Perioperative Adjunct magnesium Decreases Postoperative Opioid Requirements—A meta-Analysis

Objectives: magnesium (mg) is the fourth most common cation in the body and has numerous physiological activities and anti-nociceptive effects. The anti-nociceptive effects are primarily mediated by regulation of calcium influx into the cell and antagonism of the N-methyl-D-aspartate glutamate receptors. Opioids are widely used as analgesics to minimize postoperative pain, but their use is associated with various side effects as well as the potential for addiction and tolerance. systemic mg has been proposed as an adjunct to minimize postoperative pain in numerous clinical studies. This meta-analysis aims to critically examine the ability of perioperative intravenous (IV) mg to reduce opioid use and its’ side effects. methods: A comprehensive literature search of Pub med, Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials, and Google scholar (1966-2016) was performed to identify all randomized control trials (RCTs) assessing the use of perioperative IV mg in the reduction of postoperative opioid consumption. Keywords searched included combinations of “magnesium”, “pain”, “postoperative”, “preoperative”, “analgesia” and “opioid”. Inclusion criteria included RCTs comparing the use of perioperative IV mg with a control group in adult patients (>18 yrs) undergoing elective surgery. Cumulative opioid consumption within the first 24 hours (hrs) postoperative period and the incidence of nausea and vomiting were analyzed. Results: 14 RCTs involving 910 patients were identified (455 patients received mg and 455 patients received placebo or no therapy). Opioid consumption was significantly decreased in the systemic mg group (standard mean difference [smD]: 1.39, 95% CI 1.83 to -0.96;p p p = 0.234). systemic mg adjunct had no significant effect on postoperative nausea and vomiting (RR = 0.63;95% CI 0.38 to 1.04;p = 0.07). This work presents an implementation of an innovative single phase multilevel inverter using capacitors with reduced switches. The proposed Capacitor pattern H-bridge multilevel Inverter (CPHmLI) topology consists of a proper number of Capacitor connected with switches and power sources. The advanced switching control supplied by Pulse Width modulation (PDPWm) to attain mixed staircase switching state. The charging and discharging mode are achieved by calculating the voltage error at the load. Furthermore, to accomplish the higher voltage levels at the output with less number of semiconductors switches and simple commutation designed using CPHmLI topology. To prove the performance and effectiveness of the proposed approach, a set of experiments performed under various load conditions using mATLAB tool.

New Edge-Directed Interpolation Based-Lifting DWT and msPIHT Algorithm for Image Compression

The amount of image data generated in multimedia applications is ever increasing. The image compression plays vital role in multimedia applications. The ultimate aim of image compression is to reduce storage space without degrading image quality. Compression is required whenever the data handled is huge they may be required to sent or transmitted and also stored. The New Edge Directed Interpolation (NEDI)-based lifting Discrete Wavelet Transfrom (DWT) scheme with modified set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees (msPIHT) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The NEDI algorithm gives good visual quality image particularly at edges. The main objective of this paper is to be preserving the edges while performing image compression which is a challenging task. The NEDI with lifting DWT has achieved 99.18% energy level in the low frequency ranges which has 1.07% higher than 5/3 Wavelet decomposition and 0.94% higher than traditional DWT. To implement this NEDI with Lifting DWT along with msPIHT algorithm which gives higher Peak signal to Noise Ratio (PsNR) value and minimum mean square Error (msE) and hence better image quality. The experimental results proved that the proposed method gives better PsNR value (39.40 dB for rate 0.9 bpp without arithmetic coding) and minimum msE value is 7.4.

Among the natural hazards, destructive earthquakes are the most common cause of casualties and financial losses and human deaths several times more in developing countries than developed countries. By increasing urbanization and construction process, construction activities and because Behbahan is a new city and is located near active faults, earthquake risk is increasing and will have disastrous results. Historical data also indicate destructive earthquakes in 1052 and 1085 with the magnitudes of 8.6 and 8.5 on the Richter scale which destroyed Arjan and killed many people. Due to frequent earthquakes in Behbahan as well as numerous small and large faults around it, the city has high seismic potential. so locating new developments and constructions should be more accurate.

Assessment of the state of Forests Based on Joint statistical Processing of sentinel-2B Remote sensing Data and the Data from Network of Ground-Based ICP-Forests sample Plots

The research was carried out on the territory of the Karelian Isthmus of the Leningrad Region using sentinel-2B images and data from a network of ground sample plots. The ground sample plots are located in the studied territory mainly in a regular manner, laid and surveyed according to the ICP-Forests methodology with some additions. The total area of the sample plots is a small part of the entire study area. One of the objectives of the study was to determine the possibility of using the k-NN (nearest neighbor method) to assess the state of forests throughout the whole studied territory by joint statistical processing of data from ground sample plots and sentinel-2B imagery. The data of the ground-based sample plots were divided into 2 equal parts, one for the application of the k-NN method, the second for checking the results of the method application. The systematic error in determining the mean damage class of the tree stands on sample plots by the k-NN method turned out to be zero, the random error is equal to one point. These results offer a possibility to determine the state of the forest in the entire study area. The second objective of the study was to examine the possibility of using the short-wave vegetation index (sWVI) to assess the state of forests. As a result, a close statistically reliable dependence of the average score of the state of plantations and the value of the sWVI index was established, which makes it possible to use the established relationship to determine the state of forests throughout the studied territory. The joint use and statistical processing of remotely sensed data and ground-based test areas by the two studied methods make it possible to assess the state of forests throughout the large studied area within the image. The results obtained can be used to monitor the state of forests in large areas and design appropriate forestry protective measures.

ELmAN Neural Network with modified Grey Wolf Optimizer for Enhanced Wind speed Forecasting

The scope of this paper is to forecast wind speed. Wind speed, temperature, wind direction, relative humidity, precipitation of water content and air pressure are the main factors make the wind speed forecasting as a complex problem and neural network performance is mainly influenced by proper hidden layer neuron units. This paper proposes new criteria for appropriate hidden layer neuron unit’s determination and attempts a novel hybrid method in order to achieve enhanced wind speed forecasting. This paper proposes the following two main innovative contributions 1) both either over fitting or under fitting issues are avoided by means of the proposed new criteria based hidden layer neuron unit’s estimation. 2) ELmAN neural network is optimized through modified Grey Wolf Optimizer (mGWO). The proposed hybrid method (ELmAN-mGWO) performance, effectiveness is confirmed by means of the comparison between Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), Adaptive Gbest-guided Gravitational search Algorithm (GGsA), Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Cuckoo search (Cs), Particle swarm Optimization (PsO), Evolution strategy (Es), Genetic Algorithm (GA) algorithms, meanwhile proposed new criteria effectiveness and precise are verified comparison with other existing selection criteria. Three real-time wind data sets are utilized in order to analysis the performance of the proposed approach. simulation results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid method (ELmAN-mGWO) achieve the mean square error AVG ± sTD of 4.1379e-11 ± 1.0567e-15, 6.3073e-11 ± 3.5708e-15 and 7.5840e-11 ± 1.1613e-14 respectively for evaluation on three real-time data sets. Hence, the proposed hybrid method is superior, precise, enhance wind speed forecasting than that of other existing methods and robust.

Optimal coordination of directional over current relays using evolutionary programming
