In their seminal papers Hanahan and Weinberg described oncogenic processes a normal cell undergoes to be transformed into a cancer *** functions of ion channels in the gastrointestinal(gi)tract influence a variety of cellular processes,many of which overlap with these hallmarks of *** this review we focus on the roles of the calcium(Ca^2+),sodium(Na^+),potassium(K^+),chloride(Cl^-)and zinc(Zn^2+)transporters in gi cancer,with a special emphasis on the roles of the KCNQ1 K+channel and CFTR Cl-channel in colorectal cancer(CRC).Ca^2+is a ubiquitous second messenger,serving as a signaling molecule for a variety of cellular processes such as control of the cell cycle,apoptosis,and *** members of the TRP superfamily,including TRPM8,TRPM7,TRPM6 and TRPM2,have been implicated in gi cancers,especially through overexpression in pancreatic adenocarcinomas and down-regulation in colon ***-gated sodium channels(VGSCs)are classically associated with the initiation and conduction of action potentials in electrically excitable cells such as neurons and muscle *** VGSC NaV1.5 is abundantly expressed in human colorectal CRC cell lines as well as being highly expressed in primary CRC *** have demonstrated that conductance through NaV1.5 contributes significantly to CRC cell invasiveness and cancer ***2+transporters of the ZIP/SLC39A and ZnT/SLC30A families are dysregulated in all major gi organ cancers,in particular,ZIP4 up-regulation in pancreatic cancer(PC).More than 70 K+channel genes,clustered in four families,are found expressed in the gi tract,where they regulate a range of cellular processes,including gastrin secretion in the stomach and anion secretion and fluid balance in the intestinal *** distinct types of K+channels are found dysregulated in the gi *** are hERG1 upregulation in PC,gastric cancer(GC)and CRC,leading to enhanced cancer angiogenesis and invasion,and KCNQ1 down-regulation in CR

As electric vehicle(EV)sales grew approximately 50%year-over-year,surpassing 3.2 million units in 2020,the“roaring era”of EV is around the *** meet the increasing demand for low cost and high energy density batteries,anode-free configuration,with no heavy and voluminous host material on the current collector,has been proposed and further ***,it always suffers from several non-negligible“bottlenecks”,such as fragile solid electrolyte interface,deteriorated cycling reversibility,and uncontrolled dendrite *** by the“compensatory effect”of some disabled people with other specific functions strengthened to make up for their inconvenience,corresponding quasi-compensatory measures after anode removal,involving dimensional compensation,SEI robustness compensation,lithio-philicity compensation,and lithium source compensation,have been carried out and achieved significant battery performance *** this review,the chemistry,challenges,and rationally designed“quasi-compensatory effect”associated with anode-free lithium-ion battery are systematically discussed with several possible R&D directions that may aid,direct,or facilitate future research on lithium storage in anode-free configuration essentially emphasized.

Temporal dynamics of phytoplankton communities in a semi-enclosed mariculture pond and their responses to environmental factors

Variations in physical-chemical factors, species composition, abundance and biomass of nano-and micro-phytoplankton assemblages, as well as their responses to environmental factors, were investigated over a complete cycle (6 months) in a semi-enclosed shrimp-farming pond near Qingdao, northern China. The aim was to establish the temporal patterns of phytoplankton communities and to evaluate protists as suitable bioindicators to water quality in mariculture systems. A total of 34 taxa with nine dominant species were identified, belonging to six taxonomic groups (dinoflagellates, diatoms, cryptophyceans, chlorophyceans, euglenophyceans and chrysophyceans). A single peak of protist abundance occurred in October, mainly due to chlorophyceans, diatoms and chrysophyceans. Two biomass peaks in July and October were primarily due to dinoflagellates and diatoms. Temporal patterns of the phytoplankton communities significantly correlated with the changes in nutrients, temperature and pH, especially phosphate, either alone or in combination with NO3-N and NH3-N. Species diversity, evenness and richness indices were clearly correlated with water temperature and/or salinity, whereas the biomass/abundance ratio showed a significant correlation with NO3-N. The results suggest that phytoplankton are potentially useful bioindicators to water quality in semi-enclosed mariculture systems.

High-purity Nd metal was recovered from waste Nd–Fe–b magnet by the molten salt electrowinning process with chemical pretreatment. X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, energy dispersive spectroscopy（EDS）, cyclic voltammetry（CV）,chronopotentiometry（CP）, and inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer（ICP/AES） were used to characterize the deposit and electrochemical behaviors. The results show that NdF_3 is effectively synthesized from the Nd–Fe–b magnet using HCl solution and NH4F. During the chemical treatment of the waste magnet,iron impurity is eliminated as a soluble [NH4]3[FeF6]complex. Electrowinning using NdF_3 in LiF molten salt shows that Nd metal is deposited from the electrolyte onthe cathode at the reduction potentials ranging from-1.48to-1.35 V（vs. W） with the concentration change of NdF_*** final purity of Nd metal deposit is higher than99.78 %.

The effects of brassinosteroid signaling on shoot and root development have been characterized in great detail but a simple consistent positive or negative impact on a basic cellular parameter was not *** this study,we combined digital 3D single-cell shape analysis and single-cell mRNA sequencing to charac-terize root meristems and mature root segments of brassinosteroid-blind mutants and wild *** resul-tant datasets demonstrate that brassinosteroid signaling affects neither cell volume nor cell proliferation ***,brassinosteroid signaling is essential for the precise orientation of cell division planes and the extent and timing of anisotropic cell ***,we found that the cell-aligning effects of brassinosteroid signaling can propagate to normalize the anatomy of both adjacent and distant brassinosteroid-blind cells through non-cell-autonomous functions,which are sufficient to restore growth ***,single-cell transcriptome data discern directly brassinosteroid-responsive genes from genes that can react non-cell-autonomously and highlight arabinogalactans as sentinels of brassinosteroid-dependent anisotropic cell expansion.

Metachronous bile duct cancer nine years after resection of gallbladder cancer

We report a rare case of a 74-year-old man with metachronous gallbladder cancer and bile duct cancer who underwent curative resection twice, with the operations nine years apart. At the age of 65 years, the patient underwent a cholecystectomy and resection of the liver bed for gallbladder cancer. This was a welldifferentiated adenocarcinoma, with negative resection margins （T2NOM0, stage Ⅰ b）. Nine years later, during a follow-up examination, abdominal computed tomography and MRCP showed an enhanced 1.7 cm mass in the hilum that extended to the second branch of the right intrahepatic bile duct. We diagnosed this lesion as a perihilar bile duct cancer, bismuth type Ⅲ a, and performed bile duct excision, right hepatic Iobectomy and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy. The histological diagnosis was a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma with one regional lymph node metastasis （TINIM0, stage Ⅱ b）. Twelve months after the second operation, the patient is well, with no signs of recurrence. This case is compared with 11 other cases of metachronous biliary tract cancer published in the world medical literature.

Objective:To investigate the effects of an ethanol extract of Kalopanax septemlobus(Thunb.)***(EEKS) on cell proliferation in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells and its mechanisms of ***:Cells were treated with EEKS and subsequently analyzed for cell proliferation and flow cytometry *** of cell cycle regulators were determined by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis and Western blotting,and activation of eyclin-associaled kinases studied using kinase ***:The EEKS suppressed cell proliferation in both HepG2 and Hep3 b cells,but showed a more sensitive anli-proliferative activity in HepG2 *** cytometry analysis revealed an association between the growth inhibitory effect of EEKS and with G_1 phase cell cycle arrest in HepG2 cells,along with the dephosphorylation of retinoblastoma protein(pRb) and enhanced binding of pRb with the E2 F transcription factor family *** with EEKS also increased the expression of cyclin-dependent kinase(CDK) inhibitors,such as p21WAF1/CIP1 and *** any noticeable changes in G_1 cyclins and CDKs(except for a slight decrease in CDK4).Treatment of HepG2 cells with EEKS also increased the binding of p21 and p27 with CDK4 and *** was paralleled by a marked decrease in the cyclin D- and cyclin E-associated kinase ***:Overall,our findings suggest that EEKS may be an effective treatment for liver cancer through suppression of cancer cell proliferation via G_1,cell cycle arrest Further studies arc required to identify the active compounds in EEKS.
