Four analogs of the Schistosoma mansoni P28 antigenic peptide P141 were designed according to the similarity in the structure of the amino acid residues and Chou-Fasman's secondary structurally conformational parameters P alpha, P beta and Pt values, also according to the hydrophilicity of the amino acid residues. They were synthesized by using Merrifield solid phase peptide synthesis method. ELISA experiments showed their antigenicity.

This study was designed using c-myc antisense transcripts to evaluate how alteration of c-myc expression in human myeloid leukemic HL-60 cells could influence the myelomonocytic differentiation and induction of apoptosis. The recombinant plasmid pDACx expressing antisense transcripts to c-myc fragment containing a part of intron 1 and 137 nt exon 2 was constructed. pDACx was transfected into HL-60 cell line by lipofectin *** stainings including NBT reduction, peroxidase and α -NAE as well as detection of CD13 and CD33 antigens by flow cytometric analysis indicated occurrence of myelomonocytic differentiation in cells expressing antisense transcripts to c-myc. DNA degradation measured by DNA gel electrophoresis and typical morphological changes observed under electron microscope proved the switchon of apoptosis in terminally differentiating HL-60 cells.

A new SA (simulated annealing) method is presented for the design of longitudinal shim coils for NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) equipment. First, AGL (adaptive Gauss-Lobatto) quadrature used by the traditional SA method is analyzed. Two kinds of complete elliptic integrals are introduced to integrate the spatial magnetic field, which increases the computing speed by 13. 3 times. Then, the system energy calculation is extended to the field of the z-axis. The results illustrate that the coil-set efficiency designed by the new SA method is 15 % higher than that of the traditional one, and the field inhomogeneity is reduced from 1.20 % to 0.49 % . Finally, a prototype of coil assembly for NMR rock-core analyzer is built, and the experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretically calculated results.

Diffusion time and diffusion gradient strength are two important parameters of pulsed gradient spin echo (PGSE) that is the most commonly used method in diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. However, the effects of the diffusion time on the mean diffusivity (MD) in previous studies are controversial. In this study, a new experimental protocol was designed to evaluate the effects of the two parameters on the results of PGSE. It was found that MD decreased significantly with the increased diffusion time or increased diffusion gradient strength, which cannot be explained by the previous theories. Through theoretical analysis, we found the flaw in the pulsed gradient spin echo (PGSE) method, which is the explanation for the controversial results of diffusion time obtained by oth- ers.
