Revisiting the Mg isotopic systematics of siliciclastic components of sediments and sedimentary rocks:A new geochemical proxy of continental weathering in Earth's history

The Mg isotopic compositions of siliciclastic components(δ^(26)Mg_(sili))of sediments and sedimentary rocks have been commonly used to constrain the intensity of continental weathering,based on observations of,(1)an upward enrichment of26Mg in modern weathering profiles,(2)preferential uptake of26Mg in soil clays,and(3)general positive correlations between weathering intensities andδ^(26)Mg_(sili)values.However,not all weathering profiles display an upward increase ofδ^(26)Mg_(sili),and not all soil clays enrich in26Mg,complicating the interpretations ofδ^(26)Mg_(sili)data of sediments and sedimentary rocks.To further explore the controls ofδ^(26)Mg_(sili)of sediments and sedimentary rocks,here we measuredδ^(26)Mg_(sili),mineralogical compositions and major element compositions of deep sea sediments from South China Sea(SCS)and carbonate rock samples from two late Paleozoic sections in South China.Carbonate samples show decreasing trends of both normalized Mg concentration(Mgnorm)andδ^(26)Mg_(sili)values with the increase of weathering intensity,while SCS sediments samples do not show any correlation between Mgnormorδ^(26)Mg_(sili)values and weathering intensity.A three-stages weathering model is developed to explain the observed Mgnorm andδ^(26)Mg_(sili)data.In the new model,weathering can be divided into three stages,(1)the preliminary weathering stage characterized by dissolution of primary minerals and formation of secondary clay minerals in saprolite,(2)the transitional stage with massive vermiculite and chlorite formation on the bottom of soil,and(3)the advanced stage showing dissolution of vermiculite and chlorite in the top of soil.The new model explains anδ^(26)Mg_(sili)increase and Mgnormdecrease with an increase weathering intensity in preliminary weathering stage and decrease of Mgnormandδ^(26)Mg_(sili)with increase weathering intensity in advanced weathering stage.The revised weathering model warrants the application of Mg isotope in the study of continental weathering in deep time.

以纳米级2,6-二氨基-3,5-二硝基吡嗪-1-氧化物(LLM-105)为原料,采用溶剂诱导自组装法制备了横截面为矩形的LLM-105微米棒,并将制备的矩形LLM-105微米棒与直接合成的孪晶LLM-105样品进行了对比分析。研究了溶剂、纳米级LLM-105加入量、搅拌速率和自组装时间对自组装后LLM-105晶体形貌的影响,得到了最优自组装条件,发现以二甲基亚砜(DMSO)为溶剂,纳米LLM-105的加入量为40 g·L^(-1),搅拌速率为600 r·min^(-1)时以纳米LLM-105为原料自组装可得到规则的矩形棒状晶体,并提出了其可能的生长机理。采用扫描电子显微镜,X射线粉末衍射,差示扫描量热-热重,高效液相色谱分别对自组装后晶体的形貌、结构、热性能以及纯度进行了表征,发现自组装矩形LLM-105微米棒与直接合成的孪晶LLM-105相比,XRD主要衍射峰完全一致,但在2θ为11.1°、22.3°、24.8°和33.0°处的衍射峰强度有所降低,晶体可能沿着(100)方向择优生长;晶体纯度提高了1.8%,达到为98.8%;自组装制备得到的微米LLM-105晶体具有更好的热稳定性,仅存在356.7℃一个放热峰,热失重起始温度提高了34.8℃。

Data collection with microcrystals at synchrotron radiation facilities is challenging because it is difficult to harvest and locate microcrystals. Moreover,microcrystals are sensitive to radiation damage; thus, typically, a complete data set cannot be obtained with a single microcrystal. Herein, we report a new method for data collection with multiple microcrystals having a crystal size ranging from 1 to 30 lm. This method is suitable for not only low-temperature(100 K) data collection but also room-temperature data collection. Thin Kapton membranes were used to capture multiple crystals simultaneously. The microcrystals were visible under an optical microscope and easily located because the membrane was transparent and sufficiently thin. The film was fixed to a bracket that was prepared using a three-dimensional printer. The bracket was fixed on a magnetic base via screwing and employed by the goniometer system for data collection. Multiple data sets of fatty acid-binding protein 4(FABP4) and lysozyme microcrystals were collected using this novel designed device. Finally, the structures of protein FABP4 and lysozyme were obtained from these data via the molecule replacement method. The data statistics reveal that this method provides a comparable result to traditional methods such as a nylon loop.

Effect of Thermal Conductivity of Tube-Wall on Blow-Off Limit of a Micro-Jet Methane Diffusion Flame

The operating range of the flow rate or flow velocity for the micro-jet flame is quite wide,which can be used as the heat source.In order to optimize the micro-jet tube combustor in terms of the solid material,the present paper numerically investigates the impact of thermal conductivity(λs)on the operating limit of micro-jet flame.Unexpectedly,the non-monotonic blow-off limits with the increase ofλs is found,and the corresponding generation mechanisms are analyzed in terms of the thermal coupling effect,flow field,and strain effect.At first,the lower preheating temperature of the fuel and larger heat loss amount to the environment lead to a larger blow-off limit at a largerλs.After that,the smaller local flow velocity in the vicinity of flame root and smaller strain effect slightly increase the blow-off limit with the continuously increasingλs.Therefore,it is deduced that the applied performance of micro-jet combustor with a smaller thermal conductivity is better in terms of the blow-off limit.

The endoplasmic reticulum （ER） is the principal organelle responsible for several specific cellular functions including synthesis and folding of secretory or membrane proteins, lipid metabolism, and Ca^2＋ storage. Different physiological as well as pathological stress conditions can, however, perturb ER homeostasis, giving rise to an accumulation of unfolded or misfolded proteins in the ER lumen, a condition termed ER stress. To deal with an increased folding demand, cells activate the unfolded protein response （UPR）, which is initially protective but can become detrimental if ER stress is severe and prolonged. Accumulating evidence demonstrates a link between the UPR and ovarian development and function, including follicular growth and maturation, follicular atresia, and corpus luteum biogenesis. Additionally, ER stress and the UPR may also play an important role in the ovary under pathological conditions. Understanding the molecular mechanisms related to the dual role of unfolded protein response in the ovarian physiology and pathology may reveal the pathogenesis of some reproductive endocrine diseases and provide a new guidance to improve the assisted reproductive technology. Here we review the current literature and discuss concepts and progress in understanding the UPR, and we also analyze the role of ER stress and the UPR in the ovary.

Thermal self-compressing bonding(TSCB) is a new solid-state bonding method pioneered by the authors. With electron beam as the non-melted heat source, previous experimental study performed on titanium alloys has proved the feasibility of TSCB. However, the thermal stress–strain process during bonding, which is of very important significance in revealing the mechanism of TSCB, was not analysed. In this paper, finite element analysis method is adopted to numerically study the thermal elasto-plastic stress–strain cycle of thermal self-compressing bonding. It is found that due to the localized heating, a non-uniform temperature distribution is formed during bonding, with the highest temperature existed on the bond interface. The expansion of high temperature materials adjacent to the bond interface are restrained by surrounding cool materials and rigid restraints, and thus an internal elasto-plastic stress–strain field is developed by itself which makes the bond interface subjected to thermal compressive action. This thermal self-compressing action combined with the high temperature on the bond interface promotes the atom diffusion across the bond interface to produce solid-state joints. Due to the relatively large plastic deformation, rigid restraint TSCB obtains sound joints in relatively short time compared to diffusion bonding.

In response to the increasing penetration of volatile and uncertain renewable energy,the regional transmission organizations(RTOs)have been recently focusing on enhancing the models of pump storage hydropower(PSH)plants,which are one of the key flexibility assets in the day-ahead(DA)and real-time(RT)markets,to further boost their flexibility provision potentials.Inspired by the recent research works that explored the potential benefits of excluding PSHs’cost-related terms from the objective functions of the DA market clearing model,this paper completes a rolling RT market scheme that is compatible with the DA market.Then,with the vision that PSHs could be permitted to submit state-of-charge(SOC)headrooms in the DA market and to release them in the RT market,this paper uncovers that PSHs could increase the total revenues from the two markets by optimizing their SOC headrooms,assisted by the proposed tri-level optimal SOC headroom model.Specifically,in the proposed tri-level model,the middle and lower levels respectively mimic the DA and RT scheduling processes of PSHs,and the upper level determines the optimal headrooms to be submitted to the RTO for maximizing the total revenue from the two markets.Numerical case studies quantify the profitability of the optimal SOC headroom submissions as well as the associated financial risks.

Anlotinib,a novel multitarget tyrosine kinase inhibitor,has shown promising results in the management of various carcinomas.This study aimed to investigate the antitumor activity of anlotinib in oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC)and the underlying molecular mechanism.A retrospective clinical study revealed that anlotinib improved the median progression-free survival(m PFS)and median overall survival(m OS)of patients with recurrent and metastatic(R/M)OSCC,respectively.Functional studies revealed that anlotinib markedly inhibited in vitro proliferation of OSCC cells and impeded in vivo tumor growth of OSCC patientderived xenograft models.Mechanistically,RNA-sequencing identified that oxidative stress,oxidative phosphorylation and AKT/m TOR signaling were involved in anlotinib-treated OSCC cells.Anlotinib upregulated NADPH oxidase 5(NOX5)expression,elevated reactive oxygen species(ROS)production,impaired mitochondrial respiration,and promoted apoptosis.Moreover,anlotinb also inhibited phosphoAkt(p-AKT)expression and elevated p-e IF2αexpression in OSCC cells.NOX5 knockdown attenuated these inhibitory effects and cytotoxicity in anlotinib-treated OSCC cells.Collectively,we demonstrated that anlotinib monotherapy demonstrated favorable anticancer activity and manageable toxicities in patients with R/M OSCC.The antitumor activity of anlotinib in OSCC may be mainly involved in the suppression of mitochondrial respiration via NOX5-mediated redox imbalance and the AKT/e IF2αpathway.
