Resolved hyperfine structure and narrow inhomogeneously broadened lines in the optical spectra of a rare-earth-doped crystal are favorable for the implementation of various ***,a well-resolved hyperfine structure in the photoluminescence spectra of LiYF4:Ho single crystals and the anticrossings of hyperfine levels in a magnetic field are demonstrated using a self-made setup based on a Bruker 125HR high-resolution Fourier *** is the first observation of the resolved hyperfine structure and anticrossing hyperfine levels in the luminescence spectra of a *** narrowest spectral linewidth is only 0.0022 *** fact together with a large value of the magnetic g factor of several crystal-field states creates prerequisites for developing magnetic field sensors,which can be in demand in modern quantum information technology devices operating at low *** small random lattice strains characterizing the quality of a crystal can be detected using anticrossing points.

The aqueous solutions are evaluated as sustainable reactive extraction solvents for the recovery of monohydroxyl alcohols （benzyl alcohol, 1-hexanol, cyclohexanol） present in few-percent concentrations in apolar hydrocarbons （toluene, n-hexane, and cyclohexane） by considering two approaches. An aqueous solution containing a reactive extractant, like borate salts, borate complexes, a monosalt of dicarboxylic acid, hydroxypropyl-cyclodextrins, and silver nitrate, shows limited potential to be used. Another approach, in which the alcohol is chemically modified prior to the extraction into an easy-extractable form, in this case a monoester/carboxylic acid, shows much more potential. An environmentally benign aqueous solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate can provide a distribution ratio of benzyl alcohol up to 200, leaving the solubility of the organic solvent in the aqueous solution unchanged relative to pure water and therefore increasing the selectivity with two orders of magnitude. The modification of aromatic, cyclo-aliphatic, and linear aliphatic alcohols can be performed efficiently in the apolar organic solvent without need for a catalyst. The recovery of the modified alcohol can be performed by back-extraction in combination with a spontaneous hydrolysis.

meso-substituted cationic 3-and 4-N-Pyridylporphyrins and their Zn(II)derivatives for antibacterial photodynamic therapy

Patents [1-3] are proposed for consideration, as their introduction will allow to control continuously the active weight of a column of melting materials in the upper half of the shaft （Kw）, the thickness of a blanket of kish in the lower part of the shaft and the bosh, and height and radius of inactive materials in the hearth. Through controlling a blast furnace operation "from above" and "from below", it is possible to conduct the process in an intensive mode for high-productivity work （Кw = 0.50-0.60）, in a economy-mode of specific fuel consumption （Кw = 0.60-0.70） or in conditions where Кw = 0.50, promoting formation of kish with maximum thickness, for prolongation of the campaign of the furnace. Testing of the Automatic Operation System using information on active burden weight was conducted on the blast furnace with the storage capacity of 2000m3 at Cherepovets metallurgical plant.

Photodynamic inactivation of microorganisms known as antibacterial photodynamic therapy(APDT)is one of the most promising and innovative approaches for the destruction of pathogenic *** the photosensitizers(PSs),compounds based on cationic porphyrins/metalloporphyrins are most successfully used to inactivate *** of meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins and metalloporphyrins with various peripheral groups in the third and fourth positions of the pyrrole ring have been synthesized in *** aim of this work was to determine and test the most e®ective cationic porphyrins and metalloporphyrins with high photoactivity against Gram negative and Gram positive *** was shown that the synthesized cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins exhibit a high degree of phototoxicity towards both types of bacteria,including the methicillinresistant *** *** complexes of porphyrins are more phototoxic than metal-free porphyrin *** e®ectiveness of these Zn–metalloporphyrins on bacteria is consistent with the level of singlet oxygen *** was found that the high antibacterial activity of the studied cationic porphyrins/metalloporphyrins depends on four factors:the presence in the porphyrin macrocycle of a positive charge(+4),a central metal atom(Zn2þÞand hydrophobic peripheral functional groups as well as high values of quantum yields of singlet *** results indicate that meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins cannd wider application in photoinactivation of bacteria than anionic or neutral PSs usually used in APDT.

We report on the crystal-field(CF)levels of Nd^3+in Nd3CrGe3Be2O14,a representative of recently synthesized Be-containing *** are the first in the family to contain two magnetic subsystems,1 D chromium and Kagome-like rare-earth ***-resolution broad-band temperature-dependent spectra allow us to find all five CF Kramers doublets of the ground 4I9/2 CF multiplet and 38 levels of the excited 4I11/2,13/2,15/2,4F3/2,4F5/2+2H9/2,4F7/2+4S3/2 and 4F9/2 CF *** data form a basis for a future exploration of this interesting two-sublattice magnet with frustrated *** transitions between Kramers doublets of Nd^3+indicate magnetic activity of 1D-chromium chains at T<20 K.

Background:There is a growing interest to understand the neurobiological mechanisms that drive the positive associations of physical activity and fitness with measures of cognitive *** better understand those mechanisms,several studies have employed eye-based measures(e.g., eye movement measures such as saccades,pupillary measures such as pupil dilation,and vascular measures such as retinal vessel diameter)deemed to be proxies for specific neurobiological ***,there is currently no systematic review providing a comprehensive overview of these studies in the field of exercise-cognition ***,this review aimed to address that gap in the ***:To identify eligible studies,we searched 5 electronic databases on October 23,*** researchers independently extracted data and assessed the risk of bias using a modified version of the Tool for the assEssment of Study qualiTy and reporting in EXercise(TESTEX scale,for interventional studies) and the critical appraisal tool from the Joanna Briggs Institute(for cross-sectional studies).Results:Our systematic review(n=35 studies) offers the following main findings:(a) there is insufficient evidence available to draw solid conclusions concerning gaze-fixation-based measures;(b) the evidence that pupillometric measures,which are a proxy for the noradrenergic system,can explain the positive effect of acute exercise and cardiorespiratory fitness on cognitive performance is mixed;(c) physical training-or fitness-related changes of the cerebrovascular system(operationalized via changes in retinal vasculature) are,in general,positively associated with cognitive performance improvements;(d) acute and chronic physical exercises show a positive effect based on an oculomotor-based measure function(operationalized via antisaccade tasks);and(e) the positive association between cardiorespiratory fitness and cognitive performance is partly mediated by the dopaminergic system(operationalized via spo

The glutathione-S-transferase genes mainly the GSTm1 and GSTT1 alleles are responsible for the synthesis of detoxication enzymes that can remove toxic substances. The objective of this study is to seek changes in the genetic polymorphism of glutathione-S-transferase GSTm1 and GSTT1 in motorcycle drivers exposed to BTEX. Our study group consists of 60 motorcycle drivers including 30 professional and 30 non-professional. Blood samples were preleveled from the study population in the EDTA tubes and DNA was extracted by the phenol/chloroform method. The PCR technique was used to determine the presence or absence of genes. Our results showed that the percentage of GSTm1 null genotype has a statistically significant difference (P = 0.02), while the percentage of GSTT1 null genotype was non-significant (P = 0.76) between the two groups. The percentage of deletion of both genes is higher in professional than non-professional motorcycle drivers. Air pollution in Cotonou by BTEX seems to influence the deletion of the GSTm1 and GSTT1 genes at a higher percentage among professional than non-professional motorcycle drivers.

Concessions and technical assistance, described in this article, are historical examples of private-public partnership, which appeared in the industrial era. Even in homogeneous economic, political and legal systems, the business and state co-operation does not always reach harmony and consensus. Here, the researchers observe more complicated, contradictory and sometimes tense relations between the Soviet state institutions and the Western, particularly American companies, who participated in economic modernization of post-revolutionary Russia, initiated by its leadership. After termination of the New Economic Policy ( NEP) (Dziewanowski, 1989, pp. 129-137, 155), and taking foreign concessions back to the state by the beginning of 1930s, the Soviet Union was preparing to become, in a few years, a high-rank industrial power. Giant American steel-making mills, automobile and tractor factories, assembling lines, oil-extracting, and oil-cracking installations, etc. attracted Soviet political leaders, "red directors" and engineers as the best examples to follow up. They were going to accomplish their plans by means of wide technological transfer: ordering and purchasing factory designs, patents and know-how, training Russian workers and technicians both abroad and at the Soviet constructions sites by placing them under supervision of contracted foreign specialists. However, the adoption of machinery and technologies without due organization and chains of supply diminished and distorted expected results.

A VSC-based model for Power Flow Assessment of multi-terminal VSC-HVDC Transmission Systems

This paper puts forward a new practical voltage source converter(VSC)based AC-DC converter model suitable for conducting power flow assessment of multi-terminal VSCbased high-voltage direct current(VSC-mTDC)*** model uses an advanced method to handle the operational limits and control modes of VSCs into the power flow *** new model is incorporated into a unified framework encompassing AC and DC power grids and is solved by using the Newton-Raphson method to enable quadratically convergent iterative *** use of complementarity constraints,together with the Fischer-Burmeister function,is proposed to enable the seamless incorporation of operational control modes of VSC and automatic enforcement of any converter’s operational limits that become violated during the iterative solution ***,a dedicated process for checking limits is no longer ***,all existing relationships between the VSC control laws and their operational limits are considered directly during the solution of the power flow *** applicability of the new model is demonstrated with numerical examples using various multi-terminal AC-DC transmission networks,one of which is a utility-sized power system.
