Dear Editor,We present a case of combined central retinal artery and vein occlusion associated with primary antiphospholipid syndrome(APS) treated by injection of dexamethasone intravitreal implant(Ozurdex;) and anticoagulant therapy. Written informed consent was obtained by the patient to allow publication of this case. The study was conducted in accordance with the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki.

Background:Artesunate(ART),a member of the artemisinin family,possesses multi-properties,including antiinflammation,anti-oxidation,and *** was recently reported to show anti-neovascularization effect on the cornea,iris,and *** to the expensive anti-VEGF treatment,this versatile,economical treatment option is attractive in the ophthalmic *** safety and toxicity profile of ART intravitreal application are in utmost ***:In this study,immortalized microglial(IMG)cells were treated with ART to determine the safe concentrations without inducing overt inflammatory *** transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis was used to detect the cytokine expressions in IMG cells in response to ART *** doses of ART were intravitreally injected into the right eyes of C57BL/6 *** function was tested by electroretinogram,and retinal ganglion cell(RGC)survival was evaluated by counting Brn3a stained cells in flat-mounted retinas at 7 days after ART ***:ART below 5μM was safe for IMG cells in *** 2.5 and 5μM ART treatment increased IL-10 gene expression in IMG cells while not changing IL-1β,IL-6,TNF-α,and *** the in vivo study,intravitreal injection of ART below 100μM did not cause deterioration in the retinal function and RGC survival of the mouse eyes,while 1 mM ART treatment significantly attenuated both the scotopic and photopic b-wave amplitudes and impaired RGC *** addition,treatment with ART of 25,50,and 100μM significantly decreased TNF-αgene expression while ART of 100μM significantly increased IL-10 in the mouse ***:Intravitreal injection of 100μM ART could downregulate TNF-αwhile upregulate IL-10 in the mouse retina without causing retinal functional deterioration and RGC *** might be used as anti-inflammatory agent for retinal disorders.

Artemisinin, also named qinghaosu, is a family of sesquiterpene trioxane lactone originally derived from the sweet wormwood plant(Artemisia annua), which is a traditional Chinese herb that has been universally used as anti-malarial agents for many years. Evidence has accumulated during the past few years which demonstrated the protective effects of artemisinin and its derivatives(artemisinins) in several other diseases beyond malaria, including cancers, autoimmune disorders, inflammatory diseases, viral and other parasiterelated infections. Recently, this long-considered antimalarial agent has been proved to possess anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic and anti-excitotoxic properties, which make it a potential treatment option for the ocular environment. In this review, we first described the overview of artemisinins, highlighting the activity of artemisinins to other diseases beyond malaria and the mechanisms of these actions. We then emphasized the main points of published results of using artemisinins in targeting ocular disorders, including uveitis, retinoblastoma, retinal neurodegenerative diseases and ocular neovascularization. To conclude, we believe that artemisinins could also be used as a promising therapeutic drug for ocular diseases, especially retinal vascular diseases in the near future.

Elemental doping is an effective strategy to enhance photocatalytic activity and extend the light absorption range of single-component *** this work,a series of La-doped CeO2nanorods（La-CeO2-x） with La content of 1 wt%-15 wt% are synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method and further used as photocatalyst for sulfamerazine（SMR） *** prepared La-CeO2-x nanorods exhibit a great improvement in electron-hole pair migration and visible-light response due to the synergistic effect of abundant oxygen vacancies and heterogeneous elements（La）.Consequently,La-CeO2-x exhibited excellent visible-light photocatalytic performances and chemical stability for SMR degradation,the La-CeO2-5 sample achieved the highest SMR degradation rate of 81%,which was 3.4 times higher than that of the original ***,three possible degradation pathways of SMR in La-CeO2photocatalytic reactions were proposed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry ***,density functional theory calculations were carried out to provide an in-depth understanding of the structure-performance *** its excellent properties and better photocatalytic performance,this study demonstrates that La doping in CeO2is an effective way to increase oxygen vacancy and improve the photochemical properties of photocatalysts.

The mechanism and the design parameters of blasting with air-decking are studied. The theory of detonation waves is used to investigate the processes of the one-dimensional plane detonation wave within a borehole. The interac- tion of the rarefaction wave with an interface and reflection on a rigid wall is also analyzed. The same courses of the shock wave are also investigated. This decides the distribution of the pressure of the explosion products changing with time along the borehole. Based on the above theoretical analysis, two conditions should be met for a reasonable range of values of the air-decking ratio in blasting rock. First, the rarefaction wave from the contact interface between detonation products and air reaches the bottom earlier than that of the reflected shock wave from the end of the stemming. Second, the reflected shock wave reaches the contact interface between the detonation products and air earlier than that of the reflected rarefaction wave from the bottom of the borehole. Finally, the reasonable value of the air-decking ratio must be decided theoretically in air-decking blasting. For different explosives, the reasonable range of air-decking ratio varies from 0.15 to 0.4. This result is well consistent with what was obtained by previous researchers.

Atom interferometer has been proven to be a powerful tool for precision metrology. Here we propose a cavity-aided nonlinear atom interferometer, based on the quasi-periodic spin mixing dynamics of an atomic spin-1 Bose−Einstein condensate trapped in an optical cavity. We unravel that the phase sensitivity can be greatly enhanced with the cavity-mediated nonlinear interaction. The influence of encoding phase, splitting time and recombining time on phase sensitivity are carefully studied. In addition, we demonstrate a dynamical phase transition in the system. Around the criticality, a small cavity light field variation can arouse a strong response of the atomic condensate, which can serve as a new resource for enhanced sensing. This work provides a robust protocol for cavity-enhanced metrology.

Retinitis pigmentosa(RP)is the most recognized inherited retinal disorder involving progressive photoreceptors degeneration which eventually causes ***,the pathogenesis of RP is still unclear,making it difficult to establish satisfying *** have been found to support the theory that vascular dysfunction is associated with the progression of *** coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)is a newly developed technology that enables visualization as well as quantitative assessment of retinal and choroidal vasculature *** in OCTA have opened a window for indepth understanding of RP ***,we propose a hypothesis of RP pathogenesis based on the current OCTA findings in RP,which includes four stages and two important key factors,vascular dysfunction and microglia ***,we discuss the future animal experiments needed and how advanced OCTA technology can help to further verity the *** final goal is to explore potential treatment options with enhanced understanding of RP pathogenesis.

Radio frequency quadrupoles(RFQs),which are crucial components of proton injectors,significantly affect the performance of proton accelerator *** RFQ with a high frequency of 714 MHz dedicated to compact proton injectors for medi-cal applications is designed in this *** RFQ is designed to accelerate proton beams from 50 keV to 4 MeV within a short length of 2 m and can be matched closely with the downstream drift tube linac to capture more particles through a preliminary *** develop an advanced RFQ,challenging techniques,including fabrication and tuning method,must be evaluated and verified using a *** aluminium prototype is derived from the conceptual design of the RFQ and then redesigned to confirm the radio frequency performance,fabrication procedure,and feasibility of the tuning ***,a new tuning algorithm based on the response matrix and least-squares method is developed,which yields favorable results based on the prototype,i.e.,the errors of the dipole and quadrupole components reduced to a low level after several tuning *** from the conceptual design and techniques obtained from the prototype,the formal mechanical design of the 2-m RFQ is ready for the next manufacturing step.
