6]8+ and cyano-bridged K2[Mn(H2O)2]3[Mo(CN)7]2·6H2O demonstrate how to obtain magnetic interaction in the complexes by PND. PND studies of Ru(acac)3,containing one single unpaired electron,show small spin densities in this complex. Finally the use of PND in studying nitronyl nitroxide radicals is given. Our goal in this review is to illustrate how PND functions and how it serves as a sensitive tool in directly probing spin density in molecules.

Plant Growth-Promoting Traits in Rhizobacteria of Heavy Metal-Resistant Plants and Their Effects on Brassica nigra Seed Germination

Phytoremediation is an emerging technology that uses plants and their associated microbes to clean up pollutants from the soil, water, and air. In order to select the plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria （PGPR） for phytoremediation of heavy metal contamination, 60 bacterial strains were isolated from the rhizosphere of two endemic plants, Prosopis laevigata and Spharealcea angustifolia, in a heavy metal-contaminated zone in Mexico. These rhizobacterial strains were characterized for the growth at different pH and salinity, extracellular enzyme production, solubilization of phosphate, heavy metal resistance, and plant growth-promoting （PGP） traits, including production of siderophores and indol-3-acetic acid （IAA）. Overall, the obtained rhizobacteria presented multiple PGP traits. These rhizoba^teria were also resistant to high levels of heavy metals （including As as a metalloid）（up to 480 mmol L-1 As（V）, 24 mmol L-1 Pb（II）, 21 mmol L-1 Cu（II）, and 4.5 mmol L-1 Zn（II））. Seven rhizobacterial strains with the best PGP traits were identified as members of Alcaligenes, Bacillus, Curtobacterium, and Microbacterium, and were selected for further bioassay. The inoculation of Brassica nigra seeds with Microbacteriurn sp. CE3R2, Microbacterium sp. NE1R5, Curtobacterium sp. NM1R1, and Microbacterium sp. NM3E9 facilitated the root development; they significantly improved the B. nigra seed germination and root growth in the presence of heavy metals such as 2.2 mmol L-1 Zn（II）. The rhizobacterial strains isolated in the present study had the potential to be used as efficient bioinoculants in phytorremediation of soils contaminated with multiple heavy metals.

Kinetic and thermodynamic studies on partitioning of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) between aqueous solution and modeled individual soil particle grain sizes

The significance of soil mineral properties and secondary environmental conditions such as pH, temperature, ionic strength and time in the partitioning of eight selected polychlorinated biphenyl(PCB) congeners between aqueous solution and soil particles with different grain sizes was studied. The mineral properties of a model soil sample were determined, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET) adsorption–desorption isotherms were employed to observe the surface characteristics of the individual modeled soil *** adsorption experiments were conducted to determine the sorption of PCBs onto soil particles of different sizes. The results revealed that the sorption of PCB congeners onto the soil was dependent on the amount of soil organic matter, surface area, and pore size distribution of the various individual soil particles. Low pH favored the sorption of PCBs,with maximum sorption occurring between pH 6.5 and 7.5 with an equilibration period of 8 *** in the ionic strength were found to be less significant. Low temperature favored the sorption of PCBs onto the soil compared to high temperatures. Thermodynamic studies showed that the partition coefficient(K_d) decreased with increasing temperature, and negative and low values of ΔH° indicated an exothermic physisorption process. The data generated is critical and will help in further understanding remediation and cleanup strategies for polluted water.

A DEMONSTRATION BUILDING PROJECT:PROMOTING SUSTAINABILITY VALUES

This article explores the relevance of the demonstration project as a strategy for inspir-ing contemporary building practice in a process towards sustainable building and as a tool for influencing environmental values in the *** Log Cabin Project in Napier,New Zealand,is a demonstration facility for displaying sustainable build-ing and living practices situated on the campus of the Eastern Institute of Technology(EIT).The project is the refurbishment of an existing structure designed to showcase the sustainable use of material resources,energy and water conservation,and waste-water *** aim was to investigate the effect visiting a demonstration sustainable building might have on people’s knowledge of and attitude towards sus-tainability issues,and more specifically whether the methods for making a building more sustainable displayed in the building affected how people thought about their own living *** February 2016,five visitor groups,three of EIT students not previously connected with the project,one of EIT staff,and a local environment group were invited to view the project and surveys were conducted both before and after the visit with 126 participants completing both pre-and *** research found improved scores after the visit in six of the seven survey measures of environmental knowledge,motives,and intentions,especially in the case of student visitor *** results also indicated promising increases in envi-ronmental values and concerns for environmental quality after the *** between gender and sustainable action was not significant,however there was sig-nificant correlation between age and actions intended in the future where engagement was higher among young participant ***,although many visitors had previously engaged with at least one pro-environmental activity before visiting the project(90%),42% made at least one change as a result of the *** findings suggest the project wa

40 years of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act （SMCRA）： what have we learned in the State of Wyoming

The Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act （SMCRA） was enacted in 1977 and was the overriding federal regulation governing mining and reclamation of surface coal mines in the United States of America （USA）. Many of the newest surface mines in the USA, at that time, were in the western portion of the nation. Wyoming surface coal mines numbered approximately 20 and were located throughout the state in the coal bearing regions, generally in the south/southwestern portion of the state and the northeastern corner. The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement （OSMRE） is the federal agency tasked with oversight of the implementation of SMCRA. Individual states developed statewide programs that met or exceeded the requirements of SMCRA and, thus, obtained primacy over coal mine mining and reclamation within their boundaries as long as those regulatory conditions were maintained. OSMRE retained oversight on the Indigenous Nations programs within the USA. Much information has been learned on the reclamation side of SMCRA, its regulations and state programs since its passage. This paper and presentation will present some of the basic changes made in reclamation programs over the last 40 years in the State of Wyoming.
