OBJECTIVE:To investigate the phytochemicals and in vitro antioxidant,antimicrobial and cytotoxic potential of Rumex dentatus(***)leaf ***:The total phenolics and flavonoids content of *** extracts were evaluated by the Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride colorimetric methods *** potential of studied plant extracts was assessed through 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging capacity,total reducing power and total antioxidant ***,antibacterial and antifungal capacity was also evaluated by disc diffusion method against six clinically isolated multi-drug resistant bacterial strains as well as six fungal ***,cell cytotoxicity was also evaluated through3-(4,5-dimethylthiazolyl-2)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide ***:Ethanol extract showed highest total phenolic[(38.9±1.5)μg gallic acid equivalent/mg]and total flavonoids[(17.2±1.9)μg quercetin equivalent/mg]*** assays indicated that ethanol and methanol extracts possess potent antioxidant ***,it was observed that ethanol and hexane extracts have the potential to inhibit most of the tested multi-drug resistant bacterial strains while methanol,chloroform and hexane extracts could inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungal strains *** all the studied extracts,ethanolic extract showed highest cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cell line then Hep-2 and DU-145 cell lines by MTT assay with lowest IC50 of 47.3μg/m ***:These results suggest that *** could be a potent alternative candidate for treatment of microbial infections and for breast cancer treatment.

Objective: To investigate the inhibitory effects against dengue virus serotype 2(DENV-2) by five different fractions(extracted by methanol, ethanol, benzene, chloroform and n-hexane) of Rumex dentatus, Commelina benghalensis, Ajuga bracteosa and Ziziphus mauritiana, as well as their constituents(gallic acid, emodin, and isovanillic acid). Methods: All the samples were tested for cytotoxicity on baby hamster kidney cells by MTT assay and for anti-DENV-2 activity by plaque reduction neutralization assay using two DENV-2 doses(45 and 90 plaqueforming units or PFU). Results: All the samples except isovanillic acid exhibited significant prophylactic effects against DENV-2 infectivity(without cytotoxicity) when administered to cells before infection, but were not effective when given 6 h post-infection. The methanol extract of Rumex dentatus demonstrated the highest antiviral efficacy by inhibiting DENV-2 replication, with IC_(50) of 0.154 μg/mL and 0.234 μg/mL, when added before infection with 45 and 90 PFU of virus, respectively. Gallic acid also exhibited significant antiviral effects by prophylactic treatment prior to virus adsorption on cells, with IC_(50) of 0.191 μg/mL and 0.522 μg/mL at 45 and 90 PFU of DENV-2 infection, respectively. Conclusions: The highly potent activities of the extracts and constituent compounds of these plants against DENV-2 infectivity highlight their potential as targets for further research to identify novel antiviral agents against dengue.

Structural and optical properties of Zn1-xNixTe thin films prepared by electron beam evaporation technique

Zn1-xNixTe thin films with different composition(x=0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20) were deposited on glass substrate by electron beam evaporation technique followed by its characterization using advanced structural and optical analysis techniques. Structural properties of the prepared thin films were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD). The XRD patterns revealed that the binary compounds transformed into a ternary compound with cubic structure having preferred orientation along the c-direction with(111) planes. Composition analysis of the films was determined by energy dispersive analysis of X-rays(EDAX) and found to be in agreement with the precursor composition. Optical properties such as extinction coefficient(k) and band gap energy of these films were examined by using a spectroscopic ellipsometer. It was found that the extinction coefficient(k) increased with the addition of Ni content in the alloy. In comparison, the band gap energy was also determined by using transmission spectra and found to be agreed with that of the ellipsometric results. These analyses confirm that the band gap energy decreases with the increase of Ni content in the alloy.

This study presents the fabrication and characterization of novel surface-type capacitive humidity sensors using vanadyl phthalocyanine（VOPc） as the active *** devices,which comprise three different thicknesses, have been fabricated using the thermal evaporation technique.A thin film of VOPc is deposited on thoroughly cleaned glass substrates with pre-patterned Ag *** capacitive effect of the samples under humidity has been investigated. Comparison of the samples with different thicknesses shows that the thinnest device seems more sensitive towards *** humidity dependent capacitance properties of the sensor make it beneficial for use in commercial hygrometers.

Objective:To explore antioxidant potential,anti-cancer activity,and phytochemicals of Commelina benghalensis ***:The roots of Commelina benghalensis were extracted in different solvents(methanol,ethanol,benzene,chloroform,n-hexane)with a range of *** activity was evaluated by reducing power assay,DPPH radical scavenging activity and phosphomolybdenum method,cytotoxicity by MTT assay,apoptotic and cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry,migratory and invasive potential by wound scratch assay and invasion assay,respectively,functional groups analysis by FT-IR spectroscopy and phytochemicals by aluminum chloride colorimetric and FolinCiocalteu ***:The extracts showed worthy antioxidant *** chloroform extract demonstrated the most significant cytotoxic effect on MDA-MB-231(breast cancer)cell line,induced apoptosis and reduced migratory and invasive potential of MDA-MB-231 *** and ethanol extracts presented good yield of total phenolic and total flavonoid *** FTIR spectroscopic studies revealed different characteristic peak values with various functional compounds such as alkenes,alkanes,aliphatic amines,aromatics,alkyl halides,carboxylic acid,alcohols,ester,aldehydes and ***:The results demonstrate the potential use of Commelina benghalensis as a good antioxidant with significant anticancer effect.

The Effect of Some Soil Physical and Chemical Properties on Soil Aggregate Stability in Different Locations in Sulaimani and Halabja Governorate

Some soil properties were studied in relation soil aggregate along a climatologically region and different crop land use in the Northeast of Sulaimani City/Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Five locations were selected along these regions ranging from semiarid to sub-humid climatologically conditions. The soil physical, chemical properties, aggregate stability and size distribution were analyzed. A mean-weight-diameter (MWD) value was determined on 5 soils, which was the sum of the percentage of soil on each sieve (6, 3, 1.5, 0.75, 0.375 and 0.125 mm). The results of the measurements could evaluated with linear correlation coefficients for the relationships between aggregate stability (MWD) and soil physical and chemical properties of the different crop land use. The correlation coefficient for the relationship between aggregate stability and organic matter was highly significant (P < 0.0l%) which is in agreement with the findings of [1]. Generally large aggregates (large 6, 3, 3 - 1.5 mm) were present in highest proportions in the most semiarid of the studied areas. Aggregates 0.75 - 0.125 mm were positively correlated to fine, very fine sand and silt fractions and to organic matter. Stability of aggregates showed a positive correlation with clay content and organic matter content, while the carbonate content was strongly correlated with aggregate stability. The land use history affecting soil overlaps the pattern of climatological situations and cultivated crop lands and has to be taken into account. Aggregate size distribution and stability can be used as indicator of soil conservation and productivity.

Photoluminescence and structural analysis of wurtzite(ZnO)1-x(V2O5)x composite

This paper demonstrates the structural, vibrational and photoluminescence characteristics of(ZnO)(VO)(x = 0, 3, 6 and 9 mol%) composites semiconductor synthesized by using the solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction(XRD) studies show that(ZnO)(VO)composites have the poly crystalline wurtzite structure of hexagonal Zn O. It is found from the XRD results that the lattice constants and the crystallite size increase while the dislocation density decreases with increase in doping concentration. The existence of E1(TO) and E2(high) Raman modes show that the Zn O still preserve wurtzite structure after doping vanadium oxide, which is in agreement with XRD results. Room temperature photoluminescence(PL) exhibit near band edge and broad deep level emission while indicating the suppression of deep level emission with the incorporation of VOup to a certain concentration(x < 9). Moreover, the optical band gap increase with doping, which is accompanied by the blue shift of the NBE emission.

Myriad surgical and medical remedies including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) are being employed for acute right ventricle with varying results. Very few cases have been documented in literature regarding the role of VA ECMO for right ventricular failure after open heart surgery. We retrospectively analyzed all cases eliciting VA ECMO for post-operative right heart failure over a period of 24 months. Data was completely delineated for demography, pre-operative patient status at length, brief venipuncture course, indications for VA ECMO and its outcome after institution.
