Large nonlinearity at the single-photon level can pave the way for the implementation of universal quantum ***,realizing large and noiseless nonlinearity at such low light levels has been a great challenge for scientists in the past ***,we propose a scheme that enables substantial nonlinear interaction between two light fields that are both stored in an atomic *** and quantum simulations demonstrate the feasibility of achieving large cross-phase modulation(XPM)down to the single-photon *** proposed scheme can be used to implement parity gates from which cNOt gates can be ***,we present a proof of principle experimental demonstration of XPM between two optical pulses:one stored and one freely propagating through the memory medium.

this study examines whether auditors are employed as a monitoring mechanism to mitigate agency problems arising from different types of controlling shareholders. In a context of concentrated ownership and poor investor protection, controlling shareholders can easily expropriate wealth from minority shareholders and profit from private benefits of control. However, this agency conflict has been rarely studied, as the most commonly assumed agency conflict occurs between managers and shareholders. Using an audit fee model derived from , we study the impact of the nature of controlling shareholders on audit fees in French listed firms. Our results show: (1) a negative relationship between audit fees and government shareholdings; (2) a positive relationship between audit fees and institutional shareholdings; and (3) no relationship between audit fees and family shareholdings. these results illustrate the mixed effects of the nature of ownership on audit fees.

Purpose:the aim of this study was to review,systematically,evidence concerning the link between the ActN3 R577X polymorphism and the rates and severity of non-contact injuries and exercise-induced muscle damage in athletes and individuals enrolled in exercise training ***:A computerized literature search was performed in the electronic databases PubMed,Web of Science,and SPORtDiscus,from inception until November *** included studies compared the epidemiological characteristics of non-contact injury between the different genotypes of the ActN3 R577X ***:Our search identified 492 *** the screening of titles,abstracts,and full texts,13 studies examining the association between the ActN3 genotypes and the rate and severity of non-contact injury were included in the *** studies were performed in 6 different countries(Spain,Japan,Brazil,china,the Republic of Korea,and Italy)and involved a total participant pool of 1093 *** the studies,2 studies involved only women,5 studies involved only men,and 6 studies involved both men and *** the studies included were classified as highquality studies(≥6 points in the Physiotherapy Evidence Database(PEDro)scale score).Overall,evidence suggests there is an association between the ActN3 R577X genotype and non-contact injury in 12 *** studies observed a significant association between A ctN3 R577X polymorphism and exercise induced muscle damage:2 with non-contact ankle injury,3 with non-contact muscle injury,and 1 with overall non-contact ***:the present findings support the premise that possessing the ActN3 XX genotype may predispose athletes to a higher probability of some non-contact injuries,such as muscle injury,ankle sprains,and higher levels of exercise-induced muscle damage.

trends in ophthalmology journals： a five-year bibliometric analysis （2009-2013）

AIM： to explore the trends in the ophthalmic literature over a 5-year period in relation to country, research expenditure and demographics. MEtHODS： Articles published between 2009 and 2013 by the 20 highest-contributing countries in the 20 top- ranked ophthalmology journals were identified by their country of affiliation. the number of articles published and mean impact factor were measured per country for each year and trends explored using regression analysis with 5-year and 10-year forecasts calculated. Data on research expenditure was collected and tested for correlation with the number of articles and mean impact factor. RESULtS： the analysis included 19 338 articles. the USA, UK and Europe accounted for 60.2% of articles published, with the USA contributing 7388 articles （34.0%）. the USA also demonstrated the highest mean impact factor （3.5）. Research expenditure was significantly correlated with both research output （r=0,86, P〈0.001） and scholarly impact （r=0.42, P〈0.001）. china （P〈0.01）, Korea （P〈0.01） and India （P〈0.02） demonstrated a significant growth in research output over the study period. the research contribution of these three countries combined is forecasted to overtake that of Europe within ten years, with china expected to be the second-largest contributor within five years. these countries were also among those demonstrating the greatest growth in research expenditure. cONcLUSION： While the USA and European countries are major contributors of ophthalmic research, the productivity of some Asian countries is growing impressively. the contribution of china, Korea and Indiais forecasted to outweigh that of Europe by 2023. Research expenditure is highly correlated with research productivity and these trends reflect the differing economic priorities across the world.

the increasing use of images in miscellaneous applications such as medical image analysis and visual quality inspection has led to growing interest in image ***,images are often contaminated with noise which may corrupt any of the following image processing ***,noise filtering is often a necessary preprocessing step for the most image processing ***,in this paper an optimized field-programmable gate array(FPGA)design is proposed to implement the adaptive vector directional distance filter(AVDDF)in hardware/software(HW/SW)codesign context for removing noise from the images in *** that,the high-level synthesis(HLS)flow is used through the Xilinx Vivado HLS tool to reduce the design complexity of the HW *** SW part is developed based on c/c++programming language and executed on an advanced reduced instruction set computer(RISc)machines(ARM)cortex-A53 *** communication between the SW and HW parts is achieved using the advanced extensible Interface stream(AXI-stream)interface to increase the data *** experiment results on the Xilinx ZcU102 FPGA board show an improvement in processing time of the AVDDF filter by 98%for the HW/SW implementation relative to the SW *** result is given for the same quality of image between the HW/SW and SW implementations in terms of the normalized color difference(NcD)and the peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR).

the fuzzy production scheduling problem considering mould maintenance(FPSP-MM) is studied. the processing time and the maintenance time are represented by triangular fuzzy numbers. When tasks are executed based on the sequence provided by the fuzzy schedule, the real duration of each task needs to be known so the posteriori solution with deterministic processing times can be obtained. therefore, the concept of the schedule robustness needs to be considered for the fuzzy problem. the robustness is considered as the optimization objective except for the fuzzy makespan in this research. to optimize these two objective functions, a multi-objective pigeon inspired optimization(MOPIO) algorithm is developed. to extend the pigeon inspired optimization(PIO) algorithm from the single-objective case to the multi-objective case, nondominated solutions are used as candidates for the leader pigeon designation and a special crowding distance is used to ensure a good distribution of solutions in both the objective space and the corresponding decision space. Furthermore, an index-based ring topology is used to manage the convergence speed. Numerical experiments on a variety of simulated scenarios show the excellent efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed MOPIO algorithm by comparing it with other algorithms.

this paper uses a finite dominating set （FDS） to investigate the multi-facility ordered median problem （OMP） in a strongly connected directed network. the authors first prove that the multi-facility OMP has an FDS in the node set, which not only generalizes the FDS result provided by Kalcsics, et al. （2002）, but also extends the FDS result from the single-facility case to the multiple case, filling an important gap. then, based on this FDS result, the authors develop an exact algorithm to solve the problem. However, if the number of facilities is large, it is not practical to find the optimal solution, because the multi-facility OMP in directed networks is NP-hard. Hence, we present a constant-approximation algorithm for the p-median problem in directed networks. Finally, we pose an open problem for future research.

High-throughput scanning electron microscopy(SEM)coupled with classification using neural networks is an ideal method to determine the morphological handedness of large populations of chiral *** labeling removes the time-consuming manual labeling of training data,but introduces label error,and subsequently classification error in the trained neural ***,we evaluate methods to minimize classification error when training from automated labels of SEM datasets of chiral tellurium *** the mirror relationship between images of opposite handed particles,we artificially create populations of varying label *** analyze the impact of label error rate and training method on the classification error of neural networks on an ideal dataset and on a practical *** the three training methods considered,we find that a pretraining approach yields the most accurate results across label error rates on ideal datasets,where size and other morphological variables are held constant,but that a co-teaching approach performs the best in practical application.

A novel laboratory experimental design is described that will investigate the processing of dust grains in astrophysical shocks. Dust is a ubiquitous ingredient in the interstellar medium(ISM) of galaxies; however, its evolutionary cycle is still poorly understood. Especially shrouded in mystery is the efficiency of grain destruction by astrophysical shocks generated by expanding supernova remnants. While the evolution of these remnants is fairly well understood, the grain destruction efficiency in these shocks is largely unknown. the experiments described herein will fill this knowledge gap by studying the dust destruction efficiencies for shock velocities in the range ～10–30 km/s(μm/ns), at which most of the grain destruction and processing in the ISM takes place. the experiments focus on the study of grain–grain collisions by accelerating small(～1 μm) dust particles into a large(～5–10 μm diameter) population; this simulates the astrophysical system well in that the more numerous, small grains impact and collide with the large population. Facilities that combine the versatility of high-power optical lasers with the diagnostic capabilities of X-ray free-electron lasers, e.g., the Matter in Extreme conditions instrument at the SLAc National Accelerator Laboratory, provide an ideal laboratory environment to create and diagnose dust destruction by astrophysically relevant shocks at the micron scale.
