In marker-assisted breeding for bac.erial blight(BB) resistanc. in ric., three major resistanc. genes, viz., Xa21, xa13 and xa5, are routinely deployed either singly or in c.mbinations. As effic.ent and func.ional markers are yet to be developed for xa13 and xa5, we have developed simple Pc.-based func.ional markers for both the genes. For xa13, we designed a func.ional Pc.-based marker, xa13-prom targeting the In Del polymorphism in the promoter of c.ndidate gene Os8N3 loc.ted on c.romosome 8 of ric.. With respec. to xa5, a multiplex-Pc. based func.ional marker system, named xa5 FM, c.nsisting of two sets of primer pairs targeting the 2-bp func.ional nuc.eotide polymorphism in the exon II of the gene TFIIA5(c.ndidate for xa5), has been developed. Both xa13-prom and xa5 FM c.n differentiate the resistant and susc.ptible alleles for xa13 and xa5, respec.ively, in a c.-dominant fashion. Using these two func.ional markers along with the already reported func.ional Pc.-based marker for Xa21(p TA248), we designed a single-tube multiplex Pc. based assay for simultaneous detec.ion of all the three major resistanc. genes and demonstrated the utility of the multiplex marker system in a segregating population.

Pyometra is one of the most c.mmon uterine pathologies of intac. bitc. at middle to advanc.d age. In the early stages, the disease shows subtle c.anges, making diagnosis a c.allenge. In c.ntrast, at later stages, it manifests as potentially life-threatening systemic.inflammatory response syndrome. Ultrasonographic.examination of the uterus aids in the diagnosis, although it has limitation in asc.rtaining the c.inic.l severity of pyometra. Moreover, differentiation of c.stic.endometrial hyperplasia from pyometra c.uld not be disc.rned with greater ac.urac.. Therefore, false negative diagnosis of pyometra patients leads to development of systemic.inflammatory response, whic. delays administration of therapies and results in deaths during early c.urse of treatment. Further, indisc.iminate use of broad-spec.rum antimic.obials at higher dose in false positive c.ses c.nsiderably c.ntributes to the rising pool of drug resistant pathogens, thereby inc.easing the risk of c.se fatality due to sepsis in a long-term. Monitoring the c.rc.lating pro-inflammatory c.tokines, ac.te phase proteins, endotoxin, growth fac.ors and inflammatory mediators is the c.rrent trend in pyometra researc., espec.ally for developing diagnostic.and prognostic.biomarkers. The present review deals with the prospec.s of developing diagnostic.and prognostic.biomarkers in the c.nine pyometra.

c.inic.pathologic.l c.rrelation of Primary Malignant Bone Tumors—An Observational Study

Bac.ground: Primary malignant tumors arising from bone are unc.mmon but important malignant neoplasms whic. ac.ount for 0.2% of all primary c.nc.rs in adults and approximately 5% of all c.ildhood malignanc.es. Aim: No c.mprehensive surveillanc. data about primary malignant bone tumors is available from this region of West Bengal in the literature. An attempt is undertaken to c.rrelate c.inic.pathologic.l findings, both histologic.l & c.tologic.l features of primary bone tumours. Method: This observational study of c.inic.l presentation was c.rroborated with c.tology and histopathology of 67 c.ses of primary malignant bone tumors in 2005-2007 in a tertiary health c.re c.ntre. Results: Among the primary malignant tumors, 39 c.ses (58.20%) were male and 28 (41.80%) were female. Sixty one lesions (91%) were loc.ted in the long bones and 6 (9%) involving flat and short bones. Osteosarc.mas are found to be the predominant primary malignant bone tumors (44.77%), followed by Ewing’s sarc.mas (20.89%), c.ondrosarc.mas (13.43%), high grade giant c.ll tumor, and plasmac.toma (5.97%). Predilec.ion for male (M: F 2:1) found in both osteosarc.ma and c.ondrosarc.ma, but it was reverse in c.ses of Ewing’s sarc.mas. c.nc.usion: Osteosarc.ma is the most c.mmon around knee joint and c.ondrosarc.ma is frequent in long bones in this region. We made an attempt to c.rrelate FNAc.findings with the histopathology and it was seen that overall sensitivity of FNAc.of primary malignant bone tumors was 56.71%.

The present paper investigates the effec. of strain rate on different tensile properties of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) c.mposite. Tensile spec.mens of virgin HDPE-PP c.mposites are prepared via twin sc.ew extruder and injec.ion moulding methods as per ASTM D638-02a (Type-I);with gage length 50 mm, width 13 mm and thic.ness 3 mm. c.mposites are fabric.ted with PP as reinforc.ng agent at a loading rate of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% by weight. Experiments are c.rried out at room temperature of 23°c.and absolute humidity of 54% at a c.oss head speed of 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 mm/min. Stress and strain values at yield and break points are reported. Atomic.forc. mic.osc.py (AFM) is used to study the distribution of polymer molec.les in the mixture and surfac. roughness. As in last, experiments are designed by Taguc.i optimization method to find out the dominating fac.ors on tensile strength.

We have studied the dissoc.ation phenomenon of 1p states (χc.and χb) of the c.armonium and bottomonium spec.ra in a hot Qc. medium. This study employed a medium modified heavy quark potential enc.ding the medium effec.s in the dielec.ric.func.ion to the full c.rnell potential. The medium modified potential has a quite different form in the sense that it has a long range c.ulomb tail in addition to the usual Yukawa term even above the dec.nfinement temperature. We further study the flavor dependenc. of their binding energies and explore the nature of dissoc.ation by employing the perturbative, non-perturbative, and the lattic. parametrized form of the Debye masses in the medium-modified potential. Interestingly, perturbative result of the Debye mass predic.s the dissoc.ation temperatures c.oser to the results obtained in lattic. c.rrelator studies whereas the lattic. parametrized form of the Debye masses gives the results c.oser to the c.rrent theoretic.l works based on potential studies.

High-valent iron-oxo spec.es are implic.ted as key intermediates to selec.ively func.ionalize target c.H bonds in the c.talytic.c.c.es of a range of O2-ac.ivating iron *** reac.ions are typic.lly performed under ambient c.nditions with high effic.enc. and ***,eluc.dation of the enzymatic.reac.ion mec.anism at the atomic.level should aid in designing of novel bio-inspired c.talysts that are able to oxidize unac.ivated c.H bond under mild c.emic.l ***,we c.rried out systematic.studies of hydroxylation of alkane c.H bond by high-valent iron-oxo and–nitrido c.mplexes.1 We first evaluated all feasible reac.ion c.annels for alkane hydroxylation by iron（IV）oxo c.mplexes.2 Analysis of the elec.ronic.struc.ure c.anges along the key reac.ion c.ordinates reveals that the intrinsic.oxidant is an iron（Ⅲ）oxyl spec.es,whic. is generated by lengthening of the Fe-oxo bond.3,4 Then we extend our analysis to rationalize different reac.ivity of iron（IV/V/VI）-oxo and–nitrido c.mplexes toward c.H bond oxidation5 and diiron systems.6

Ellis Van c.eveld (EVc. syndrome is one of the c.ngenital anomalies not c.mpatible with life. It is also known as c.ondroec.odermal dysplasia. The most c.mmon manifestations of this syndrome are short ribs, postaxial polydac.yly, growth retardation, and ec.odermal and c.rdiac.defec.s. It has an inc.denc. of one in every 60,000 live births and equal sex predisposition. In our c.se, perinatal autopsy was performed in a stillborn baby of 32 weeks of gestation having syndac.yly, polydac.yly and short forearms to know the c.use of death and the diagnosis emerged as EVc.syndrome. It is important to diagnose EVc.syndrome as it is transmitted as an autosomal rec.ssive disorder, so genetic.c.unseling is required to make parents aware of the risk of rec.rrenc..

Perinatal infec.ion inc.eases the risk of neonatal neurologic.injury. Our objec.ive is to determine whether histologic.lly c.nfirmed c.orioamnionitis and funisitis is assoc.ated with fetal metabolic.ac.dosis. This is a retrospec.ive c.hort study of all infants 34 weeks or less born at a single tertiary hospital admitted to the neonatal intensive c.re unit (NIc.) between April 1999 and September 2002. Maternal and neonatal rec.rds and plac.ntal pathology reports were reviewed. There were 392 infants at 23 to 34 weeks’ gestational age admitted to the NIc. during this period of whom 354 had plac.ntal pathology reported; 259 infants had umbilic.l c.rd gases available. These neonates were plac.d into 3 groups: group 1 (208 infants) had no signs of plac.ntal infec.ion, group 2 (59 infants) had isolated c.orioamnionitis, and group 3 (87 infants) had both c.orioamnionitis and funisitis. The gestational age (30.2 ± 2.8, 28.3 ± 3.4, 27.8 ± 2.8 weeks, P c.ntly higher in group 1. There was an inc.ease in neurologic.morbidity in groups 2 and 3 (25.2% , 34.4% , 43.7% ), whic. was not signific.nt when c.rrec.ed for gestational age. Groups 2 and 3 had a small but signific.nt inc.ease in umbilic.l arterial pH (7.25 ± 0.10, 7.29 ± 0.10, 7.30 ± 0.08, P c.ss (- 3.5 ± 3.6, - 2.2 ± 3.6, - 2.3 ± 2.7 mmol/L, P =. 02). When a single pathologist reviewed all plac.ntas with any inflammation and staged them on the basis of the degree of the fetal inflammatory response, no relationship was found between the degree of fetal inflammation and umbilic.l arterial pH (stage 1, 7.27 ± 0.09; stage 2, 7.30 ± 0.09; stage 3, 7.30 ± 0.08; P =. 41) or base exc.ss (stage 1, - 2.82 ± 3.47 mmol/L; stage 2, - 1.95 ± 3.17 mmol/L; stage 3, - 2.23 ± 3.07 mmol/L; P =. 62).
