Prevalence of Mental Disorders and Health Service Utilization among Individuals with Turkish Migration Backgrounds in Germany: A Study Protocol for an Epidemiological Investigation

Background: There is a lack of reliable epidemiological data on prevalence and comorbidity rates of mental disorders in the migrant population in Germany. Despite existing national and international data on the extent of psychosocial burdens in migrant populations the prevalence among the study population remains unclear. The aim of this study was to collect prevalence data for the largest migrant population in Germany-individuals with Turkish migration backgrounds—using a culturally and linguistically sensitive approach. Methods: The study employs a cross-sectional design. The multi-centre study (Hamburg, Berlin) is based on a sample of individuals with Turkish migration backgrounds living in the two cities stratified by age, gender, and education. The study programme consists of three phases: 1) a qualitative focus group to collect information on how to increase the participation rate of the target population as a minority group in Germany;2) a translation phase to create culture and linguistic sensitive versions of the assessment tools (e.g., the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) for Turkish speaking individuals;and 3) a baseline community study to assess the lifetime, 12-month and four-week prevalence and comorbidity rates of mental disorder, health care utilization and help-seeking behaviour in individuals of Turkish migration backgrounds living in Germany. Discussion: The study provides important data on the lifetime prevalence of mental disorders and health care utilization of individuals with Turkish migration backgrounds. Furthermore, the study is an important step towards gaining a better understanding of potential barriers to participation, creating resources for difficult-to- reach minorities, and understanding the need for assessing mental disorders in migrant populations. Growth and survival of blue swimming crab (<i>Portunus pelagicus</i>) reared on frozen and artificial foods

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of two frozen organism (with and without instant Nannochloropsis oculata and with and without instant encapsulated Spirulina) and artificial diet (with and without artificial encapsulated shrimp larvae feed) with live food as continues feed in the larval rearing of blue swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus. The larvae were conducted with six treatments and each treatment with three replications on newly one day hatched larvae in each replication. Results showed that these larvae fed with a combination diet of instant frozen N. oculata, Artemia nauplii and rotifer give a higher survival rate till 1st day juvenile crab compared to the treatment with instant encapsulated Spirulina and artificial diet (with artificial encapsulated shrimp larvae feed). One of experiments treated with encapsulated Spirulina recorded only 16 days for the zoea to reach the C1, one day earlier as compared to previous trials treated with and without instant frozen N. oculata. One of the experiments treated with artificial encapsulated shrimp larvae feed recorded 18 days for the zoea to reach the C1, 1 to 2 days longer as compared to all the previous trials earlier. Food type influenced survival, development, and metamorphosis to megalopa and 1st day juvenile crab of P. pelagicus zoea larvae. Our findings illustrate that the best survival, the most rapid development and the highest number of 1st day juvenile crabs were obtained from larvae fed with a combination diet of frozen N. oculata, Artemia nauplii and rotifer from hatching till the 1st day juvenile crab.

Contribution of soil and foliar fertilization of nitrogen and sulfur on physiological and quality assessment of wheat (<i>Triticum aestivum</i>L.)

Nitrogen and sulfur supplies have a strong influence on the physical characteristics of crop as well as on the quality and quantity of wheat storage proteins, which play an important role in bread-making process. In order to evaluate the contribution of soil and foliar fertilization of nitrogen and sulfur on physiological and quality assessment of wheat, a field trail was carried out having randomized complete block design with four replications and eight different treatments of nitrogen and sulfur combinations were allotted to plots at different growth stages. Results indicated that highest protein content (12.82%), maximum moisture content (10.9%), maximum crop growth rate and maximum absolute growth rate were recorded when the wheat crop was fertilized with T8 [Nitrogen @ 60 kg·ha-1 at sowing + 40 kg·ha-1 at tillering + 10 kg·ha-1 at anthesis (spray) + 10 kg·ha-1 after anthesis (spray)] + [Sulfur @ 15 kg·ha-1 at sowing + 10 kg·ha-1 at anthesis (spray) + 5 kg·ha-1 after anthesis (spray)], while control practice resulted low moisture content, low protein, minimum crop growth rate and low absolute growth rate. Among physiological components of wheat cultivars, leaf area index was enhanced when fertilization was done with T5 (Sulfur @ 15 kg·ha-1 at sowing + 10 kg·ha-1 at anthesis + 5 kg·ha-1 after anthesis). In all the recorded observations,concerning experiment wheat cultivar Pirsabaq2005 showed appreciable response as compared with other variety (Khyber-87). Thus it is possible to obtain maximum physiological traits as well as bread-making quality of wheat through soil and foliar application of nitrogen and sulfur.

Curcumin preconditioning enhances the efficacy of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells to accelerate healing of burn wounds

Background:Following recent findings from our group that curcumin preconditioning augments the therapeutic efficacy of adipose-derived stem cells in the healing of diabetic wounds in rats,we aimed to investigate the regenerative effects of curcumin preconditioned adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(ASCs)for better recovery of acid inflicted burns in this ***:ASCs were preconditioned with 5μM curcumin for 24 hours and assessed for proliferation,migration,paracrine release potential and gene expression comparative to naive ***,the healing capacity of curcumin preconditioned ASCs(Cur-ASCs)versus naive ASCs was examined using acidic wounds in *** this,acid inflicted burns of 20 mm in diameter were made on the back of male Wistar ***,2×10^(6) cells of Cur-ASCs and naive ASCs were intradermally injected in the wound periphery(n=6)for comparison with an untreated saline ***-transplantation,wounds were macroscopically analysed and photographed to evaluate the percentage of wound closure and period of *** wound biopsies were excised and used for histological evaluation and expression analysis of wound healing markers at molecular level by quantitative PCR and western ***:We found that Cur-ASCs exhibited greater proliferation,migration and paracrine potential in ***,Cur-ASCs showed more effective recovery than naive ASCs as exhibited by gross morphology,faster wound closure and earlier ***’s trichrome and hematoxylin and eosin staining demonstrated the improved architecture of the healing burns,as evidenced by reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells,compact collagen and marked granulation in Cur-ASC treated *** these findings,molecular assessment showed significantly reduced expressions of pro-inflammatory factors(interleukin-1 beta,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor alpha)a with striking upsurge of an oxidative marker(superoxide dismutase 1),p

Knowledge and Practice on Tuberculosis among Prison Workers from Seremban Prison

Background: Prisons are always overcrowded, and congestion leads to close relationships, and subsequently, increases the likelihood of airborne illnesses including Tuberculosis (TB). The purpose of this study was to identify the level of knowledge of TB transmission, and TB preventive practices of prison workers in a Malaysian prison. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with convenience sampling technique utilizing a validated questionnaire. 280 prison workers employed at the Seremban Prison were invited to participate in the study. The study period was from January 2019 to June 2019. Inclusion criteria included age above 18 years old and English literacy. The questionnaire was divided into 3 parts which were sociodemographic details, knowledge on TB transmission and TB preventive practices. The analysis was done in SPSS version 24.0 using appropriate statistical tests. Descriptive statistics was used to evaluate the knowledge level of TB transmission, and TB preventive practices of prison workers at Seremban prison. Results: Around 190 questionnaires were obtained usable registering a response rate of 68.5%. This study showed that around 66% of prison workers had moderate knowledge while around 26% had good knowledge of TB transmission. In terms of practice, around 93.7% of prison workers applied good TB prevention practice. Conclusion: This study showed that the majority of the respondents had moderate knowledge regarding TB transmission. However, their disease preventive practices were at acceptable levels which implied that existing prison standard operating procedures play an important on instilling these practices. Nonetheless, prison management should take important action by providing education and training to increase TB knowledge among prison workers to ensure that this practice is always upheld in both prison and community settings.
