Isolation, serotype diversity and antibiogram of Salmonella enterica isolated from different species of poultry in India

Objective: To study the occurrence and serotype diversity of Salmonella isolates in different species of poultry(chicken, emu and duck) and determine their resistance pattern against various antibiotics of different ***: About 507 samples comprising 202 caecal contents and 305 fecal samples from chicken, emu and duck were processed for isolation of Salmonella enterica. Salmonellae were isolated and detected by standard protocol of ISO 6579 Amendment 1: Annex D. Genetic confirmation was also made by using 16 S r RNA genus specific PCR. Serotype specific PCR was also done to detect the most common serovars viz. Salmonella Enteritidis, Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Gallinarum. All obtained isolates were subjected to a set of 25 antibiotics to study their antibiogram by using Baeur-Kirby disk diffusion ***: Out of 507 samples processed, 32 isolates of Salmonella enterica(18 from caecal contents and 14 from faecal samples) were obtained, of which 24 belonged to 6 different serovars, 6 were untypeable and 2 were rough strains. Salmonella Enteritidis was the most predominant serotype(9), followed by Salmonella Typhimurium(5), Salmonella Virchow(4), Salmonella Gallinarum(3), Salmonella Reading(2) and Salmonella Altona(1). Antibiotic resistance pattern was maximum(100%) to oxacillin, penicillin and clindamycin, followed by ampicillin(68.75%), tetracycline(65.62%), nalidixic acid(56.25%) and colistin(46.87%). High sensitivity of isolates was recorded for chloramphenicol(96.87%) followed by meropenem(84.37%). Conclusions: Occurrence of high proportion of serovars in our study which can cause serious gastroenteritis in humans is a matter of concern. Salmonella Altona has been detected for the first time in India from poultry. This serotype is known to cause serious outbreaks of gastroenteritis in humans. Good nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining a balanced lifestyle. The beneficial effects of nutrition have been found to counteract nutritional disturbances with the expanded use of nutraceuticals to treat and manage cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and other developmental defects over the last decade. Flavonoids are found abundantly in plant-derived foods such as fruits, vegetables, tea, cocoa, and wine. Fruits and vegetables contain phytochemicals like flavonoids, phenolics, alkaloids, saponins, and terpenoids. Flavonoids can act as anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-microbial(antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral) antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-diarrheal agents. Flavonoids are also reported to upregulate apoptotic activity in several cancers such as hepatic, pancreatic, breast, esophageal, and colon. Myricetin is a flavonol which is naturally present in fruits and vegetables and has shown possible nutraceutical value. Myricetin has been portrayed as a potent nutraceutical that may protect against cancer. The focus of the present review is to present an updated account of studies demonstrating the anticancer potential of myricetin and the molecular mechanisms involved therein. A better understanding of the molecular mechanism(s) underlying its anticancer activity would eventually help in its development as a novel anticancer nutraceutical having minimal side effects.

In this paper an effort has been made to study the general characteristics of slow particles produced in the interactions of 32S-Em at 200 AGeV to extract the information about the mechanism of particle production. The results have been compared with the experimental results obtained by other workers. The multiplicity distributions of the slow target associated particles (black, grey and heavy tracks) produced by 32S-beam with different targets have been studied. Also several types of correlations among them have been investigated. The variation of the produced particles with projectile mass number and target size has been studied. Also the multiplicity distributions of slow particles with NBD fits are presented and scaling multiplicity distributions of slow particles produced have been studied in order to check the validity of KNO-scaling.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging network infrastructure with more than five devices owned by a single user. Wireless connectivity forms the backbone of such infrastructure. IoT uses diverse wireless communication technologies such as IEEE 802.15.4, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth, RFID, BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), and various other cellular technologies. Wi-Fi is most suitable for IoT Home or office networks. Practically wireless signals do not adhere to the boundaries of the office or home, or organization and impose inherent security risks like information leakage, unauthorized access, other security and privacy threats to networking infrastructure. Therefore Authorization/Association of devices is one of the main security concerns. This paper discusses how unauthorized access to wireless networks (Wi-Fi) can be secured by improving existing WPA2 protocol security.

Laparoscopic Transabdominal Preperitoneal Mesh Hernioplasty: A Medical College Experience

Objectives: To determine the feasibility and patient’s outcome of laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal mesh hernioplasty for inguinal hernias. Patients and Methods: This study was carried out from March 2011 to April 2014. A total of 130 patients underwent laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal mesh hernioplasty (TAPP) for uncomplicated inguinal hernia. Of this, 10 patients presenting with bilateral inguinal hernias were operated in the single sitting. A 15 cm × 12 cm polypropylene mesh was used in all cases. Operative morbidity, postoperative pain, seroma formation, evidence of superficial infection, chronic groin pain and hernia recurrence were noted. The majority of the patients were discharged within 24 hours and follow-up was done at 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months. Results: 130 patients presenting with uncomplicated inguinal hernias were operated over a period of three years in the department of surgery, Govt. Medical College Srinagar. The mean age of the patients was 39.18 years (range: 18 - 70 years). The median duration of operation was 48.5 minutes (range: 18 - 120 minutes). None of the procedure was converted to open inguinal hernia repair. Postoperative pain was observed in 9.23% of the cases and was easily controlled by oral analgesics. Six patients (4.62%) developed seroma, out of which one required aspiration while others settled conservatively. Two patients (1.54%) developed wound infection and one patient (0.77%) had recurrence. None of the patients developed scrotal hematoma or neuralgia. Return to normal activity after TAPP repair was found to be after a median of 16.1 days. Conclusion: Transabdominal preperitoneal repair for inguinal hernia using proline mesh may be a safe and effective procedure with low morbidity, early return to normal activity and with a very low recurrence after six months follow-up.

Flat breads are very popular especially in those parts of the world where bread constitutes a major source of dietary protein and calories. There are several forms of flat bread, and the variation is mainly in terms of ingredient, technology, and quality. Several modifications in the formulations have been made in the recent past in order to improve the quality and delicacy of these food products. With urbanization and industrialization, the demand for ready to eat and easy to carry products resembling flat bread in appearance, but having desirable qualities of bread offers one exciting possibility to this effect. In India, wheat is one of the daily staples, consumed in the form of different flat breads such as Chapati, Parotha, Phulka, Puri and Tandoori Roti. Different wheat varieties have been used for the production of flat breads. In recent years, many researchers have tried to improve ingredient level, baking properties, organoleptic characteristics, nutritional value and extension of the shelf life of flat bread. They are usually produced from a simple recipe consisting of flour, salt and water in varying proportions, however, sometimes the manufactures also use optional ingredients like yeast fat, skim milk powder and certain additives like emulsifiers, hydrocolloids, enzymes and preservatives for quality improvement and shelf life enhancement.

In order to study the effects of different levels of salt stress and nitrogen(N) on physiological mechanisms,carbon isotope discrimination(△13C),and yield of two wheat cultivars(cv.),a two-year field experiment was carried out during *** treatments included three levels of salt stress(1.3,5.2,and 10.5 dS m^-1),three levels of N(50,100,and 150 kg N ha-1),and two wheat cultivars,Bam and *** salt stress,N application(100 and 150 kg N ha^-1) produced a significant effect on both cultivars with respect to physiological traits,i.e.,net photosynthetic rate(Pn),stomatal conductance(gs),chlorophyll index(Cl),Na^+/K^+ ratio as well as the grain yield(GY).The salt-tolerant and-sensitive cultivars exhibited the maximum values of physio-biochemical and yield attributes at 100 and 150 kg N ha-1,*** results of △13C showed a significant difference(P<0.001) between wheat cultivars under the control and salt *** to our result,salt-tolerant cultivar Bam seems to be more efficient in terms of higher GY,Pn,gs,Cl,and lower Na^+/K^+ ratio as well as higher △13C as compared with salt-sensitive cultivar Toos,under salt ***,a significant positive correlation that observed between △13C and GY,indicated that △13C may be an effective index for indirect selection of yield potential in wheat under irrigation regimes with saline water.

This work displays a study of the compound multiplicity characteristics of 14.6 and 200 AGeV/c 28Si and 32S-emulsion interactions, where the number of shower and grey particles taken together is termed as compound multiplicity, Nc. It has been found that the average compound multiplicity depends on the mass number of the projectile, Ap, and energy of the projectile. A positive linear dependence of the compound multiplicity on the black, grey, heavy and shower particles has been found. Also the scaling of compound multiplicity distributions produced in these interactions has been studied in order to check the validity of KNO-scaling. A simplified universal function has been used to represent the experimental data. The experimental results have been compared with those obtained by analyzing events generated with the computer code FRITIOF based on Lund Monte Carlo model.
