Betalains protect various body organs through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways

Betalains are natural coloring pigments with betalamic acid as the core structure of all subclasses.Besides their coloring properties,betalains exhibit various biological activities,including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,which are highly imperative.Further in-vivo studies reported that betalains protect various body organs,leading to health enhancement.Body organs,including the heart,liver,kidney,lung,etc.,are important for a healthy life.However,these organs can be affected or damaged by various stress factors,toxicants,and harmful substances.Recent studies have claimed that betalains could protect all vital organs of the body through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms.This review article described the in-vivo antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of betalains in various cell-line or animal models.A comprehensive discussion has been provided on the mechanism of action of betalains in protecting various body organs,including cardio-protective effect,hepato-protective ability,renal protection capacity,repro-protective ability,neuro-protective effect,lung protection,and gut protection ability.Finally,future research directions and conclusions have been outlined.

Elucidating the anti-obesity phytochemicals in Chenpi and their molecular mechanisms

Obesity has become a significant global public health issue. Previous studies have found that the Chenpi has the anti-obesity activity. However， the anti-obesity phytochemicals and their mechanisms are still unclear. This study investigated the anti-obesity phytochemicals and molecular mechanisms involved in treating obesity by Chenpi through network pharmacology and molecular docking. Seventeen bioactive phytochemicals from Chenpi and its 475 related anti-obesity targets have been identified. The KEGG pathway analysis showed that the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway， MAPK signaling pathway， AMPK signaling pathway， and NF-kappa B signaling pathway are the main signaling pathways involved in the anti-obesity effect of Chenpi. According to molecular docking analysis， the phytochemicals of Chenpi can bind to central anti-obesity targets. Based on the ADMET analysis and network pharmacology results， tangeretin exhibited the lowest predicted toxicity and the highest potential for anti-obesity effects. In the in vitro lipid accumulation model， tangeretin effectively suppressed the FFA-induced lipid in HepG2 cells by upregulating the PI3K/Akt/GSK3β signaling pathway based on the result of q-PCR and Western Blotting. The outcomes of this research give insights for future research on the anti-obesity phytochemicals and molecular mechanisms derived from Chenpi， also providing the theoretical basis for developing anti-obesity functional foods based on Chenpi.

A narrative review on inhibitory effects of edible mushrooms against malaria and tuberculosis-the world’s deadliest diseases

The isolated secondary metabolites from 39 edible mushrooms are reported,among which 107 compounds were active,61 demonstrated antitubercular activities with IC_(50) range of 0.2-50μg/mL and 46 manifested antimalarial effects with IC_(50) range of 0.061-36μg/mL.While more than 2000 strains of edible mushrooms are identified,this review shows the paucity of research in these rich organisms featuring a vital culinary ingredient worldwide.A thorough search was conducted on basidiomycetes to discuss the chemistry and biology of the isolated compounds,structure activity relationships(SAR)as well as the cytotoxicity profiles of,primarily,the active anti-plasmodial and antitubercular molecules.With a safe cellular profile,lanostane triterpenoids were found to be the only molecules with combined activities against both diseases.SAR correlations reviewed here indicated the significance of 3β-and 7α-hydroxylation in the anti-tuberculosis activity and the terminal unsaturated moiety between C-4 and C-28 in the antimalarial activity in the same terpene skeleton.This review will attract the attention of medicinal chemists,and food scientists to optimize and rationalize the use of mushrooms both as unexploited sources of novel molecules and as nutraceuticals to treat two of the deadliest infectious diseases,malaria,and tuberculosis.

Physicochemical and structural properties of starches from non-traditional sources in China

In this study,we isolated starches from non-traditional sources,including quinoa,lentil,arrowhead,gorgon fruit,sorghum,chickpea,proso millet,and purple potato and investigated their morphology,physicochemical,and functional properties.Significant differences in starch particle morphology,swelling power,solubility,syneresis,crystalline pattern,and pasting viscosity were observed among the starches from these nontraditional sources.Further,all these isolated starches had unique properties because of their characteristic distinct granules when seen under scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The amylose content of the isolated starches shown significant difference(P<0.05),and the values ranged between 11.46%and 37.61%.Results demonstrated that the isolated starches contained between 79.82%to 86.56%starch,indicating that the isolated starches had high purity.X-ray diffraction(XRD)patterns of starches isolated from sorghum,proso millet,quinoa,purple potato,and gorgon fruit presented A-type diffraction pattern;while lentil seeds,arrowhead,and chickpea starches presented C-type diffraction pattern.Overall,these results will promote the development of products based on starch isolated from non-traditional starches.

A systematic study on mycochemical profiles, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities of 30 varieties of Jew’s ear(Auricularia auricula-judae)

The health-promoting properties and chemical profiles of 30 Jew’s ear mushroom varieties were investigated. The antioxidant properties were determined by ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging, 2,2’-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS) free radical scavenging, and metal chelating ability(MCA) assays, while phenolic profiles were determined by total phenol content(TPC) and total flavonoid content(TFC) colorimetric assays. Total carbohydrate, β-glucan, and melanin contents were determined by colorimetric methods. 5’-Nucleotides, vitamin D_(2), ergosterol, and ergothioneine contents were determined by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). Anti-inflammation activities of Jew’s ear were evaluated by the colorimetric protease inhibitory method. The results showed that Jew’s ear mushrooms possessed substantial phenolics and antioxidant properties. All the Jew’s ear varieties contain high amount of total carbohydrate, β-glucan, reducing sugar, melanin, pectin, vitamin D2, ergosterol, and ergothioneine. The current findings could provide scientific information for breeders to nurture desired varieties and for food industry to develop new health promoting products.

社区志愿服务常态化及其逻辑——基于L区的案例分析

志愿服务是社会文明程度的重要标识,推进志愿服务常态化是新时代发展志愿服务的必然要求。社区志愿服务与一般志愿服务所强调的公益性和国外志愿服务所强调的自主性具有明显不同,主要体现在它与治理性联系更加紧密,承担着“通过服务提升治理”的使命,因此要站在基层治理现代化的高度思考社区志愿服务常态化命题。对L区实践经验研究发现,社区志愿服务常态化是基层动员和再组织化的结果。具体而言,国家通过项目化运作、适配式对接和选择性激励三大举措嵌入志愿服务发展过程,动员社区建立志愿服务组织,推动基层社会再组织化。社区按照一定流程,引导居民结合具体空间和具体事务自我组织,并在居民骨干带动下,自主开展志愿服务,使社区志愿服务组织得以持续运转。可以说,社区志愿服务常态化的过程就是政府和社区合力推动居民再组织化的过程。居民再组织化与社区志愿服务常态化的逻辑关联就在于组织的五大特性,即组织形态具有内生性、组织骨干具有带动性、组织行动具有约束性、组织激励具有可行性、组织资源具有在地性,这与志愿服务常态化的要求相契合。深层次看,社区志愿服务常态化背后折射出的逻辑是“国家—社会”的联结。一方面,国家通过梯度型赋权机制培育社会、再造组织。政府通过供需适配和过程导向的项目制赋权社区,社区通过赋予居民需求表达权、骨干选举权和活动策划权,鼓励居民建立志愿服务组织。另一方面,社会通过组织化的形式与国家相联,促进社区志愿服务共同生产。由此,以再组织化为纽带,可以把政府、社区和居民都纳入志愿服务供给体系。这种发展方式契合了志愿服务有利于形成社会合作网络的本质,进而有助于建设人人有责、人人尽责、人人享有的社会治理共同体。

厘清党建引领城市社区治理有效性的内在逻辑是提升社区治理效能的前提。以构建党组织领导的社区治理共同体为目标导向,以政党与社会关系为内在依据,通过建构“政党功能—社会参与”的分析框架可以发现,党建引领城市社区治理的有效性取决于政党功能发挥度和社会力量参与度的高低配置状况。两者交叉形成了“放任型”“管控型”“自治型”和“引领型”四种治理模式,分别折射出了政党与社会无涉、政党整合社会、政党赋权社会、政党引领社会的潜藏逻辑。其中,“引领型”是最有效的模式,因为其能发挥政党功能激活社会参与,形成政党主导下的多元共治。为实现这种模式需要从赋权增能强化政党功能、广泛动员促进社会参与、寓党建于治理提升耦合度三个方面发力。深层次看,党建引领城市社区治理的有效性最终指向的是秩序与活力的平衡,党建引领的核心作用就在于解决这个二元性难题。

A critical review on phytochemical profile and health promoting effects of mung bean (Vigna radiata)

The seeds and sprouts of mung bean are very common cruise in Asia.Evidence showed that bioactive compounds in mung bean have emerged as an increasing scientific interest due to their role in the prevention of degenerative diseases.All data of in vitro,in vivo and clinical studies of mung bean and its impact on human health were collected from a library database and electronic search.Botanical,phytochemical and pharmacological information was gathered and orchestrated.Remarkable studies have been demonstrated,showing the enhancement of metabolites in mung bean during the sprouting process,which possesses various health benefiting bioactive compounds.These compounds have been frequently attributed to their antioxidant,anti-diabetic,antimicrobial,anti-hyperlipidemic and antihypertensive effect,anti-inflammatory,and anticancer,anti-tumor and anti-mutagenic properties.In this critical review,we aimed to study the insight of the nutritional compositions,phytochemistry,and healthpromoting effects of mung bean and its sprouts.The various curative potential of mung bean provides successive preclinical outcomes in the field of drug discovery and this review strongly recommends that mung bean is an excellent nutritive legume,which modulates or prevents chronic degenerative diseases.

氦气风机驱动电机是高温气冷堆一回路唯一能动设备,其安全性直接影响到高温气冷堆的安全稳定运行。针对高温高压环境及氦气传热工质对驱动电机风路结构设计及相关参数影响引发的新问题,通过建立双侧转子铁心三维风路结构流固耦合传热模型,计算分析了高温高压环境下传热工质氦气在转子径向风沟内的流动特性,研究了转子分别在动态和静态情况下,通风结构内流体流动规律及转子铁心和导条的温升变化规律。同时,对不同种类传热工质的对应规律进行了对比研究,搭建了模拟实验测试装置,实测数据与数值计算结果吻合较好,验证了计算分析结果的合理性和正确性,为氦气风机驱动电机转子风路结构优化、冷却性能的有效提升提供一定的理论参考。

High-throughput technologies in combination with modern exciting advancements in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and data analysis pipelines have empowered comprehensive characterization of disease phenotypes and their mechanistic regulation by dietary agents and bioactive molecules at unprecedented dimensionality and resolution. Extra-ordinary breakthroughs in the field of nutrigenomics have leveraged our understanding altogether to a new level of maturity. Interdisciplinary researchers have extensively analyzed health promoting and pharmacologically significant properties of garlic (Allium sativum). Importantly， garlic and its biologically active chemicals targeted oncogenic signaling cascades. In this mini-review we have attempted to summarize how garlic and its bioactive constituents regulated signal transduction cascades in cell culture studies and tumor-bearing mice.
