This study explores the feasibility of different laser systems to sinter screen-printed lines from nonconductive copper nanoparticles(Cu NPs)on polyethylene terephthalate polymer film.These materials are commonly used in manufacturing functional printed electronics for large-area applications.Here,optical and thermal characterization of the materials is conducted to identify suitable laser sources and process conditions.Direct diode(808 nm),Nd:YAG(1064 nm and second harmonic of 532 nm),and ytterbium fiber(1070 nm)lasers are explored.Optimal parameters for sintering the Cu NPs are identified for each laser system,which targets low resistivity and high processing speed.Finally,the quality of the sintered tracks is quantified,and the laser sintering mechanisms observed under different wavelengths are analyzed.Practical considerations are discussed to improve the laser sintering process of Cu NPs.

Disease Progression, Response to ACEI/ATRA Therapy and Influence of ACE Gene in IgA Nephritis

Various studies have shown that angiotensin-converting enzyme （ACE） gene insertion/deletion （ID） polymorphism may play a role in the progression to end stage renal failure （ESRF） in patients with IgA nephritis （IgAN）. In this randomized controlled trial, patients were followed up for 5 years to determine their long-term renal outcome to ACEI/ATRA therapy and to ascertain if their ACE gene profile could play a role in determining their response to therapy. Seventy-five patients with IgAN were enlisted. Thirty-seven were on ACEI/ATRA therapy for 62 ± 5 months and thirty-eight were untreated and served as controls. All patients had their ACE gene ID polymorphism genotyped. Compared to controls, treated patients had lower serum creatinine （p 〈 0.001）, lower proteinuria （p 〈 0.002） and fewer numbers progressing to ESRF （p 〈 0.002）. Among patients with genotype II, there were less ESRF in the treatment group when compared to the untreated control group （p 〈 0.02）. The advantage of therapy was not seen in patients with ID or DD genotypes. ACEI/ATRA therapy was found to be effective in retarding disease progression in IgAN with years to ESRF significantly extended in patients at all levels of renal function, including patients whose outcome were ESRF. Genotyping showed better response to therapy only for those with genotype Ⅱ. The common mechanism is probably through lower levels of ACE, glomerular pressure and proteinuria resulting in reduced renal damage and retardation of progression to ESRF. Intracellular calcium ions facilitate dengue virus entry into endothelial cells and compromise endothelial barrier integrity

Objective:To investigate the involvement of Ca^(2+)in dengue virus(DENV)-infected human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)and the disruption of endothelial integrity.Methods:HUVECs were infected with DENV-2 in the presence of intracellular Ca^(2+)or endoplasmic reticulum Ca^(2+)chelators.Virus infectivity was measured by focus-forming assay and quantitative RT-PCR.Intracellular Ca^(2+)was measured using Fluo-4-AM dye.VE-cadherin and focal adhesion kinase(FAK)expressions were investigated by immunofluorescence and immunoblotting assays,respectively.Results:DENV infection increased intracellular cytosolic Ca^(2+)levels and caused disassembly of the adherens junction protein,VEcadherin as evidenced by decreased VE-cadherin expression at the periphery of DENV-2 infected HUVECs.Depletion of intracellular Ca^(2+)stores,particularly those of the endoplasmic reticulum Ca^(2+),significantly decreased DENV yield in HUVECs.Decreased virus yield following the depletion of intracellular Ca^(2+)was caused by the inhibition of viral entry into HUVECs and not the inhibition of viral binding or attachment.DENV-2 infection also resulted in Ca^(2+)-dependent activation of FAK.Conclusions:Intracellular Ca^(2+)is required for the early phases of DENV infection in endothelial cells.Increased cytosolic Ca^(2+)levels in endothelial cells during DENV infection activated FAK,disrupted adherens junctions and compromised barrier integrity.Thus,Ca^(2+)plays an important role in DENV infection in endothelial cells.
