Korchmaros and Nagy [Hermitian codes from higher degree places. J Pure Appl Algebra, doi： 10. 1016/***.2013.04.002, 2013] computed the Weierstrass gap sequence G（P） of the Hermitian function field Fq2 （H） at any place P of degree 3, and obtained an explicit formula of the Matthews-Michel lower bound on the minimum distance in the associated differential Hermitian code cΩ（D, mP） where the divisor D is, as usual, the sum of all but one 1-degree Fq2-rational places of Fq2 （H） and m is a positive integer. For plenty of values of m depending on q, this provided improvements on the designed minimum distance of cΩ（D, mP）. Further improvements from G（P） were obtained by Korchmaros and Nagy relying on algebraic geometry. Here slightly weaker improvements are obtained from G（P） with the usual function-field method depending on linear series, Riemann-Roch theorem and Weierstrass semigroups. We also survey the known results on this subject.

baculoviruses constitute a large group of invertebrate DNA viruses, predominantly infecting larvae of the insect order Lepidoptera. During a baculovirus infection, the virus spreads throughout the insect body producing a systemic infection in multiple larval tissues, included the central nervous system (cNS). As a main component of the cNS, neuropeptides are small protein-like molecules functioning as neurohormones, neurotransmitters, or neuromodulators. These peptides are involved in regulating animal physiology and behavior and could be altered after baculovirus infection. In this study, we have investigated the effect of Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) infection on expression of Spodoptera exigua neuropeptides and neuropeptide-like genes. Expression of the gene encoding a polypeptide that resembles the well-known insect neuropeptide proctolin and named as proctolin-like peptide (PLP), was downregulated in the larval brain following infection and was chosen for further analysis. A recombinant Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) overexpressing the c-terminal part of the PLP was generated and used in bioassays using S. exigua larvae to study its influence on the viral infection and insect behavior. AcMNPV-PLP-infected larvae showed less locomotion activity and a reduction in growth compared to larvae infected with wild type AcMNPV or mock-infected larvae. These results are indicative of this new peptide as a neuromodulator that regulates visceral and skeletal muscle contractions and offers a novel effector involved in the behavioral changes during baculovirus infection.

Guided by the theoretical prediction,a new MAX phase V2Snc was synthesized experimentally for the first time by reaction of V,Sn,and c mixtures at 1000°*** chemical composition and crystal structure of this new compound were identified by the cross-check combination of first-principles calculations,X-ray diffraction(XRD),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),and high resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy(HR-STEM).The stacking sequence of V2c and Sn layers results in a crystal structure of space group P63/*** a-and c-lattice parameters,which were determined by the Rietveld analysis of powder XRD pattern,are 0.2981(0)nm and 1.3470(6)nm,*** atomic positions are V at 4f(1/3,2/3,0.0776(5)),Sn at 2d(2/3,1/3,1/4),and c at 2a(0,0,0).A new set of XRD data of V2Snc was also *** calculations suggest that this new compound is stable with negative formation energy and formation enthalpy,satisfied born-Huang criteria of mechanical stability,and positive phonon branches over the brillouin *** also has low shear deformation resistance c44(second-order elastic constant,cij)and shear modulus(G),positive cauchy pressure,and low Pugh’s ratio(G/b=0.500ch is regarded as a quasi-ductile MAX *** mechanism underpinning the quasi-ductility is associated with the presence of a metallic bond.

A study was conducted on cambisols in Northern Germany to analyze the effect of fast growing trees （Salix and Populus spp.） used in agroforestry on soil chemical and physical properties and also on endo- and ectomycorrhizal colonization of the fine roots. Representative plots of three trials, Giilzow （GUL）, Vipperow （VIP） and rostock （ros）, were used to measure the topsoil inventories at the very beginning and after six （GUL）, seven （VIP） and ten （ros） years of afforestation with fast growing trees. The effect on soil organic carbon, plant available nutrients, reaction, bulk density, porosity and water conditions was analyzed, Arable soils without tree coppice were used as controls. Additionally, the endoand ectomycorrhizal colonization of two Salix and two Populus clones were investigated at one site （GUL） in 2002. The amounts of organic carbon in the topsoil increased significantly （P 〈 0.01） presumably induced by leaf and root litter and also by the lack of tillage. The soil bulk density significantly decreased and the porosity of the soil increased significantly （both P 〈 0.01）. The proportion of medium pores in the soil also rose significantly （P 〈 0.05 and 0.01）. Generally, afforestation of arable soils improved soil water retention. Ectomycorrhizas dominated the mycorrhizal formation of the Salix and Populus clones, with the accumulation of organic matter in the topsoil suspected of supporting the ectomycorrhizal formation. Thus, agroforestry with Salix and Populus spp. conspicuously affected chemical and additionally physical properties of the top layer of cambisols within a period of six years.

background: Esophageal motility abnormalities have been observed in patients w ith gastroesophageal reflux disease. Goals:The aim of the present study was to d etermine if esophageal motor disorders in patients with a positive response to t he omeprazole test are related to the existence of reflux or they are concomitan t findings. Study: A 24-hour pH monitoring and a stationary manometry were perf ormed on 128 patients: 49 of them had normal manometry, 31 hypotensive lower eso phageal sphincter, 29 motor disorder in esophageal body, and 19 hypotensive lowe r esophageal sphincter and motor disorder in esophageal body. Results: We found an association between the presence of abnormal reflux and motor disorder in eso phageal body (χ2 test; Pctive esophageal motility was t he disorder most strongly related to reflux, where as the hypercontractile disor ders were not clearly attrib- uted to it. conclusions: Esophageal manometric abnor- malities should be considered cautiously before considering a motor disorder a s a consequence of abnormal reflux.

background: HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) may appear in patients with viral and immunological response to treatment and remain unnoticed during the initial stage of the infection. The goal of this study is to evaluate the development and/or progression of HAND in patients with undetectable viral load for more than ten years. Methods: We included adult HIV-infected patients who were under antiretroviral treatment and had undetectable plasma viral load for more than ten years (blips were included). These patients had already been subjected to neurocognitive evaluation five years previously. Demographic, clinical and analytical data were analysed. For the neurocognitive evaluation, the WAIS-III subtests (digit symbol coding and symbol search), trail making test (TMT) A and b, Stroop test and categorical verbal fluency (animals) tests were used. SPSS??version 22.0 for Windows was used for statistical analysis. Results: In this re-evaluation, performed 4.76 (±1.82) years after the first one, 9 (36%) patients showed deficits in processing speed (WAIS-III and TMT A), 8 (32%) executive function (TMT b and Stroop) and 12 (48%) verbal fluency. There were significant statistical differences between the past and current executive function tests (p = 0.029 and p = 0.01), highlighting worsening of deficits. No differences were found for the other tests. No association was found between deficit progression and the studied variables. conclusions: Although not generally noticed on regular appointments, in this small population, worsening of executive function deficits (mental flexibility and divided attention) was found. classical risk factors for HAND did not appear to interfere in its progression. Speed of information processing and categorical verbal fluency remained stable.

background: The production of endothelial-derived factors induces either vasoconstriction or vasodilation;nitric oxide (NO) is the most distinguished relaxing factor. Endothelial dysfunction is associated with hypertension. The partial loss in the NO-promoted vasodilation is due to its decreased bioavailability and/or to an activity reduction of endothelium NO synthase (eNOS). Reactive oxygen species (ros), present in oxidative stress, seize NO and diminish its bioavailability. Transresveratrol (RESV) has been proved to increase NO and eNOS levels. Thus, RESV could be capable of improving NO dependent vascular relaxation on aortic rings isolated from treated 2K-1c animals through ros damage reduction. Aim: Evaluate the effects of RESV treatment on the relaxation of aortic rings isolated from treated 2K-1c rats while focusing on the effects of the treatment on systolic blood pressure. Methods: Male Wistar rats (180 g) were grouped: two 2K-1c and two Sham groups, one of each was treated with RESV (20 mg/kg, gavage) dissolved in Tween 80 and one of each was treated with water plus Tween 80 (control) for six weeks. The rats had their systolic blood pressure (SbP) measured before and after the treatments. Vascular reactivity studies were conducted in order to observe and compare acetylcholine (Ach)-induced relaxations in the presence and absence of the NOS inhibitor L-NAME (10-4 mol/L). Results: SbP for 2K-1c was significantly reduced in the treated group (179.13 ± 4.90 mmHg, n = 23) when compared to the untreated group (196.66 ± 6.06 mmHg, n = 15, p c rings isolated from the 2K-1c treated group showed a higher efficacy (116.63% ± 1.72%, n = 12) than that from the untreated group (85.97% ± 0.69%, n = 6, p ble for a significant decrease in each group’s maximum relaxation efficacy. conclusions: SbP reduction observed after RESV treatment in rat renal hypertension could be due to the reestablishmen
