Objective:To explore the anti-cancer activity of maslinic acid against colorectal cancer(CRC)cell lines and its possible ***:The inhibitory effect of maslinic acid was screened against five CRC cell lines(HT-29,HCT 116,SW480,SW48,and LS 174 T)via 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide *** and cell cycle analyses were carried out using annexinⅤ-FITC/propidium iodide staining and propidium iodide staining,respectively and subjected to fluorescence-activated cell sorting *** expression studies of inhibitor ofκB kinase-β(IKK-β),checkpoint kinase 1(Chk1)and cyclin D1 were conducted using the JESS ***:Maslinic acid exhibited growth inhibitory effect in a doseand time-dependent manner in HT-29 and HCT 116 cell lines.A more prominent apoptosis induced by maslinic acid was observed in HCT 116 cell ***,in HT-29 cell line,maslinic acid induced cell cycle arrest by inhibiting the G1-S transition,which was accompanied by the downregulation of cyclin *** expression of unphosphorylated IKK-βprotein was increased in both(HT-29 and HCT 116)cell lines after maslinic acid ***:Maslinic acid inhibits the growth of HT-29 and HCT 116 cells in a different manner,induces cell cycle arrest in HT-29 cells and causes apoptosis in HCT 116 cells partially via NF-κB pathway inhibition.

Phenylethanol, tyrosol, and tryptophol are phenolic compounds or fusel alcohols formed via the Ehrlich pathway by yeast metabolism. These compounds can yield health benefits as well as contribute to the flavors and aromas of fermented food and beverages. This research shows that Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strain 96581 is capable of producing significantly higher levels of these three compounds when the precursor amino acids were supplemented into either the Chardonnay concentrate for wine-making or the malt concentrate for brewing English Ale. Strain 96581 can produce phenylethanol, tyrosol, and tryptophol as high as 434 mg/kg, 365 mg/kg, and 129 mg/kg, respectively, in the beer fermentation. The performance of Ale yeast WLP002 from White Labs Inc. was also analyzed for comparison. Strain 96581 outperformed WLP002 in the control beer, the amino acids supplemented beer, and the kiwi-beer background. This shows that Strain 96581 is more effective than WLP002 in converting the malt and the kiwi fruit supplements via its endogenous enzymes.

Effects of vitamin E on stroke: a systematic review with meta- analysis and trial sequential analysis

There are several previous studies on the association of vitamin E with prevention of stroke but the findings remain *** have conducted a systematic review,meta-analysis together with trial sequential analysis of randomised controlled trials to evaluate the effect of vitamin E supplementation versus placebo/no vitamin E on the risk reduction of total,fatal,non-fatal,haemorrhagic and ischaemic *** studies were identified by searching online databases through Medline,PubMed and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials.A total of 18 studies with 148016 participants were included in the *** was no significant difference in the prevention of total stroke(RR(relative risk)=0.98,95% CI 0.92-1.04,p=0.57),fatal stroke(RR=0.96,95% CI 0.77-1.20,p=0.73)and non-fatal stroke(RR=0.96,95% CI 0.88-1.05,p=0.35).Subgroup analyses were performed under each category(total stroke,fatal stroke and non-fatal stroke)and included the following subgroups(types of prevention,source and dosage of vitamin E and vitamin E alone vs control).The findings in all subgroup analyses were statistically *** stroke subtypes analysis,vitamin E showed significant risk reduction in ischaemic stroke(RR=0.92,95% CI 0.85-0.99,p=0.04)but not in haemorrhagic stroke(RR=1.17,95%CI 0.98-1.39,p=0.08).However,the trial sequential analysis demonstrated that more studies were needed to control random *** of this study include the following:trials design may not have provided sufficient power to detect a change in stroke outcomes,participants may have had different lifestyles or health issues,there were a limited number of studies available for subgroup analysis,studies were mostly done in developed countries,and the total sample size for all included studies was insufficient to obtain a meaningful result from *** conclusion,there is still a lack of statistically significant evidence of the effects of vitamin E on the risk reduction of str

While Raman spectroscopy is a useful method for analyzing many organic compounds, it is limited by relatively low sensitivity. Therefore, Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) based on the adsorption of organic analytes onto gold or silver nanostructures has been used to enhance the signal of chemicals presented at very low concentrations. Although the plasmonic effect of SERS has been shown to play a large role in signal enhancement, the significance of the chemical effect due to the analyte chemisorption on the gold or silver surface is less well understood. In this study, the role of aniline substituents is examined by probing the SERS intensities of various anilines in silver and gold colloids using a Raman spectrometer with an excitation wavelength of 785 nm. The SERS enhancement factors and detection limits for aniline and its mono- and di-substituted ortho derivatives are determined and compared. Both the steric requirements of chemisorption and the inductive effects of electron-withdrawal due to the substituents affect the signal intensities of various vibrational modes of the amino group and the aromatic ring. The degree of enhancement is also related to the methods for preparing the silver and gold colloids, which are characterized by probing the nanoparticle morphology and its degree of aggregation using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Study on Test Compaction in High-Level Automatic Test Pattern Generation (ATPG) Platform

Advancements in semiconductor technology are making gate-level test generation more challenging. This is because a large amount of detailed structural information must be processed in the search process of automatic test pattern generation (ATPG). In addition, ATPG needs to deal with new defects caused by process variation when IC is shrinking. To reduce the computation effort of ATPG, test generation could be started earlier at higher abstraction level, which is in line with top-down design methodology that has become more popular nowadays. In this research, we employ Chen’s high-level fault model in the high-level ATPG. Besides shorter ATPG time as shown in many previous works, our study showed that high-level ATPG also contributes to test compaction. This is because most of the high-level faults correlate with the gate-level collapsed faults especially at input/output of the modules in a circuit. The high-level ATPG prototype used in our work is mainly composed by constraint-driven test generation engine and fault simulation engine. Experimental result showed that more reduced/compact test set can be generated from the high-level ATPG.

Elucidating the Chemisorption Phenomena in SERS Studies via Computational Modeling

Colloidal gold solutions with nanostars and nanospheres as well as KlariteTM gold and gold-copper bimetallic substrates were used for SERS analysis of aniline and nitroaniline isomers to investigate their chemisorption phenomena. Computational modeling based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) was used in conjunction with the SERS analysis to study the adsorption behaviors of the analytes on metal surfaces. Gold nanospheres and KlariteTM samples produced about a 10-fold increase in signal enhancement compared to gold nanostars for the SERS analysis of aniline, nitroaniline isomers, and nitrobenzene. Signal enhancement is significantly greater for aniline compared to nitrobenzene and it is dependent on the proximity of the NH2 to the NO2 group for the nitroaniline isomers. Charge-transfer in chemisorbed analytes is an important contributing factor for SERS signal. The relative strengths of enhancement can be predicted by the DFT calculation of the HOMO-LUMO energy gaps of the analyte-metal cluster. Aniline and the three nitroaniline isomers showed stronger preference for the copper substrates if both the gold and copper substrates are present. The NO2 group in 2-nitroaniline has a very strong preference and affinity for the copper in the Au-Cu bimetallic cluster.

Aim： To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of vardenafil, a phosphodiesterase type-5 （PDE-5） inhibitor, in men of Asian ethnicity with erectile dysfunction （ED）. Methods： In this prospective, double-blind, multinational study, Asian men were randomized to receive vardenafil （10 mg） or placebo （4：1 ratio） for 12 weeks. The primary efficacy variables were the International Index of Erectile Function erectile function domain （IIEF-EF）, and Sexual Encounter Profile （SEP） questions related to penetration and intercourse completion. Significant mean improvements were required in all three measures to show positive benefits of vardenafil treatment. Secondary efficacy variables included the Global Assessment Question （GAQ） on erection improvement. Results： Least-squares mean baseline IIEF-EF domain scores （vardenafil 14.6, placebo 13.4） were consistent with moderate ED. After 12 weeks, vardenafil treatment was associated with significant increases from the baseline in IIEF-EF domain scores compared with the placebo （22.4 vs. 14.3; P 〈 0.001）. Vardenafil was associated with significant improvements from baseline in least squares （LS） mean success rates for SEP-2 （vardenafil 82.2 vs. placebo 43.6; P 〈 0.001） and SEP-3 （vardenafil 66.1 vs. placebo 24.0; P 〈 0.001）. Positive GAQ responses were reported by 81.8% of vardenafil recipients vs. 24.3% of placebo recipients. Adverse events were reported by 25.4% of the vardenafil group, the majority mild and transient. Conclusion： Vardenafil （10 mg） is a highly effective and well-tolerated treatment for moderate ED in Asian men. These results add to the increasing amount of data demonstrating the safety and efficacy of vardenafil for the treatment of ED in a range of patient populations.
