Yarn sensors have shown promising application prospects in wearable electronics owing to their shape adaptability, good flexibility, and weavability. However, it is still a critical challenge to develop simultaneously structure stable, fast response, body conformal, mechanical robust yarn sensor using full microfibers in an industrial-scalable manner. Herein, a full-fiber auxetic-interlaced yarn sensor(AIYS) with negative Poisson’s ratio is designed and fabricated using a continuous, mass-producible, structure-programmable, and low-cost spinning technology. Based on the unique microfiber interlaced architecture, AIYS simultaneously achieves a Poisson’s ratio of-1.5, a robust mechanical property(0.6 c N/dtex), and a fast train-resistance responsiveness(0.025 s), which enhances conformality with the human body and quickly transduce human joint bending and/or stretching into electrical signals. Moreover, AIYS shows good flexibility, washability, weavability, and high repeatability. Furtherly, with the AIYS array, an ultrafast full-letter sign-language translation glove is developed using artificial neural network. The sign-language translation glove achieves an accuracy of 99.8% for all letters of the English alphabet within a short time of 0.25 s. Furthermore, owing to excellent full letter-recognition ability, real-time translation of daily dialogues and complex sentences is also demonstrated. The smart glove exhibits a remarkable potential in eliminating the communication barriers between signers and non-signers.

Herein,a layer of molybdenum oxide(MoO_(x)),a transition metal oxide(TMO),which has outstanding catalytic properties in combination with a carbonbased thin film,is modified to improve the hydrogen production performance and protect the MoO_(x)in acidic media.A thin film of graphene is transferred onto the MoO_(x)layer,after which the graphene structure is doped with N and S atoms at room temperature using a plasma doping method to modify the electronic structure and intrinsic properties of the *** oxygen functional groups in graphene increase the interfacial interactions and electrical contacts between graphene and MoO_(x).The appearance of surface defects such as oxygen vacancies can result in vacancies in MoO_(x).This improves the electrical conductivity and electrochemically accessible surface *** the number of defects in graphene by adding dopants can significantly affect the chemical reaction at the interfaces and improve the electrochemical *** defects in graphene play a crucial role in the adsorption of H^(+)ions on the graphene surface and their transport to the MoO_(x)layer *** enables MoO_(x)to participate in the reaction with the doped graphene.N^(‐)and S^(‐)doped graphene(NSGr)on MoO_(x)is active in acidic media and performs well in terms of hydrogen *** initial overpotential value of 359 mV for the current density of−10 mA/cm^(2)is lowered to 228 mV after activation.

The study provides a baseline for the assessment of the organic and inorganic pollution specially, heavy metal contamination in the surface sediments of Pyeongchang River,South *** assessment of the study areas was done with respect to metal pollution load,ecological risk and geoaccumulated *** upon the used indices,a priority index(P) was used to rank the utmost contaminated *** the concentrations of mercury in all sediments were below the guideline, the significant enriched contamination was observed by all applied *** expected,the values of pollution load index(PLI),ecological risk index(RI) and geoaccumulation risk index(I) demonstrated lower heavy metal contamination in upstream areas compared to the downstream. Admittedly,sediments were unpolluted to slightly-polluted according to PLI while high to extremely high ecological risks were observed in several sediment ***,all the samples were uncontaminated as per *** simplification of I,the P,showed the utmost contaminated sediments with a value of ***,protective measures should be taken to the highly contaminated areas which are prioritized by PAdmittedly,the maximum concentrations of total organic carbon,total nitrogen,inorganic nitrogen,total phosphorous,inorganic phosphorous,calcium, magnesium,sodium and potassium were significantly observed as 7.8×10~4,3,185,36,1,032,3.7, 1,5163,2,881,669 and 4,076mg/kg accordingly.

Out of damage from natural disasters in recent decade, more than 60% is due to typhoon in Korea, and yearly damage has exceeded 10 billion USD as urbanization and development continue. Many local areas are affected by climate extremes such as typhoons and flash flood and great amount of coastal areas are exposed to flood risk by typhoon related winds and storm surges. These climatic impacts are expected to be severer and eventually impede development of the region. The main reasons for the high vulnerability to natural disaster are that great number of local cities are located in low land and vulnerable region and highly populated. As a scientific effort on disaster prevent and disaster risk reduction, statistical estimations of risk and regional vulnerability have been carried out. Typhoon trajectory is estimated from statistically method to determine the typhoon approaching region of interest and risk is also estimated from physical modeling of rainfall rate and wind speed, while regional vulnerability is statistically modeled from damage data of properties. This paper describes the development of typhoon risk assessment and application to Asia countries including Republic of Korea using Web GIS based technology. The system would be able to help decision makers to take informed actions during emergency situations of an approaching tropical cyclone.

Spatio-temporal change in forest cover and carbon storage considering actual and potential forest cover in South Korea

This study analyzes change in carbon storage by applying forest growth models and final cutting age to actual and potential forest cover for six major tree species in South Korea. Using National Forest Inventory data, the growth models were developed to estimate mean diameter at breast height, tree height, and number of trees for Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida, Larix kaempferi, Castanea crenata and Quercus spp. stands. We assumed that actual forest cover in a forest type map will change into potential forest covers according to the Hydrological and Thermal Analogy Groups model. When actual forest cover reaches the final cutting age, forest volume and carbon storage are estimated by changed forest cover and its growth model. Forest volume between 2010 and 2110 would increase from 126.73 to 157.33 m3 hm-2. Our results also show that forest cover, volume, and carbon storage could abruptly change by 2060. This is attributed to the fact that most forests are presumed to reach final cutting age. To avoid such dramatic change, a regeneration and yield control scheme should be prepared and implemented in a way that ensures balance in forest practice and yield.

Adrenal lymphangioma masquerading as a pancreatic tail cyst

Cystic lymphangiomas of the adrenal gland are rare. A 79-year-old female presented in the emergency room with epigastric discomfort, and an immovable mass was palpated in her abdomen upon physical examination. Imaging studies revealed a large cystic lesion in the pancreatic tail. The radiologic impression ruled out the possibility of a mucinous cystic neoplasm, or a pseudocyst in the pancreas. The operative findings demonstrated that the cystic mass originated in the left adrenal gland. A laparoscopic excision of the cystic mass was performed, and immunohistochemistry confirmed that this mass was a lymphangioma of the adrenal gland. Several prior reports have suggested that lymphangioma can mimic renal or splenic cysts. However, lymphangioma cases mimicking pancreatic cysts are very rare.

Mechanical Ventilation Strategy for Subway Cabins Using Numerical Simulations

Seoul metropolitan subway network is known to be the one of the most heavily used transportation means in the world. The subway cabins are naturally ventilated when the cabin doors are opened and through the gaps caused by the incomplete air-tightening of cabin bodies. Although, subway trains are equipped with a mechanical exhaust fan, the apparatus is rarely operated due to the problem of heating/cooling efficiency especially in the summer and winter seasons. In this study, we analyzed the transient CO2 (carbon dioxide) concentration level during the journey of a subway cabin when a heavy load of passengers of up to 200% of designed capacity using a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis. With an increased journey time, the CO2 concentration increased by up to 5,000 ppm depending on passenger load. Through the operation of a mechanical exhaust fan, the high concentration of CO2 decreased down to 1,500 ppm. The effect of the exhaust fan operating on the dilution of indoor air was estimated by comparison with a closed cabin. In addition, the energy consumption for cooling in summer time was assessed for exhaust fan operations.
