Poppy seeds （Papaver somniferum L.） are often attacked by various fungal dis- eases, and their field germination rate is low. The aim of this experiment was to increase the germination rate and growth of seedlings by modifying the poppy seeds using cold plasma dis- charge. The seeds were treated in a Plasonic AR-550-M under power of 500 W with argon gas flow of 50 mL/min, oxygen gas flow of 50 mL/min for different time durations in seconds （0, 180, 300, 600, 1800, 3000, 4200, and 5400）. The seed germination rate and growth of the seedlings were recorded. Cold plasma positively affected the seed germination rate for time exposure between 180～3000 s. Seedling acceleration on the sixth day of the experiment showed the highest values at exposure 180～600 s. Cold plasma seems to be a good physicochemical way to modify seeds without chemical agronomical application.

In this paper we show that an iterative sequence generated by the Halpern algorithm converges to a fixed point in the case of complete CAT（k） spaces. Similar results for Hadamard manifolds were obtained in [Li, C., L6pez, G., Martfn-Marquez, V.： Iterative algorithms for nonexpansive mappings on Hadamard manifolds. Taiwan Residents J. Math., 14, 541-559 （2010）], but we study a much more general case. Moreover, we discuss the Halpern iteration procedure for set-valued mappings.

Non-thermal plasma(NTP) technology offers wide potential use in the food technology, the same as in the unconventional agriculture. Some seeds, dry fruits, grains and their sprouts gain popularity in the culinary industry as ‘raw seeds'. This review paper draws the current research and trends in NTP pre-treatment of selected seeds/fruits that are useable as ‘raw seeds'. The main applications are connected with activation of seed germination, early growth of seedlings,microbial inactivation of seed/fruit surface, and possibility of increasing quantity of biological active compounds in sprouting seeds. The paper presents a list of plant species that are able to be used as ‘raw seed' including current information about main type of NTP treatment implemented.

AIM: Mechanisms responsible for persistence of HCV infection and liver damage in chronic hepatitis C are not clear. Apoptosis is an important form of host immune response against viral infections. Anti-apoptotic protein bcl-2 expression on liver tissue as well as the influence of interferon alpha 2b (IFNa2b) and ribavirin (RBV) were analyzed in patients with chronic hepatitis C. METHODS: In 30 patients with chronic hepatitis C (responders - R and non-responders - NR) treated with IFNα2b+RBV, protein bcl-2 was determined in hepatocytes and in liver associated lymphocytes before and after the treatment. RESULTS: The treatment diminished bcl-2 protein accumulation in liver cells in_patients with hepatitis C (Per the therapy, we detected bcl-2 protein in R in 87±15% and 83±20% of hepatocytes and in 28±18% and 26±10% of liver-associated lymphocytes, respectively. In NR, the values before treatment decreased from 94±32% to 88±21% of hepatocytes and 39±29% to 28±12% of lymphocytes with bcl-2 expression. There was no statistical correlation between bcl-2 expression on liver tissue with inflammatory activity, fibrosis and biochemical parameters before and after the treatment. CONCLUSION: IFNα2b+RBV treatment, by bcl-2 protein expression decrease, enables apoptosis of hepatocytes and associated liver lymphocytes, which in turn eliminate hepatitis C viruses.

AIM: To analyze the protein expression essential for apoptosis in liver steatosis. METHODS: The expression of proapoptotic proteins p53, Bax, and antiapoptotic Bcl-2 in hepatocytes with steatosis (SH) and without steatosis (NSH) was evaluated in 84 patients at various stages of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). RESULTS: Immunohistochemical staining of liver tissue showed the activation of p53 protein in SH and NSH with increased liver steatosis, diminished Bcl-2 and slightly decreased Bax protein. Positive correlation was found between the stage of liver steatosis with p53 expression in SH (r = 0.54, P er with the advancement of liver steatosis, especially in non-steatosed hepatocytes (r =0.43, P < 001). CONCLUSION: Apoptosis is one of the most important mechanisms leading to hepatocyte elimination in NAFLD. The intensification of inflammation in NAFLD induces proapoptotic protein p53 with the inhibition of antiapoptotic Bcl-2.

Low-pressure discharge is applied for stimulation of germination of two seed lots of Lamb＇s Quarters （Chenopodium album agg.） with different starting germinations （17%, 8%） and in different stages of dormancy. Different exposition durations with cold plasma treatment were applied. The variable of the ratio cumulative germination was calculated. The Richards＇ equation was used for curve-fitting and simulation of the growth curves. Population parameters, namely Vi - viability, Me - time, Qu - dispersion, and Sk - skewness, counted from the curves described the germination rate well. Significant differences among Qu confirmed the erratic dormancy and gradual germination of Lamb＇s Quarters. No difference in the Me parameter was found between two tested seed lots, and no interspecies characteristics were changed using low-pressure discharge. The results suggested that plasma treatment changed seed germination in Lamb＇s Quarters seeds.

Biostimulators combined with pesticides can reduce the need for chemical crop protection to yield healthy wheat with high grain quality and nutritional *** goal of this four-year field study was an assessment of the effects of seven levels of sulfonylurea herbicide,morpholine and triazole fungicides,and humic biostimulator protection on concentrations of 20 amino acids(AAs)and on yield parameters under diverse climatic *** of pesticides and biostimulators reduced amino acid *** applied alone reduced AAs ***(herbicide+fungicide)protection or its combination with humic biostimulator were the most effective strategies for increasing yield,thousand-kernel weight,spike number,grain surface area,and wet *** dosages of fungicides showed effects on AA content and crop parameter values similar to those of the recommended dosages of fungicides and are in line with the European Commission’s “From Farm to Fork”*** biostimulators as agents supporting pesticide protection should be optimized for wheat growth stage to achieve the most desirable wheat parameters and implemented in agricultural practice.

Expression of β2-integrin on leukocytes in liver cirrhosis

AIM： To analyze β2-integrin expression on blood leukocytes in liver drrhosis.METHODS： In 40 patients with liver cirrhosis and 20 healthy individuals, the evaluation of expression of CD11a （LFA-1α）, CD11b （Mac-1α）, CD11c （αX） and CD49d （VLA-4α） on peripheral blood leukocytes was performed using flow cytometry. The analysis was carried out in groups of patients divided into B and C according to Child-Pugh＇s classification. RESULTS： An increased CDlla, CD11b, CD11c and CD49d integrin expression was observed on peripheral blood leukocytes in liver cirrhosis. The integrin levels were elevated as the advancement of liver failure progressed. The highest expression of integrins occurred predominantly on monocytes. A slight expression of VLA-4 was found on lymphocytes and granulocytes and it increased together with liver failure. A positive correlation was noted between median intensity of fluorescence （MIF） expression on polymorphonuclear cells of CD11a and CD11c and CD49d （r = 0.42, P 〈 0.01; r = 053, P 〈 0.01, respectively） in liver cirrhosis stage C. However, no correlation was observed between integrin expression on leukocytes. The concentrations of sICAM-1, sVCAM-1, and TNFα, were significantly elevated in liver cirrhosis. CONCLUSION： β2-integrin expression on leukocytes increases in liver cirrhosis decornpensated as the stage of liver failure increases, which is a result of permanent activation of leukooytes circulating through the inflamed liver environment.β2-integrin expression on circulating leukocytes can intensify liver cirrhosis,
