Objective Toxic metal ions have been implicated in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO). metallothionines (mT) and plant flavonoids have been reported in the intervention against oxidative damage. We investigated the effect of zinc induced mT and green tea polyphenol (GTp) in reducing the oxidative responses induced by nickel and platinum. methods Zinc (10 mg/kg b. wt, sc) was administered to rats twice at a gap of 24hrs and GTp (10 mg/100 mL in drinking water) was fed ad libitum for 8 days. Nickel chloride (150 umol/***, ip) and cisplatin (50 mmol/kg ***, sc) was administered to rats 24 h after Zn or GTp pre-treatment. Animals of all the groups were sacrificed 16 hrs after treatment and biochemical markers for toxicity were monitored. Results Zinc or GTp pre-treatment caused significant protection against nickel or cisplatin enhanced mortality in rats, and reduction in lipid peroxidation and NO. Conclusion It is proposed that inhibition of ROS and NO by GTp and zinc may prove useful as a selective pharmacological agent in the amelioration of metal toxicity.

bACKGROUND: micturition syncope is a relatively uncommon cause of sudden and temporary loss of consciousness. most prevalent in older males, this condition is extremely rare in women. CASES: Two pregnant women presented with recurrent syncope. The syncopal events were more common in the early morning and were precipitated by the presence of a distended bladder, urinary urgency, assuming a standing position after either being supine or sitting, or associated with travel motion. Extensive neurology and cardiology evaluations were negative, and the events were considered consistent with micturition syncope. both patients responded favorably to conservative voiding behavior modification measures throughout the remainder of pregnancy. CONCLUSION: micturition syncope during pregnancy may not be a rare occurrence. This potentially dangerous condition is amenable to voiding behavior modification measures.

The water and dissolved pollutant runoffs on impervious surfaces are the essential factor to be considered in design methods to minimize the impacts of the diffuse water pollution. In this paper, experiments are conducted to study the water and dissolved pollutant runoffs on impervious surfaces for different rainfall intensities and surface roughnesses. It is shown that a larger rainfall intensity and a smaller surface roughness reduce the time of concentration and increase the pollutant transport rate. most of the pollutant runoffs take place at the initial stage of the rainfall. The pollutant transport rate rapidly reaches a peak and then gradually drops to zero.

Occupant-centric control (OCC) strategies rely on different algorithms to learn and predict occupants’ patterns and preferences, then utilize these predictions to optimize building operations. However, testing different OCC algorithms or fine-tuning their configurations in real buildings can be a lengthy process. To this end, we present a framework for testing OCCs in a simulation environment prior to field implementation. The proposed workflow entails using synthetic occupant behaviour models and simulating OCC strategies to learn their preferences. The goal is to enable quick comparison of different OCC configurations under various scenarios by modifying occupant behaviour assumptions, as well as climate and design parameters. For proof-of-concept, the proposed method was applied in a case-study to simulate OCCs for lighting and heating/cooling setpoint adjustments in a single office under various occupant types, as well as OCC settings and design configurations. Results demonstrated the benefits of the proposed framework and its potential for providing a more holistic evaluation of OCCs under different scenarios. Using the proposed framework, building designers and operators can identify potential issues with OCCs and fine-tune their settings prior to field implementation.

The bronchogenic cyst, a congenital pulmonary malformation of often late revelation is rare. Its clinical manifestation, depending on the size of the cyst and its location, is dominated by respiratory symptoms. We report a case of a bronchogenic cyst in a 23-month-old infant treated with salbutamol combined with corticosteroid therapy for a third episode of breathing difficulty and wheezing. A chest X-ray and CT scan guided the diagnosis. Histological confirmation was made on an operative specimen after removal of the cyst. The immediate and mid-term outcome was good.

Solar energy is regarded as one of the promising renewable energy sources in the *** main aim of this study is to use the Taguchi-Grey relational grade analysis to optimize the performance of two Solar Air Heaters(SAHs).A typical Grey–Taguchi method was *** Orthogonal Array,Signal-to-Noise ratio,Grey Relational Grade,and Analysis of Variance were employed to investigate the performance characteristics of *** observations were made in agreement with Jordanian climate 32°00′N latitude and 36°00′E longitude with a solar intensity of 500 W\m^(2).The operating factors selected for optimization are the tilt angle(T)with three levels(0°,22°,45°),inlet velocity(V)with two levels(1.2,1.8 m/s),and absorber plate material(m)with two levels(Aluminum,wood).In this study,the Grey–Taguchi approach is validated by performing 12 individual *** results show that the process factors sequence required for a maximum SAH efficiency(SAHµ)is V>T>*** this approach,we combined the Orthogonal Array design with Grey Relational *** a result of that,the level of each operating conditions which optimizes both process responses(Temperature difference,ΔT and Solar air heater efficiency,SAHµ)can be specified with a minimum number of tests compared with classic Grey Relational *** optimal operating conditions of a SAH for multiple performance characteristics are determined as T2,m2,and V2,respectively,which are in congruence with the experimental results.

Introduction: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) linked to HIV infection is accompanied by auto-immune phenomena. Autoimmune diseases can develop in people living with HIV, most in a context of good immunological control (vasculitis, anti-phospholipid syndrome). Since the advent of antiretroviral therapy, an increasing number of autoimmune connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, and syndromes of Sj?gren and scleroderma have been reported. purpose: To describe this association’s not very common scleroderma and HIV infection. Observation: We report the case of a 56-year-old lady admitted into the service for functional impotence that would have been evolving for a week. prior to her hospitalization, she presented edemas of the lower limbs associated with anesthesia of the lower limbs for 5 months. The painting is accompanied by a productive cough and an intermittent fever. At the physical examination a weight loss (bmI = 13.74 Kg/m2), fever (38.7°C): Oral candidiasis, lower lip ulceration, perlicking, undernutrition folds, sclerodactyly and homogeneous hepatomegaly was noted. The diagnosis of immunosuppression to HIV Stage 3 with Tb co-morbidity and positive hepatitis b Serology was retained while diffuse Scleroderma was selected from the ACR/EULAR criteria of 2012 with a score of 10 (sclerodactyly = 4 point;raynaud’s phenomenon = 3 point and Ac Anti Scl 70 positive = 3 point). Conclusion: These associations of chronic pathology must be described to improve the future treatment of our patients.

background:Zoonotic schistosomiasis,caused by Schistosoma japonicum,remains a major public health problem in the *** study aimed to evaluate the commercially available rapid diagnostic point-of-care circulating cathodic antigen(pOC-CCA)test in detecting individuals infected with *** in a human cohort from an endemic area for schistosomiasis japonica in the ***:Clinical samples were collectedin 18 barangays endemic for *** infection in Laoang and palapag municipalities,Northern Samar,the philippines,in *** presence of CCA in flter-concentrated urine samples(n=412)was evaluated using the commercial kits and the results were converted to images,which were further analyzed by ImageJ software to calculate R *** diagnostic performance of the immunochromatographic pOCCCA test was compared using the Kato-Katz(KK)procedure,in-house enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISAs)and droplet digital(dd)pCR assays as ***:The pOC-CCA test was able to detect ***-infected individuals in the cohort with an eggs per gram of faeces(EpG)more than or equal to 10 with sensitivity/specifcity values of 63.3%/93.3%.However,the assay showed an inability to diagnose schistosomiasis japonica infections in all cohort KK-positive individuals,of which the majority had an extremely low egg burden(EpG:1–9).The prevalence of *** infection in the total cohort determined by the pOC-CCA test was 12.4%,only half of that determined by the KK method(26.2%).When compared with the ELISAs and ddpCR assays as a reference,the pOC-CCA assay was further shown to be a test with low ***,the assay exhibited signifcant positive correlations with egg burden determined by the KK technique and the target gene copy number index values determined by the ddpCR assays within the entire ***:by using in silico image analysis,the pOC-CCA cassette test could be converted to a quantitative assay to avoid reader
