Trust,politics and post-IPO performance:SOEs *** private sector

This paper empirically investigates the role of social trust in the long-term performance of the initial public offerings(IPOs)in China,controlling for the formal institutional *** find that privately owned or smaller IPO firms experience signifi-cantly better post-IPO performance when they are incorporated in regions with more social *** state-owned and bigger IPO firms,on the other hand,experience better long-term post-IPO performance when they are incorporated in regions with stronger formal institutions(*** enforcement and contract holding).Political pluralism turns out to benefit all IPOs in the long *** addition,our evidence shows that stronger social trust substitutes for the quality of court enforcement but complements the role of contract *** results are robust after controlling for alternative definitions of ownership,outliers,non-linear effects of institutions,and the potential endogeneity of institutions in the model.

Banking deregulation and corporate tax avoidance

We investigate whether tax avoidance substitutes for external financing. We exploit interstate banking deregulation as a quasi-external shock to examine whether firms engage in less tax avoidance after banking deregulation, because of cheaper and easier access to credit from banks. We find no empirical evidence to support this substitutive relation, even for firms with higher financial constraints or firms with higher external financing dependence.

Patterns of Species Richness and Abundance in Badingilo National Park in South Sudan

The study was carried out to determine patterns of birds’species richness,alpha and beta diversities;and abundance in Badingilo national park using a 10 m fixed-radius point count method.A total of 2670 individuals were recorded from 182 points in the *** highest expected number of species(Jack1 estimator)was observed in the Riverine habitat and least was in the Agriculture and Human settlement habitat *** total number of species observed in the park was 63;however Jack1 estimator indicated that there were 68 species in the *** majority of the birds observed during the study were resident species,few migratory and Palaearctic bird *** birds observed in the park were *** most abundant species was the village weaver(381 individuals),and the rarest species were black-bellied bustard,barn owl,black scimitar bill and tree pipit(one individual each).
