We observed a C-class flare at the outer boundary of the superpenumbra of a sunspot. The flare was triggered by an emerging magnetic bipolar region that was obliquely oriented with respect to the superpenumbral fibrils. The flare started due to the low height magnetic reconnection of emerging magnetic flux with a superpenumbral field resulting in hot multi-temperature plasma flows in the inverse Evershed flow channel and its overlying atmosphere. Inverse Evershed flows in the chromosphere start from the superpenumbra towards the sunspot that end at the outer boundary of the penumbra. The hot plasma flow towards the sunspot in the inverse Evershed channels show about 10 km s^-1 higher velocity in Ha wavelengths compared to the plasma emissions at various temperatures as seen in different AIA filters. Even though these velocities are about seven times higher than the typical inverse Evershed flow speeds, the flow is diminished at the outer boundary of the sunspot＇s penumbra. This suggests that the superpenumbral field lines that carry inverse Evershed flows are discontinued at the boundary where the penumbral field lines dive into the sun and these two sets of field lines are completely distinct. The discontinuity in the typical magnetic field and plasma properties at the adjoining of these two sets of field lines further leads to discontinuity in the characteristic magnetoacoustic and Alfvrn speeds, thereby stopping the plasma flows further on. The multi-temperature plasma in the inverse Evershed channels exhibits possible longitudinal oscillations initially during the onset of the flare, and later flows towards the sunspot. In the multi-temperature view, the different layers above the flare region have a mixture of supersonic as well as subsonic flows.

Silica Induced Early Fibrogenic Reaction in Lung of Mice Ameliorated by Nyctanthes arbortristis Extract

Objective To investigate the pharmacological effect of Nyctanthes arbortristis (NAT) leaf extract in the prevention of lung injury induced by silica particles. Method Lung injury was induced in Swiss mice through inhalation exposure to silica particles (<5m) using a Flow Past Nose Only Inhalation Chamber at the rate of -10 mg/m3 respirable mass for 5 h. Lung bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid collected between 48 and 72 h was subjected to protein profiling by electrophoresis and cytokine evaluation by solid phase sandwich ELISA. Lung histopathology was performed to evaluate lung injury. Results Inhalation of silica increased the level of tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), and of the 66 and 63 kDa peptides in the BAL fluid in comparison to sham-treated control. Pre-treatment of silica exposed mice with NAT leaf extract significantly prevented the accumulation of TNF-a in the BAL fluid, but the 66 and 63 kDa peptides remained unchanged. The extract was also effective in the prevention of silica-induced early fibrogenic reactions like congestion, edema and infiltration of nucleated cells in the interstitial alveolar spaces, and thickening of alveolar septa in mouse lung. Conclusion NAT leaf extract helps in bypassing silica induced initial lung injury in mice.

Electrochemical Study of Diffusion Bonded Joints between Micro-duplex Stainless Steel and Ti6A14V Alloy

In the present study, corrosion behavior of diffusion bonded joints formed between micro-duplex stainless steel （MDSS） and Ti6AI4V alloy （TiA）（at 900 ~C for 60 min under 4 MPa uniaxial pressure in vacuum） was investigated in 1 mol/L HCI and 1 mol/L NaOH solutions using various electrochemical measurements such as open circuit potential （OCP）, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） and potentiodynamic polarization （PD）. For comparison, corrosion behavior of base metals （MDSS and TiA） was also evaluated. Bonded joint was characterized by light optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy using backscattered electron mode. The layer wise σ phase and λ ＋ FeTi phase mixture has been observed at the bond interface and the bond tensile strength and shear strength were - 556.4 MPa and -420.2 MPa, respectively.

SOCS3 dictates the transition of divergent time-phased events in granulocyte TNF-a signaling

Tumor-necrosis factor-a （TNF-a）-driven nuclear factor-KB （NF-KB） activation and apoptosis are opposing pathways; the growing recognition of these conflicting roles of TNF-a is perplexing. Here, we show that inflammation and apoptosis are time-phased events following TNF-a signaling and that emergence of suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 （SOCS3） expression limits the ongoing NF-KB activation and promotes apoptosis; further, we suggest an altered view of how inflammatory diseases are initiated and sustained. In vitro, TNF-a （50 ng/ml） induced granulocyte SOCS3 protein, inhibited nuclear accumulation of the p65NF-KB subunit and enhanced apoptosis, as shown by DNA laddering, annexin V positivity, and overexpression of caspase-3 and Bax in the late phase, whereas the early phase was marked by NF-KB activation. Conversely, SOCS3 knockdown by small interfering RNA （siRNA） inhibited granulocyte apoptosis and enhanced nuclear accumulation of p65 and 5＇ lipooxygenase expression in the late phase of TNF-a signaling. As apoptosis is associated with SOCS3 abundance, we suggest that these divergent TNF-a-driven events are time-phased, interconnected, opposing control mechanisms and one of the central features through which the immune system resolves pulmonary inflammation. Dysregulation may initiate mucosal inflammation, thus changing the landscape of asthma theraov.

Microstructures of co-axially folded vein segments and crenulation cleavage： Evidence for dissolution phenomena in the Chamba Thrust Sheet, western Himalayas

The metasediments in the Chamba region experienced three phases of deformation: DF1, DF2 and *** quartz veins are co-folded with the F2 crenulation folds. Their geometric and tectonic significance is studied by microstructures and shortening adjacent to the discrete crenulation cleavage, S2. Microstructures of folded vein segments, their geometric changes and truncation to cleavage (S2) are mainly due to pressure-solution phenomena and the estimated volume loss from reconstructed vein segments range from 16 to 25.5%,which is closely related to volume decrease (26%) calculated from the polydeformed slates of North Wales areas.

Prevalence of hypertension in India:A meta-analysis

AIM: To determine the prevalence of hypertension in the urban and rural population of ***: Relevant studies were identified through computer based and manual searches using MEDLINE/ Pub Med, Google scholar, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and reference lists of prevalence studies from January 2000 to June 2012. A total of 12 studies were included in the meta-analysis of hypertension in urban India and 10 studies in the analysis of hypertension in rural India after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Estimates of prevalence were calculated using the random effect model for ***: The electronic search using appropriate keywords identified 177 titles for prevalence of hypertension in urban India, of which 165 were excluded, and 133 titles for prevalence in rural India, of which123 were excluded after applying the inclusion criteria. Twelve studies including 125333 subjects were analyzed to assess the prevalence of hypertension in the urban Indian population, whereas ten studies including 24800 subjects were analyzed to determine the prevalence of hypertension in the rural Indian population. The prevalence of hypertension in the urban population was estimated to be 40.8%(95%CI: 40.5%-41.0%) and that of hypertension in the rural population was 17.9%(95%CI: 17.5%-18.3%). It is evident that the prevalence of hypertension is significantly higher in the urban population of India compared to the rural. CONCLUSION: Current evidence suggests that policies and interventions should be prioritized for reduction of hypertension in the adult Indian population, especially the urban population.

Sensing Behaviour of Some Nanocomposite Systems

Silver nanoparticles of diameters 3.4 to 13.2 nm grown at the interfaces between silicate glass and some oxide crystallites exhibited about six orders of magnitude reduction in resistivity for a relative humidity change from 25% to 80%. Sn-SnO2 nano core-shell structure prepared within a gel-derived silica glass film by electrodeposition technique followed by heat treatment showed large change in resistivity as a function of humidity. The resistivity also changed due to gas flow of CO2, C2H5OH and NO2, respectively. The latter arose because of reduction/oxidation of Sn4+/Sn2+ species present at the shell layer of the nanostructures. Nickel nanosheets of thickness ~0.6 nm grown within the interlayer spaces of Na-4 mica crystallites showed a change of dielectric permittivity (5%) for an applied magnetic field of 1.2 Tesla. An inhomogeneous model was used to explain this behavior. Two dimensional CuO phase was grown within the channels of diameter ~5 nm of mesoporous SiO2 structure. A magnetodielectric (MD) parameter M.D. of 4.4% was obtained in this case. BaTiO3 nanoparticles of diameter ~25 nm having pores with diameter 10 nm showed multiferroic behavior which arose due to the presence of oxygen vacancies as a result of large surface area present. An M.D. parameter of 11% was found. Similarly mesoporous LiNbO3 of 10 nm diameter showed an M.D. parameter of ~4.5% at a magnetic field 1 Tesla. A giant magnetocapacitance effect with a value of 44% at 1.5 T was observed in nickel zinc ferrite (NZF) impregnated mesoporous silica. A magnetocapacitance of 51% at magnetic field 1.7 T was found in the case of nanocomposites comprising of iron ion containing silica based nanoglass and mesoporous silica. In the last two examples the behavior was explained on the basis of Catalan model of space-charge polarization with extracted values of magnetoresistance of the NZF and nanoglass phases being 58%.

Cut-off of body mass index and waist circumference to predict hypertension in Indian adults

AIM: To determine the cut-off values of body mass index(BMI) and waist circumference to predict hypertension in adults in north ***: A community based cross-sectional study was conducted in 801 subjects in Kanpur, aged 20 years and above, using multistage stratified random sampling technique. A pre-tested structured question-naire was used to elicit the required information from the study participants and the diagnostic criteria for hypertension were taken according to the Seventh Joint National Committee Report on Hypertension(JNC-7). Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) analysis was used to estimate the cut-off values of BMI and waist circumference to predict ***: The ROC analysis revealed that BMI is a good predictor of hypertension for both men(area under the ROC curve 0.714) and women(area under the ROC curve 0.821). The cut-off values of BMI for predicting hypertension were identified as ≥ 24.5 kg/m2 in men and ≥ 24.9 kg/m2 in women. Similarly, the ROC analysis for waist circumference showed that it is a good predictor of hypertension both for men(area under the ROC curve 0.784) and women(area under the ROC curve 0.815). The cut-offs for waist circumference for predicting hypertension were estimated as ≥ 83 cm for men and ≥ 78 cm for women. Adults with high BMI or high waist circumference had a higher prevalence of hypertension, ***: Simple anthropometric measurements such as BMI and waist circumference can be used for screening people at increased risk of hypertension in order to refer them for more careful and early diagnostic evaluation. Policies and programs are required for primary and secondary prevention of hypertension.

This paper presents three islands whose reliance on the tourism industry has stimulated economic growth, socio-cnltural benefits, and environmental preservation along with the negative impacts of environmental degradation, cultural dilution, and economic leakages. Key to this research is the management of those challenges through sustainable tourism opportunities involving various stakeholders and their role in minimizing economic leakages, social inequity, and environmental degradation.
