Tongue thickness in health vs cirrhosis of the liver:Prospective observational study

bACkGROUNDMalnutrition affects 40%-90% of patients with cirrhosis of the liver. L3 skeletalmuscle index (L3SMI) is presently accepted as the most objective and quantitativemeasure available for sarcopenia, a surrogate marker of malnutrition. L3SMIapplication is, however, limited by non-availability of computed tomographyscanning in remote areas, cost, need for extensive training, and the risk ofexposure to radiation. Therefore, an alternative dependable measure with wideravailability is needed. Malnutrition causes sarcopenia not only in skeletal musclesbut also in other muscular structures such as the psoas muscle, diaphragm andtongue. We therefore hypothesised that the tongue, being easily accessible forinspection and for measurement of thickness using ultrasonography, may be usedto document *** measure and compare tongue thickness in healthy individuals and in patientswith cirrhosis of the liver and to study its correlation with conventionalprognostic scores for patients with cirrhosis of the *** thickness was measured using ultrasonography. One hundred twentysubjects of either gender aged 18 to 65 years were studied, with 30 subjects in eachgroup. The tongue thickness was compared between groups based on “ChildTurcotte Pugh” (CTP) scores. The correlations between measured tonguethickness and “Model for end stage liver disease” (MELD) score and between age and measured tongue thickness were also *** tongue thickness (mean ± SD) in patients with CTP class A, b and C was4.39 ± 0.39 cm, 4.19 ± 0.53 cm, and 3.87 ± 0.42, respectively, and was 4.33 ± 0.49 cmin normal healthy individuals. Neuroprotective role of 17βestradiol with tachykinin neuropeptide Nkb and Aβ(25 - 35) in aging female rat brain

The brain experiences structural, molecular and functional alterations during aging. In aging brain tissue, the oxidative stress increases due to decreased activity of antioxidant enzymes and increased oxidative stress leading to neurodegeneration associated with excitotoxicity. In the present study, we observed the effect of tachykinin neuropeptide Neurokinin b (Nkb) and amyloid beta fragment Aβ (25 -?35) on the activity of Acetylcholine esterase (AChE) and Lipid peroxidation (LPO) in brains of 17β estradiol (E2) treated aging female rat synaptosomes of different age groups. An in-vitro incubation of E2 treated brain synaptosomes with Aβ (25 -?35) showed toxic effects on all the parameters. The treatment of Nkb and combined Nkb and Aβ (25 -?35) increased the AChE enzyme activity and decreased the level of LPO in E2 treated aging rats. The treatment of Nkb and combined Nkb and Aβ (25 - 35) in a concentration dependent manner reversed the effects of aging and Aβ (25 -?35) on AChE and LPO. The present finding suggests that E2 along with Nkb reverse aging and Aβ (25 -?35) induced toxicity as well as AChE and LPO levels. The results of the current study showed a possible beneficial role of Nkb with E2 inthe age related neurological diseases.

Aging is the leading risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases and oxidative stress involved in the pathophysiology of these diseases. These changes increase during menopausal condition in females when the level of estradiol is decreased. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of tachykinin neuropeptide, Neurokinin b (Nkb) and Amyloid beta fragment Aβ (25 -?35) on 17β estradiol (E2) treated aging female rat synaptosomes of different age groups. Aging brain functions were assayed by measuring the activities of antioxidant enzymes—superoxide dismutase (SOD) and monoamine oxidase (MAO) with neuropeptides. An in-vitro incubation of Aβ (25 -?35) in E2 treated brain synaptosomes showed toxic effects on all the parameters. However, Nkb and Nkb combined with Aβ (25 35) showed stimulating effects in E2 treated rat brain synaptosomes. In the present study, an increase in activity of SOD and decrease in the level of MAO, in the presence of Nkb and combined Nkb and Aβ in E2 treated brain synaptosomes of aging rats. This study elucidates that treatment of Nkb and Aβ with E2 incombination exerts more protective influence than their individual application, against excitotoxicity in age related changes.

Therapeutic Potential of 17βEstradiol with Tachykinin Neuropeptide Nkb and Aβ(25 - 35) on Na+- k+ATPase Activity in Aging Female Rat brain

The Na+ - k+ ATPase is an enzyme responsible for the active transport of Na+ and k+ in most eukaryotic cells. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of Tachykinin neuropeptide, Neurokinin b (Nkb) and Amyloid beta fragment Aβ (25 - 35) on 17β estradiol (E2) treated aging female rat brain synaptosomes of different age groups, by assaying Na+ - k+ ATPase enzyme activity. An in vitro incubation of isolated synaptosomes with Aβ (25 - 35) showed toxic effects while Nkb showed stimulating effect on the Na+ - k+ ATPase activity, and the combined Nkb + Aβ (25 - 35) incubations showed a partial effect as compared to the Aβ (25 - 35) alone. To understand whether E2 affects the expression of Na+ - k+ ATPase molecules, we examined the expression of Na+ - k+ ATPase subunit α1 and β2 in E2 treated aging female rat brain synaptosomes. The enzyme was quantified by SDS PAGE in control and E2 treated rat brain. We observed that the expression of α1 and β2 Na+ - k+ ATPase molecules increased and reversed to a normal level in E2 treated synaptosomes. These results confirmed that E2 increased turnover of Na+ - k+ ATPase molecules in aging rat brain. The present findings also suggest a possible role of Nkb with E2 in the age related changes in the brain.

Recombination hot spots,caused by meiosis,are considered playing crucial roles in crop domestication and *** peanut is one of the most staple,rich-source of oil and protein ***,no direct scale of recombination events and hot spots have been estimated for peanut *** examine the scale of recombination events and hot spots in peanut,we constructed a genetic map using a recombinant inbred line(RIL) population including 200 lines with 605 631 markers detected using the specific-locus amplified fragment sequencing(SLAF-seq) approach and 49 natural cultivars with 61 942 insertion-deletion(InDels) markers detected using the transcriptome sequencing,*** precise integrated map comprised 4 837 SLAF markers with a total genetic length of 2 915.46 cM,a density of 1.66 markers per *** average of 30.0 crossover(c.2.06 cM/Mb) events was detected per F peanut plant,which is similar to the values in Arabidopsis and *** crossover events showed uneven distribution among b sub-genome(with average of 2.32) and A sub-genome(with average of 1.85).There were 4.34%and 7.86%of the genome contained large numbers of crossovers(>50 cM/Mb) along chromosomes in F population and natural population,*** density of crossover events region called recombination hot spots,showed negative relationship to marker haplotypes conservative region but positive to heatmap of *** genes located within the recombination hot spot regions by gene ontology(GO) categories showed responses to environmental stimuli,suggesting that recombination plays a crucial role in peanut adaptation to changing environments.

Preliminary Study of Agricultural Waste as biochar Incorporated into Cementitious Materials

本文研究了不同浓度的工业蒸馏废液对热带和亚热带常见的三种多用途树种:儿茶(Acacia catechu)、印度黄檀(Dalbergia sissoo)和桑树(Morus alba)种子发芽的影响。影响效果是通过工业蒸馏废液的浓度和种子的不同活力指标来进行研究的,如发芽率,发芽值(germination value)和与对照相比发芽的减少数量等指标。这种工业蒸馏废液的特性是强酸性、高bOD(生物耗氧量)、COD(化学需氧量)、TS(全干物),而DO(溶解氧)极低。较低的废液浓度(10%)促进所有三种树种的种子发芽。然而,高浓度(>10%)则抑制发芽,种子发芽率的高低与废液浓度的递增顺序的关系是>0%>10%<20%<40%<60%<80%。浓度为100%时无发芽的种子。试验结果表明,儿茶种子的抗性和活力比印度黄檀、桑树种子更强,与一般的灌溉用水相比浓度为10%的废液更适合种子发芽。

运用响应面分析法优化姬松茸液体发酵培养基中红糖和酵母膏浓度。结果表明,红糖浓度为20.24g/L、酵母膏浓度为2.055g/L时,菌丝体生物量最高,达2.279g/L;红糖浓度为20.8g/L、酵母膏浓度为2.23g/L时,胞外多糖产量最高,达0.749g/L。
