A variety of environmental media were analyzed for fallout radionuclides resulting from the Fukushima nuclear accident by the low background Facility (LbF) at the Lawrence berkeley National Laboratory (LbNL) in berkeley, CA. Monitoring activities in air and rainwater began soon after the onset of the March 11, 2011 tsunami and are reported here through the end of 2012. Observed fallout isotopes include 131I, 132I, 132te, 134Cs, 136Cs, and 137Cs. Isotopes were measured on environmental air filters, automobile filters, and in rainwater. An additional analysis of rainwater in search of 90Sr is also presented. Last, a series of food measurements conducted in September of 2013 are included due to extended media concerns of 134,137Cs in fish. Similar measurements of fallout from the Chernobyl disaster at LbNL, previously unpublished publicly, are also presented here as a comparison with the Fukushima incident. All measurements presented also include natural radionuclides found in the environment to provide a basis for comparison.

Ontogenetic shifts in perceptions of safety along structural complexity gradients in a territorial damselfish

Age and body size can influence predation risk and hence habitat use. Many species undergo ontogenetic shifts in habitat use as individuals grow larger and have different age-specific predation pressures. On coral reefs, a number of fish species are more tolerant of threats in structurally complex habitats that contain more refuges than in less structurally complex habitats. However, we do not know how risk perception varies with age, and whether age interacts with habitat complexity. Adults and juveniles, because of their size, may face different risks in structurally simple versus complex habitats. We used flight initiation distanee as a metric to analyze perceptions of risk in a species of damselfish Stegastes nigricans. All else being equal, fish fleeing at greater distances are inferred to perceive higher risk. We targeted juvenile and adult damselfish to assess whether there are ontogenetic shifts in perceptions of safety in relation to structural complexity, inferred based on percent coral cover and rugosity. We found that adult damselfish tolerated closer approach in more complex habitats as measured by percent coral cover, but not rugosity, whereas juvenile fish always allowed closer approach than adult fish regardless of complexity. this ontogenetic shift in habitat use may result from juvenile fish taking bigger risks to maximize growth, whereas older animals, who are closer to their maximum body size, can afford to take fewer risks and protect their assets.

the size effects of the critical behaviors for the systems of interacting spins are discussed extensively *** this paper,the finite-size dependence of the critical temperature and susceptibility of the ferroelectric thinfilm are investigated numerically based on the four-state Potts model with the nearest-neighbor interactions between thedipole *** four orientations of the domains exist in the ferroelectric film and the movement of the domainwalls determines the polarization switching process besides the boundary conditions of the *** critical exponentsare obtained and our investigations show that the boundary conditions play the important roles for the ferroelectricproperties of the thin films and the critical behavior of the thin films strongly depends on the feature of the surface.

When exposed to intense electromagnetic fields, the quantum vacuum is expected to exhibit properties of a polarizable medium akin to a weakly nonlinear dielectric material. Various schemes have been proposed to measure such vacuum polarization effects using a combination of high- power lasers. Motivated by several planned experiments, we provide an overview of experimental signatures that have been suggested to confirm this prediction of quantum electrodynamics of real photon–photon scattering.

In this work,we propose a stateless blockchain called CompactChain,which compacts the entire state of the UtXO(Unspent transaction Output)based blockchain systems into two RSA *** first accumulator is called transaction Output(tXO)commitment which represents the tXO *** second one is called Spent transaction Output(StXO)commitment which represents the StXO *** this work,we discuss three algorithms:(i)to update the tXO and StXO commitments by the *** miner also provides the proofs for the correctness of the updated commitments;(ii)to prove the transaction’s validity by providing a membership witness in tXO commitment and non-membership witness against StXO commitment for a coin being spent by a user;(iii)to update the witness for the coin that is not yet spent;the experimental results evaluate the performance of the CompactChain in terms of time taken by a miner to update the commitments and time taken by a validator to verify the commitments and validate the *** compare the performance of CompactChain with the existing state-of-the-art works on stateless *** shows a reduction in commitments update complexity and transaction witness size which inturn reduces the mempool size and propagation latency without compromising the system throughput(transactions per second(tPS)).

In the present paper, Lie group symmetry method is used to obtain some exact solutions for a hyperbolic system of partial differential equations （PDEs）, which governs an isothermal no-slip drift-flux model for multiphase flow problem. those sym- metries are used for the governing system of equations to obtain infinitesimal transforma- tions, which consequently reduces the governing system of PDEs to a system of ODEs. Further, the solutions of the system of ODEs which in turn produces some exact solutions for the PDEs are presented. Finally, the evolutionary behavior of weak discontinuity is discussed.

Hepatic malignancy is a major indication for liver transplantation;however,post-tra ns plant cancer recurrence is an emerging clinical challenge affecting long-term ***-tra ns plant tumor biology,staging,and post-transplant immunosuppression regimens have been elucidated as risk factors for recurrent liver ***,increasing evidence indicates that hepatic ischemia and reperfusion(IR)injury to allografts are crucial to providing a favorable immunologic microenvironment for cancer cell invasiveness and metastasis after liver *** association of severe graft injury in marginal grafts,such as small-for-size or fatty grafts,with lower recurrence-free survival rates in living donor liver transplantations,substantiates the correlation between hepatic IR injury and cancer *** has been demonstrated to trigger intrahepatic immunological microenvironment remodeling,including pro-inflammatory responses exacerbating graft injury and anti-inflammatory responses promoting tissue ***,the role of regional immunity in post-transplant cancer recurrence is not comprehensively *** review describes the up-to-date evidence of the intrahepatic humoral microenvironment and regional regulatory immunological microenvironment induced by IR injury,as well as their roles in cancer recurrence after liver transplantation.A comprehensive understanding of regional immunity will provide novel precise diagnostic,therapeutic,and prognostic strategies for post-transplant cancer recurrence.

Li et al. (2015) claim that it is sufficient to use two harmonic functions to express the general solution of Stokes equations. In this paper, we demonstrate that this is not true in a general case and that we in fact need three scalar harmonic functions to represent the general solution of Stokes equations (Venkatalaxmi et al., 2004).
