AIM:To support probe-based confocal laser endomi-croscopy (pCLE) diagnosis by designing software for the automated classification of colonic polyps. METHODS:Intravenous fluorescein pCLE imaging of colorectal lesions was performed on patients under-going screening and surveillance colonoscopies, followed by polypectomies. All resected specimens were reviewed by a reference gastrointestinal pathologist blinded to pCLE information. Histopathology was used as the criterion standard for the differentiation between neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. The pCLE video sequences, recorded for each polyp, were analyzed off-line by 2 expert endoscopists who were blinded to the endoscopic characteristics and histopathology. These pCLE videos, along with their histopathology diagnosis, were used to train the automated classification software which is a content-based image retrieval technique followed by k-nearest neighbor classification. The performance of the off-line diagnosis of pCLE videos established by the 2 expert endoscopists was compared with that of automated pCLE software classification. All evaluations were performed using leave-one-patient- out cross-validation to avoid bias. RESULTS:Colorectal lesions (135) were imaged in 71 patients. Based on histopathology, 93 of these 135 lesions were neoplastic and 42 were non-neoplastic. The study found no statistical significance for the difference between the performance of automated pCLE software classification (accuracy 89.6%, sensitivity 92.5%, specificity 83.3%, using leave-one-patient-out cross-validation) and the performance of the off-line diagnosis of pCLE videos established by the 2 expert endoscopists (accuracy 89.6%, sensitivity 91.4%, specificity 85.7%). There was very low power (< 6%) to detect the observed differences. Gastric ghrelin in relation to gender,stomach topography and Helicobacter pylori in dyspeptic patients

AIM： To investigate the level of gastric ghrelin in stomach mucosa of dyspeptic patients in relation to Helicobacter pylor/（H pylori） infection, bacterial cytotoxicity, topography and ***： The study comprised 40 premenopausal women （19 H pylori positive） and 48 men （17 H pylori positive） with functional dyspepsia. All gastric biopsy specimens revealed normal mucosa or non-atrophic gastritis. Gastric ghrelin concentration was determined by Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The cagA and vacA strains of bacterial DNA were identified by multiplex polymerase chain ***： In general, infection with H pylori caused an increase in gastric ghrelin level regardless of gender and stomach topography. Significantly more hormone was present in both, non-infected and H pylori positive female samples, as compared to males. The distribution of bacterial strains showed cagA（＋） vacA slml and cagA（-） vacA s2m2 genotypes as the most common infections in the studied population. A tendency to higher ghrelin levels was observed in less cytotoxic （cagA negative） strain-containing specimens from the antrum and corpus of both gender groups （without statistical significance）. CONCLUSION： An increase in gastric ghrelin levels at the stage of non-atrophic gastritis in H pylori positive patients, especially in those infected with cagA（-） strains, can exert a gastroprotective effect.

Corrosion Mechanisms of SEN Slagband Materials

Wear of a zirconia graphite slagband material by mold slag during casting of a TRIP steel grade was investigated on worn specimens with respect to corrosion and erosion. Corrosion dissolution of both the stabilizer oxide and the zirconia is decisive. Oxidation is dominating graphite wear whereas a possible dissolution in the liquid steel was not observed to play an important role here. The ratio of oxide corrosion to graphite oxidation decreases with decreasing vertical distance of the hot face to the steel bath. Unfortunately and contrary to other applications of carbon bonded refractories in steel industry graphite exhibits to be wetted by mold slag in the special case investigated here： it still acts as a refractive component but only partly as an infiltration inhibitor. Infiltration is followed by zirconia corrosion thus reducing erosion resistance, but nevertheless also gas phase transport of slag components may cause exsolution of the stabilizer oxide in un-infiltrated regions.

The Glucosinolate Biosynthetic Gene A OP2 Mediates Feed-back Regulation of Jasmonic Acid Signaling in Arabidopsis

Survival in changing and challenging environments requires an organism to efficiently obtain and use its resources. Due to their sessile nature, it is particularly critical for plants to dynamically optimize their meta- bolism. In plant primary metabolism, metabolic fine-tuning involves feed-back mechanisms whereby the output of a pathway controls its input to generate a precise and robust response to environmental changes. By contrast, few studies have addressed the potential for feed-back regulation of secondary metabolism. In Arabidopsis, accumulation of the defense compounds glucosinolates has previously been linked to genetic variation in the glucosinolate biosynthetic gene AOP2. AOP2 expression can increase the transcript levels of two known regulators （MYB28 and MYB29） of the pathway, suggesting thatAOP2 plays a role in positive feed-back regulation controlling glucosinolate biosynthesis. We generated mutants affecting AOP2, MYB28/29, or both. Transcriptome analysis of these mutants identified a so far unrecognized link between AOP2 and jasmonic acid （JA） signaling independent of MYB28 and MYB29. Thus, AOP2 is part of a regulatory feed-back loop linking glucosinolate biosynthesis and JA signaling and thereby allows the glucosinolate pathway to influence JA sensitivity. The discovery of this regulatory feed-back loop provides insight into how plants optimize the use of resources for defensive metabolites.
