Injectable polymeric nanoparticle hydrogel system for long-term anti-inflammatory effect to treat osteoarthritis

Treatment of osteoarthritis(OA)by administration of corticosteroids is a commonly used method in clinics using anti-inflammatory *** administration or intra-articular injection of corticosteroids can reduce the pain and progress of cartilage degeneration,but they are usually insufficient to show local and long-term anti-inflammatory effects because of their fast clearance in the *** this study,we suggest an injectable anti-OA drug depot system for sustained drug release that provides long-term effective therapeutic *** poly(organophosphazene),which has temperature-dependent nanoparticle forming and sol-gel transition behaviors when dissolved in aqueous solution,was synthesized for triamcinolone acetonide(TCA)*** hydrophobic parts of the polymer can interact with hydrophobic parts of the TCA,the TCA was encapsulated into the self-assembled polymeric *** TCA-encapsulated polymeric nanoparticles(TePNs)were well dispersed in an aqueous solution below room temperature so that they can be easily injected as a sol state into an intra-articular ***,the TePNs solution transforms immediately to a viscose 3D hydrogel like a synovial fluid in the intra-articular region via the conducted body *** in vitro TCA release study showed sustained TCA release for six ***-time injection of the TePN hydrogel system in an early stage of OA-induced rat model showed a great inhibition effect against further OA *** OA-induced knees completely recovered as a healthy cartilage without any abnormal symptoms.

Callus proliferation-induced hypoxic microenvironment decreases shoot regeneration competence in Arabidopsis

Plants are aerobic organisms that rely on molecular oxygen for respiratory energy *** conditions,with oxygen levels ranging between 1%and 5%,usually limit aerobic respiration and affect plant growth and ***,we demonstrate that the hypoxic microenvironment induced by active cell proliferation during the two-step plant regeneration process intrinsically represses the regener-ation competence of the callus in Arabidopsis *** showed that hypoxia-repressed plant regener-ation is mediated by the RELATED TO APETALA2.12(RAP2.12)protein,a memberof the Ethylene Response Factor VIl(ERF-Vll)*** found that the hypoxia-activated RAP2.12 protein promotes salicylic acid(SA)biosynthesis and defense responses,thereby inhibiting pluripotency acquisition and de novo shoot regeneration in *** and genetic analyses revealed that RAP2.12 could bind directly to the SALICYLIC ACID INDUCTION DEFICIENT 2(SID2)gene promoter and activate SA biosynthesis,repressing plant regeneration possibly via a PLETHORA(PLT)-dependent ***,the rap2.12 mutant calli exhibits enhanced shoot regeneration,which is impaired by SA *** together,these find-ings uncover that the cell proliferation-dependent hypoxic microenvironment reduces cellular pluripotency and plant regeneration through the RAP2.12-SID2 module.

A vacuum ultraviolet(VUV)spectroscopy with a focal length of 1 m has been engineered specifically for observing edge impurity emissions in Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST).In this study,wavelength calibration for the VUV spectroscopy is achieved utilizing a zinc *** grating angle and charge-coupled device(CCD)position are carefully calibrated for different wavelength *** wavelength calibration of the VUV spectroscopy is crucial for improving the accuracy of impurity spectral data,and is required to identify more impurity spectral lines for impurity transport *** spectra of EAST plasmas have also been obtained in the wavelength range of 50–300 nm with relatively high spectral *** is found that the impurity emissions in the edge region are still dominated by low-Z impurities,such as carbon,oxygen,and nitrogen,albeit with the application of fulltungsten divertors on the EAST tokamak.

Full‑Fiber Auxetic‑Interlaced Yarn Sensor for Sign‑Language Translation Glove Assisted by Artificial Neural Network

Yarn sensors have shown promising application prospects in wearable electronics owing to their shape adaptability, good flexibility, and weavability. However, it is still a critical challenge to develop simultaneously structure stable, fast response, body conformal, mechanical robust yarn sensor using full microfibers in an industrial-scalable manner. Herein, a full-fiber auxetic-interlaced yarn sensor(AIYS) with negative Poisson’s ratio is designed and fabricated using a continuous, mass-producible, structure-programmable, and low-cost spinning technology. Based on the unique microfiber interlaced architecture, AIYS simultaneously achieves a Poisson’s ratio of-1.5, a robust mechanical property(0.6 c N/dtex), and a fast train-resistance responsiveness(0.025 s), which enhances conformality with the human body and quickly transduce human joint bending and/or stretching into electrical signals. Moreover, AIYS shows good flexibility, washability, weavability, and high repeatability. Furtherly, with the AIYS array, an ultrafast full-letter sign-language translation glove is developed using artificial neural network. The sign-language translation glove achieves an accuracy of 99.8% for all letters of the English alphabet within a short time of 0.25 s. Furthermore, owing to excellent full letter-recognition ability, real-time translation of daily dialogues and complex sentences is also demonstrated. The smart glove exhibits a remarkable potential in eliminating the communication barriers between signers and non-signers.

Electrical conductivity(EC)of soil-water extracts is commonly used to assess soil ***,its conversion to the EC of saturated soil paste extracts(ECe),the standard measure of soil salinity,is currently required for practical *** many regression models can be used to obtain ECe from the EC of soil-water extracts,the application of a site-specific model to different sites is not straightforward due to confounding soil factors such as soil *** study was conducted to develop a universal regression model to estimate a conversion factor(CF)for predicting EC_(e) from EC of soil-water extracts at a 1:5 ratio(EC_(1:5)),by employing a site-specific soil texture(i.e.,sand content).A regression model,CF=8.9105e^(0.0106sand)/1.2984(r^(2)=0.97,Pboratory experiments using artificial saline soils with different textures(n=6,sand content=10%-65%)and salinity levels(n=7,salinity=1-24 dS m^(-1)).Model performance was validated using an independent dataset and demonstrated that EC_(e) prediction using the developed model is more suitable for highly saline soils than for low saline *** feasibility of the regression model should be tested at other *** soil factors affecting EC conversion factor also need to be explored to revise and improve the model through further studies.

Effect of friction on the contact stress of a coated polymer gear

Polymer gears are used extensively in various ***,durability issues have been emerging because of friction at gear tooth contact *** extend the lifetime of polymer gears,a low-frictional coating has been considered as a possible *** this study,a finite element simulation method was performed to investigate the contact stress between a pair of coated polymer *** simulation included various friction coefficients(COFs)for studying the effects of friction during the *** results revealed that the friction causes the contact stress to shift over the roll angle,which is attributed to the direction of the sliding friction based on a free-body *** also investigated the effects of coating and found that a thin coating has little effect on the bulk deformation behavior of the ***,the stress distribution in the coating at the pitch point was investigated as the COF *** zero friction,three notable stress regions were observed:1)the center of the surface,2)the end of the contact,and 3)the overall contact *** COF was increased in the micro-slip region of the contact interface,both tensile and compressive stresses in the coating *** study provides significant aid to engineers for understanding the stress response of the coating applied to polymer gears to achieve an optimal design.

Mg Alloy Foam Fabrication via Melt Foaming Method

For the first time AZ91 （MgAl9Zn1） and AM60 （MgAl6） Mg alloy foams with homogeneous pore structures were prepared successfully via melt foaming method using CaCO3 as blowing agent. It is revealed that the blowing gas to foam the melt is not CO2 but CO, which comes from liquid-solid reaction between Mg melt. The reaction temperature is more than 100℃ lower than CaCO3 decomposition, which makes Mg alloy melts foam into cellular structure much more easily in the temperature range from 690℃ to 750℃.

Dear Editor,Plant tissue culture involves callus formation and de novo shoot ***,explants from differentiated tissues are used to generate a pluripotent cell mass,called callus,on auxin-rich callus-inducing medium(CIM),followed by shoot regeneration on cytokinin-rich shoot-inducing medium(SiM).Callus results from division of pericycle-like cells(Atta et al.,2009;Sugimoto et al.,2010);its cellular identity resembles that of lateral root primordia(Atta et al.,2009;Sugimoto et al.,2010).Callus acquires cellular pluripotency by forming root stem cell niches on CIM(Sugimoto et al.,2010)。

Polymer donors with hydrophilic side-chains enabling efficient and thermally-stable polymer solar cells by non-halogenated solvent processing

Polymer solar cells(PSCs)with high power conversion efficiency(PCE)and environment-friendly fabrication are the main requirements enabling their production in industrial *** the use of non-halogenated solvent processing is inevitable for the PSC fabrication,it significantly reduces the processability of polymer donors(PDS)and small-molecule acceptors(SMAs).This often results in unoptimized blend morphology and limits the device *** address this issue,hydrophilic oligoethylene glycol(OEG)side-chains are introduced into a PD(2EG)to enhance the molecular compatibility between the PD and L8-bo *** 2EG PD induces higher crystallinity and alleviates phase separation with the SMA compared to the reference PD(PM7)with hydrocarbon ***,the 2EG-based PSCs exhibit a higher PCE(15.8%)than the PM7-based PSCs(PCE=14.4%)in the ortho-xylene based ***,benefitted from the reduced phase separation and increased crystallinity of 2EG PDS,the 2EG-based PSCs show enhanced thermal stability(84%of initial PCE after 120 h heating)compared to that of the PM7-based PSCs(60%of initial PCE after 120 h heating).This study demonstrates the potential of OEG side-chain-incorporated materials in developing efficient,stable,and eco-friendly PSCs.
