background Haloperidol is the most frequently prescribed antipsycbotic for delirium symptoms. The risk of QTc prolongation often raises concerns, although the effect of haloperidol on QTc interval has not yet been investigated in a randomised placebo-controlled fixed-dose study. methods A subanalysis of a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study was conducted to evaluate the effect of prophylactic haloperidol 1 mg or placebo 1 mg orally twice-daily （maximum of 14 doses） on QTc interval in patients aged 70 years and over. bedside, 12-lead ECGs were recorded before, during and after the one-week intervention period. Automatic QTc measurements were ob- tained in addition to manual measurements of QT and RR intervals, blinded for treatment status. manual measurements were corrected （QTc） using bazett （QTc-b）, Framingham （QTc-Fa）, Fridericia （QTc-Fi） and Hodges （QTc-H） methods. mixed model analyses were used to test for differences in longitudinal course of QTc between patients receiving haloperidol and placebo. Results ECG recordings of 72 patients （haloperidol n = 38） were analysed, 45.8% male. median （range） haloperidol serum concentration on day 4 was 0.71 （0.32-1.82） μg/L （n = 23）. Longitudinal course of mean QTc did not significantly differ between treatment arms for any of the automatic or manually derived QTc values. Conclusions Low dose oral haloperidol did not result in QTc prolongation in older acutely hospitalised patients. Results may not be generalizable to patients with existing ECG abnormalities such as atrial fibrillation.

Comparison between lighting performance of a virtual natural lighting solutions prototype and a real window based on computer simulation

This article discusses the measurement and simulation of a first generation prototype of Virtual Natural Lighting Solutions （VNLS）, which are systems that can artificially provide natural lighting as well as a realistic outside view, with properties comparable to those of real windows and skylights. Examples of employing Radiance as a simulation tool to predict the lighting performance of such solutions are shown, for a particular case study of a VNLS prototype displaying variations of a simplified view of overcast, clear, and partly cloudy skies. measurement and simulation were conducted to evaluate the iUuminance distribution on workptane level. The key point of this study is to show that simulations can be used to compare an actual VNLS prototype with a hypothetical real window under the same sky scenes, which was physically not possible, since the test room was not located at the building＇s facade. It is found that the investigated prototype yields a less rapidly drop iUuminance distribution and a larger average illuminance than the corresponding real window, under the overcast （52 lx compared to 28 lx） and partly cloudy （102 lx compared to 80 lx） sky scenes. Under the clear sky scene, the real window yields a larger averase illuminance （97 lx） compared to the prototype （71 lx）, due to the influence of direct sunlight.

present global maps of soil water retention(SWR)are mostly derived from pedotransfer functions(pTFs)applied to maps of other basic soil *** an alternative,'point-based'mapping of soil water content can improve global soil data availability and *** developed point-based global maps with estimated uncertainty of the volumetric SWR at 100,330 and 15000 cm suction using measured SWR data extracted from the WoSIS Soil profile Database together with data estimated by a random forest pTF(pTF-RF).The point data was combined with around 200 environmental covariates describing vegetation,terrain morphology,climate,geology,and hydrology using *** total,we used 7292,33192 and 42016 SWR point observations at 100,330 and 15000 cm,respectively,and complemented the dataset with 436108 estimated values at each *** cross-validation yielded a Root mean Square Error(RmSE)of6380,7.112 and 6.48510^(-2)cm^(3)cm^(-3),and a model Efficiency Coefficient(mEC)of0.430,0386,and 0.471,respectively,for 100,330 and 15000 *** results were also compared to three published global maps of SWR to evaluate differences between point-based and map-based mapping ***-based mapping performed better than the three map-based mapping approaches for 330 and 15000 cm,while for 100 cm results were similar,possibly due to the limited number of SWR observa-tions for 100 *** sources or uncertainty identified included the geographical clustering of the data and the limitation of the covariates to represent the naturally high variation of SWR.

Apatite-fission-track geochronology and its tectonic correlation in the Dabieshan orogen,central China

AFT data of granitoid and metamorphic samples from the Dabieshan orogen have an age range between 96.4 ma and 41.9 ma coupled with confined track lengths of 11.5—14.0 μm, reflecting the cooling time of rocks differentially through the 100℃± isotherm. The Juras- sic-Eogene sediments from the North Huaiyang and Hefei basin, however, yield their AFT ages of 128.8—62.0 ma with mean track lengths of 8.6—11.9 μm, recording a complicated thermal de- velopment of the basin. These AFT data structurally allowing the coupling between the orogen and the basin are to a great extent considered as the result from the control of NNE-trending regional tectonics. It took place approximately at 95—90 ma that the orogen developed with an abrupt shift from the doming extension to the differential transtension, which is assumed to be related with the changes of the convergence between the Western pacific and Eurasia plates. The differentially sinistral strike-slipping from the transtension between Tanlu and Shang- cheng-macheng faults brought the doming extension of the orogen shrunk sharply in Late Cre- taceous. In Eogene, the full-grown transtension that dominated in East Asia was caused mainly by a rapid decrease of the rates of the Western pacific convergence, which can be therefore re- garded as a major mechanism creating the zonal anomalies of 60—40 ma in the orogen. The thermal anomaly of 70—40 ma zonally along the Tanlu fault cooled more slowly than the anomaly of 60—55 ma zoning along the Shangcheng-macheng fault, but the 60—40 ma anomaly trending E-W in hinterlands of the orogen seems to be relicts of the doming extension as a result of inten- sive rebuilding by the transtension. In addition, the orogen was also reactivated by the far-field effect from India-Asia collision in Eogene, where major NWW-trending faults played an important role in facilitating such far-field tectonic transferring. The snowdrop lectin GNA （Galanthus nivalis agglutinin） has been shown to possess insecticidal activity to a range of economically important insect pests. However, the precise mechanism of insecticidal action of GNA against insects remains unknown. In this investigation, we attempted to purify and identify receptor（s） responsible for binding of GNA in the larval midgut of a major lepidopteran pest （the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis） to better understand its mode of action. Therefore, cytoplasmic as well as membrane proteins from 800 larval midguts were chromatographed on a column with immobilized GNA. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis of the proteins eluted from the GNA column followed by sequencing of the GNA-binding proteins and bLAST analyses revealed that the N-terminal sequences of a 24 kDa polypeptide purified from the cytoplasmic and membrane protein fraction revealed sequence similarity to sequences encoding heavy chain homologs of ferritin from manduca sexta （76% sequence identity）, Calpodes ethlius （80% sequence identity） and bombyx mori （61% sequence identity）. Furthermore, the N-terminal sequence of a 31 kDa polypeptide from the membrane protein fraction showed sequence similarity to a light chain homolog of ferritin from manduca sexta （88% sequence identity）.

Turbulent motions are believed to regulate angular momentum transport and influence dust evolution in protoplanetary *** the strength of turbulence is challenging through gas line observations because of the requirement for high spatial and spectral resolution data,and an exquisite determination of the *** this work,taking the well-known HD 163296 disk as an example,we investigated the contrast of gaps identified in high angular resolution continuum images as a probe for the level of *** self-consistent radiative transfer models,we simultaneously analyzed the radial brightness profiles along the disk major and minor axes,and the azimuthal brightness profiles of the b67 and b100 *** fitting all the gap contrasts measured from these profiles,we constrained the gas-to-dust scale height ratioΛto be 3.0^(+0.3)_(−0.8),1.2^(+0.1)_(−0.1),and≥6.5 for the D48,b67,and b100 regions,*** varying gas-to-dust scale height ratios indicate that the degree of dust settling changes with *** inferred values forΛtranslate into a turbulence level of α_(turb)b100 regions,which is consistent with previous upper limits set by gas line ***,turbulent motions in the b67 ring are strong with α_(turb)∼1.2×10^(−2).Due to the degeneracy betweenΛand the depth of dust surface density drops,the turbulence strength in the D86 gap region is not constrained.
