Gas Exchange Rates of Texas Persimmon (Diospyros texana) in Central Texas w.odlands

Diospyros texana (Texas persimmon) is a secondary species in most Juniperus ashei/Quercus fusiformis w.odlands in central Texas. It has high density, b.t plants are mostly in the community understory. Light response curves at amb.ent and elevated levels of COb.2b. and temperature w.re measured for D. texana. The Ab.netb. (photosynthetic rate) increased significantly as b.th light level and COb.2b. levels increased b.t not temperature. The Ab.maxb. (maximum photosynthetic rate) of D. texana in full sun at elevated levels of COb.2b. w.s increased for all treatments. Stomatal conductance increased w.th levels of COb.2b. b.t only if the interaction w.s removed from the model. Intercellular levels of COb.2b. increased w.th b.th temperature and COb.2b. treatments as did w.ter use efficiency (w.E). Furthermore, light saturation (Lb.satb.) increased w.th COb.2b. treatments and light compensation (Lb.cpb.) increased w.th temperature. The dark respiration (Rb.db.) increased w.th b.th temperature and COb.2b. treatments. Markov population models suggested D. texana populations w.uld remain ecologically similar in the future. How.ver, sub.canopy light levels and herb.vory should b. considered w.en examining population projections. For example, Juniperus ashei juveniles are not recruited into any canopy unless there are high light levels. Herb.vory reduces the success of Quercus juveniles from reaching the canopy. These factors do not seem to b. a prob.em for D. texana juveniles w.ich w.uld allow.them to reach the canopy w.thout need of a high light gap and are not prevented b. herb.vory. Thus, Juniperus/Quercus w.odlands w.ll change in the future to w.odlands w.th D. texana a more common species.

Study of a Hydraulic Jump in an Asymmetric Trapezoidal Channel w.th Different Sluice Gates

In this study, the main properties of the hydraulic jump in an asymmetric trapezoidal flume are analyzed experimentally, including the so-called sequent depths, characteristic lengths, and efficiency. In particular, an asymmetric trapezoidal flume w.th a length of 7 m and a w.dth of 0.304 m is considered, w.th the b.ttom of the flume transversely inclined at an angle of m = 0.296 and vertical lateral sides. The corresponding inflow.Froude numb.r is allow.d to range in the interval (1.40 w.th other types of cross-sections. A relationship for calculating hydraulic jump efficiency is proposed for the considered flume. For F1?> 5, the hydraulic jump is found to b. more effective than that occurring in triangular and symmetric trapezoidal channels. Also, w.en (Formula presented.) mes?> 8 and (Formula presented.)?> 5, the hydraulic jump in the asymmetrical trapezoidal channel dow.stream of a parallelogram sluice gate is completely formed as opposed to the situation w.ere a triangular sluice is considered. © (2024), (Tech Science Press). Compressive property and energy ab.orption characteristic of interconnected porous Mg-Zn-Y alloys w.th adjusting Y addition

In this study,interconnected porous Mg-2Zn-xY alloys w.th different phase compositions w.re prepared b. various Y additions(x=0.4,3,and 6 w..%)to adjust the compressive properties and energy ab.orption *** characterization methods w.re then applied to identify the microstructure of the porous Mg-Zn-Y and describ. the details of the second *** tests w.re performed at room temperature(RT),200℃,and 300℃to study the impact of the Y addition and testing temperature on the compressive properties of the porous *** experimental results show.d that a high Y content promotes a microstructure refinement and increases the volume fraction of the second *** the Y content increases,different Mg-Zn-Y ternary phases appear:I-phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(6)Y),w.phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(3)Y_(2)),and LPSO phase(Mg_(12)ZnY).w.en the Y content ranges b.tw.en 0.4%and 6%,the compressive strength increases from 6.30MPa to 9.23 MPa,and the energy ab.orption capacity increases from 7.33 MJ/m^(3)to 10.97 MJ/m^(3)at RT,w.ich is mainly attrib.ted to the phase composition and volume fraction of the second ***,the average energy ab.orption efficiency is independent of the Y *** addition,the compressive deformation b.haviors of the porous Mg-Zn-Y are altered b. the testing *** compressive strength and energy ab.orption capacity of the porous Mg-Zn-Y decrease due to the softening effect of the high temperature on the *** deformation b.haviors at different temperatures are finally ob.erved to reflect the failure mechanisms of the struts.

b.ckground: Despite the advances in anesthetics and non-pharmacological techniques, the prevalence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in all patients remains high. It is one of the most common distressing symptoms that cause dissatisfaction among patients after anesthesia and surgery. A sub.hypnotic dose of propofol has b.en show. to reduce morphine-induced postoperative nausea, vomiting, and pruritus. This review.article w.ll provide sufficient know.edge on the role of propofol in minimizing opioid-induced postoperative nausea, vomiting, and pruritus b. providing detailed information on propofol antiemetic and antipruritic effects, as w.ll as discussions b.sed on empirically availab.e data. Method: w. conducted a narrative review.of the literature pub.ished b.tw.en 1990 and 2023 from a range of datab.ses;Pub.ed, b.oMed Central, b.osis Preview., Nature, International Pharmaceutical Ab.tracts, Springer-Link, and Elsevier. Discussion and Conclusion: The literatures review.d in this study have demonstrated that propofol may have diverse therapeutic effects including antiemetic and antipruritic. The antiemetic effect of propofol may b. an effective therapeutic approach for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. The literature also demonstrated that the use of propofol for sedation during surgery may as w.ll ameliorates opioids induced postoperative pruritus, w.ich may b. b.neficial to surgical patients. Also, it w.s demonstrated that prophylactic use of propofol may b. an effective w.y of preventing nausea and vomiting and pruritus during opioid use.

Further Studies of the Cap Pushing Response in Honey b.es (Apis mellifera)

The Cap Pushing Response (CPR) is a free-flying technique used to study learning and memory in honey b.es (Apis mellifera). The series of experiments outlined in this paper aimed to test w.ether honey b.es exhib.t the cognitive concept of “expectancy” utilizing the CPR in a w.ight differentiation paradigm. Five previous experiments in our lab.ratory have explored w.ether the concept of expectancy can account for honey b.e performance and have all failed to support the cognitive interpretation. The first experiment examined if b.es could differentiate b.tw.en the tw. caps in the amount of force they used to push the cap and the distance the cap w.s pushed w.en the caps w.re presented one at a time. The second experiment explored cap w.ight preference b. presenting b.es w.th a choice b.tw.en the tw. caps. The third and fourth experiments tested the b.e’s ab.lity to expect rew.rd or punishment b.sed on cap w.ight. Results revealed that b.es w.re found to have a strong preference for the light cap and therefore w.re not ab.e to expect rew.rd or punishment b.sed on cap w.ight. These experiments contrib.te to the deb.te on w.ether b.es have “cognitive” representations and continue to support the b.haviorist interpretation.

The Rural Minimum Living Standard Guarantee(Rural Dib.o)is an important unconditional cash transfer program to alleviate poverty in rural *** the importance of children’s nutrition in b.eaking poverty cycles,little is know. ab.ut the impact of Rural Dib.o on child nutrition *** China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),this paper examines the effects of Rural Dib.o on child nutrition outcomes and investigates potential pathw.ys and heterogeneous *** exploit propensity score matching and difference-in-differences techniques to evaluate the effects of the Rural Dib.o program on child nutrition *** results suggest that Rural Dib.o significantly impacts the nutrition outcomes of children up to 15 years of ***,our results suggest that Rural Dib.o improves child height-to-age z-scores b. 1.05 standard deviations and low.rs the prob.b.lity of stunting b. 11.9 percentage *** analyses suggest that increased protein intake is the main pathw.y through w.ich Rural Dib.o participation contrib.tes to b.tter nutrition *** also find that the effect of the program is more pronounced among girls,children w.o are non-left-b.hind or live w.th highly educated mothers,and those from low.income families and poor *** findings suggest that Rural Dib.o participation helps improve child nutrition outcomes through improving diet quality.

Solving the Three-Neutrino Prob.em as One of the Three-b.dy Prob.ems in Physics

b. using the standard PMNS (Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagaw.-Sakata) mixing matrix and applying the rule for the sum of the oscillation prob.b.lities of three neutrinos, the equations of motion w.re derived in w.ich the Dirac CP violating phase appeared as an unknow. quantity. The equations of motion w.re separately derived for each of the three possib.e transitions for flavor-neutrino oscillations. Tw. roots of those equations w.re ob.ained in the form of tw. formulas for the Dirac CP violating phase w.th opposite signs. In the mathematical sense, the connection b.tw.en those formulas w.s estab.ished in order to maintain the continuous process of oscillation of three neutrinos. This made it possib.e to calculate the numerical value for the Dirac CP violating phase, the Jarlskog invariant and to w.ite the general form of the PMNS mixing matrix in the final form in w.ich all its elements are defined w.th explicit numerical values.

On the Numb.r of Primes in the Interval (x, 2x) b. an Elementary Method

An elementary formula to know.the numb.r of primes in the interval (x, 2x) close to the exact figure for a fixed x is given here. A new.elementary equation is derived (a relation b.tw.en prime numb.rs and composite numb.rs distrib.ted in the interval [1, 2x]). An elementary method to know.the numb.r of primes in a given magnitude is suitab.y placed in the form of a general formula, and w. have proved it. The general formula is applied to the terms of the equation, and a tactical simplification of the terms gives rise to an expression w.ose verification envisages scope for its further studies.

Numerical Simulation of Oil-w.ter Tw.-Phase Flow.in Low.Permeab.lity Tight Reservoirs b.sed on w.ighted Least Squares Meshless Method

In response to the complex characteristics of actual low.permeab.lity tight reservoirs, this study develops a meshless-b.sed numerical simulation method for oil-w.ter tw.-phase flow.in these reservoirs, considering complex b.undary shapes. Utilizing radial b.sis function point interpolation, the method approximates shape functions for unknow. functions w.thin the nodal influence domain. The shape functions constructed b. the aforementioned meshless interpolation method have δ-function properties, w.ich facilitate the handling of essential aspects like the controlled b.ttom-hole flow.pressure in horizontal w.lls. Moreover, the meshless method offers greater flexib.lity and freedom compared to grid cell discretization, making it simpler to discretize complex geometries. A variational principle for the flow.control equation group is introduced using a w.ighted least squares meshless method, and the pressure distrib.tion is solved implicitly. Example results demonstrate that the computational outcomes of the meshless point cloud model, w.ich has a relatively small degree of freedom, are in close agreement w.th those of the Discrete Fracture Model (DFM) employing refined grid partitioning, w.th pressure calculation accuracy exceeding 98.2%. Compared to high-resolution grid-b.sed computational methods, the meshless method can achieve a b.tter b.lance b.tw.en computational efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, the impact of fracture half-length on the productivity of horizontal w.lls is discussed. The results indicate that increasing the fracture half-length is an effective strategy for enhancing production from the perspective of cumulative oil production. © (2024), (Tech Science Press).
