The study was conducted to explore the possibility of utilization of Terminalia arjuna as a novel natural preservative in meat products by using chevon sausages as a model *** sausages were prepared by incorporating different levels of *** viz.T1(0.25%),T2(0.50%)and T3(0.75%)and were assessed for various lipid oxidative stability and storage quality parameters under refrigerated(4±1◦C)*** showed a significant(p<0.05)effect on the lipid oxidative stability as the treated products exhibited significantly(p<0.05)lower TBARS(mg malonaldehyde/kg)values in comparison to control.A significant(p<0.05)effect was also observed on the microbial stability as *** incorporated products showed significantly(p<0.05)lower values for total plate count(log cfu/g),psychrophilic count(log cfu/g),yeast and mould count(log cfu/g)and FFA(%oleic acid)***(p<0.05)higher scores were observed for various sensory parameters of the products incorporated with *** during refrigerated *** successfully improved the lipid oxidative stability and storage quality of the model meat product and may be commercially exploited as a novel preservative in muscle foods.

Introduction: Haemostasis is a critical component of ear surgeries, which can be achieved by topical methods including simple manual pressure with gauze or cotton balls soaked with adrenaline, administration of haemostatic agents or vasoconstrictive materials. Objective: To compare efficacy of haemocoagulase and adrenaline in attaining middle ear haemostasis in type - 1 tympanoplasty with or without cortical mastoidectomy. To study the effect of haemocoagulase in middle ear. Materials and method: This is a prospective comparative study conducted in a tertiary care hospital from January 2013 to June 2014. Patients undergoing type 1 tympanoplasty with or without cortical mastoidectomy were divided into two groups. In group A (50 cases), cotton balls soaked in 2ml Haemocoagulase was used and in group B (50 cases) cotton balls soaked in 2 ml Adrenaline (1:1000 dilution) was used for middle ear haemostasis. The efficacy of haemocoagulase and adrenaline was compared. Results: The mean number of cotton balls used in haemocoagulase group in cases with congested middle ear mucosa was more than those used in the adrenaline group. Duration of surgery was more in haemocoagulase group (65 min) with congested mucosa, compared to adrenaline group (50 min). The mean blood pressure was significantly higher in adrenaline group compared to haemocoagulase group. Postoperative hearing improvement in both groups showed no significant difference with p value 0.694. Conclusions: Adrenaline is a better middle ear haemostatic than haemocoagulase. However, haemocoagulase can safely be used in patients with hypertension.

The process ofmelanogenesis in melanocytes and the transport of melanin in the form ofmelanosomes to the neighboring keratinocytes are the key steps in human skin pigmentation. Keratinocytes and melanocytes interact in intricate manner to maintain the homeostasis. The present study was designed to understand the role of cell-cell interaction through the gap junctions between melanocytes and keratinocytes on melanogenesis. We show that, inhibition of the gap junctional activity between human keratinocytes and melanocytes in a coculture system using gap junction blocker lowers the expression of key regulatory genes of melanogenesis such as tyrosinase and microphthalmia- associated transcription factor （MITF）. This was followed by concurrent decrease in tyrosinase protein levels and activity. Our results show the preliminary evidence for the regulation of melanogenesis in melanocytes through direct gap junctional communication by keratinocytes. Deciphering the mechanism and factors involved in the process would uncover the significance of gap junctions in melanogenesis.

In this study,the multi-quasiparticle triaxial projected shell model(TPSM)is applied to investigateγ-vibrational bands in transitional nuclei of *** report that each triaxial intrinsic state has aγ-band built on *** TPSM approach is evaluated by the comparison of TPSM results with available experimental data,which shows a satisfactory *** energy ratios,B(E2)transition rates,and signature splitting of theγ-vibrational band are calculated.

1, 3, 4-Oxadiazole derivatives(4 a–5 f) were previously synthesized to investigate their anticancer ***, studies relating to their antioxidant potential and signal transducer and activator of transcription(STAT) inhibition have not been performed. We investigated previously synthesized 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole derivatives(4 a–5 f) for various radical scavenging properties using several in vitro antioxidant assays and also for direct inhibition of STAT3 through molecular docking. The data obtained from various antioxidant assays such as 2, 2,-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical(DPPH), nitric oxide, hydrogen peroxide, and superoxide anion radical revealed that among all the derivatives, compound 5 e displayed high antioxidant activities than the standard antioxidant L-ascorbic acid. Additionally, the total reduction assay and antioxidant capacity assay further confirmed the antioxidant potential of compound 5 e. Furthermore, the molecular docking studies performed for all derivatives along with the standard inhibitor STX-0119 showed that binding energy released in direct binding with the SH2 domain of STAT3 was the highest for compound 5 e(-9.91 kcal/mol).Through virtual screening, compound 5 e was found to exhibit optimum competency in inhibiting STAT3 activity. Compound 5 e decreased the activation of STAT3 as observed with Western blot. In brief, compound5 e was identified as a potent antioxidant agent and STAT3 inhibitor and effective agent for cancer treatment.

Objective:To find the effectiveness of essential oil of lemongrass for the treatment of pathogenic ***:Lemongrass oil was investigated for activity against Staphylococcus aureus (***),Bacillus cereus(***),Bacillus subtilis(***),Escherichia coli(***), Klebsiella pneumoniae(***) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***),using Agar Diffusion Method and Broth Dilution *** inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC) were determined by the Broth Dilution Method. The antibiotic susceptibility test against the test organisms was performed by Disc Diffusion ***:Lemongrass was found effective against all the test organisms except P. *** positive organisms were found more sensitive to lemon grass oil as compared to gram negative *** test organisms were found inhibited by Lemon grass oil at lower concentrations in Broth Dilution Method as compared to Agar Diffusion ***: The tested organisms,particularly gram-negative organisms had shown high resistance towards different antibiotics whereas they were found to be inhibited by lemongrass oil even at lower *** lemongrass oil is effective against drug resistant *** can be suggested that use of lemongrass oil would be helpful in the treatment of infections caused by multidrug resistant organisms.

Airway management of morbidly obese patients is challenging due to inherent anatomical and physiological variations.[1]The frequent association of compromised hemodynamics,hypoxemia,or acidosis in an emergency department(ED)setting adds to the difficulty of the *** airway management position(RAMP),awake fiber-optic guided intubation,use of intubating laryngeal mask airway(ILMA),and video-laryngoscope are a few techniques that have been described to tackle difficult airways in these patients.[2]Studies have shown that the availability of fi ber-optic scopes(3%–60%),videolaryngoscopes(39%–88%),and laryngeal mask airways(LMA)(65%–83%)varies in different ED settings.[3,4]Furthermore,a lack of adequate training and the need for time-bound resuscitation make implementation of the above techniques challenging.

Estimation of terrestrial biomass depends critically on reliable information about wood specific gravity of forest trees. In recent years, wood specific gravity has become more important when exploring the universality of functional traits of plants and estimating their global carbon stocks. To estimate their specific gravity, wood samples were collected from a total of 34 tree species, 30 from lower elevations and 4 from upper elevations in the Garhwal Himalayas, India. The results show that the average wood specific gravity was 0.631 （ranging between 0.275 ± 0.01 and 0.845 ± 0.03） for the species at lower elevations and 0.727 （ranging between 0.628 ± 0.02 and 0.865 ± 0.02） for the upper elevations. The average wood specific gravity for the upper elevation species was 9.6% greater than that for the species at lower elevations. Aegle marmelos among the lower elevation species and Quercus leucotrichophora among the upper elevation species had the highest wood specific gravity, which were 0.845 ± 0.03 and 0.865 ± 0.02, respectively.
