Amphibians and more particularly X. laevis are models often used for studying apoptosis during embryonic development. Using several methods, searchers determined the localization of programmed cell deaths (PCD). Several experimental methods also have been used to understand the regulatory mechanisms of apoptosis, throughout development, contributing to elucidate the general action of several genes and proteins. Apoptosis occurs very early, with a first program under control of maternal genes expressed before MBT, in order to eliminate damaged cells before gastrulation, and a second program at the onset of gastrulation. PCD is also observed during neurulation. Then, apoptotic cells are observed in amphibian organogenesis and metamorphosis. Results of these researches showed both importance of PCD for embryonic development, and the complexity of its regulation. Results obtained can be useful to understand others aspects of the importance of apoptosis, particularly pathological aspects.

The study links targeted cell surface characterization to the quantified capacity of cellulose degrading Pseudomonas fluorescens cells to colonize a (similarly characterized) cellulosic carrier. The experiments were conducted to clarify the effect of cultivation conditions on the achieved state of this carrier colonization. The suggested approach seems to be sufficient to verify the right choice of cultivation medium as a major factor determining the binding complementarity between microbial cells and solid cellulose.

Assessment of Social Participation in Three Measurement Times in Children with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) Based on Parental Perceptions

Purpose: The aim of this study was to measure social participation in children with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) on their parental perceptions, retrospectively for the pre-injury period, at the beginning of rehabilitation and one year after return to school. Methods: This study was conducted among 17 children aged 5 to 17 years old with moderate or severe TBI and their parents. Social participation was assessed using the LIFE-H for Children (1.0). Results: A significant decrease (p ≤ 0.001) in the level of accomplishment of life habits was found for all categories between the measurements taken pre-injury and at the beginning of rehabilitation. Significant differences (p ≤ 0.002) related to the increase in the life habit accomplishment scores were also found between measurements taken at the beginning of rehabilitation and one year after return to school. Conclusion: TBI significantly affected the accomplishment of life habits of the participants compared to their pre-injury level. The assessment of social participation at various times provides a report on the client’s progress and allows clinicians to update his or her intervention plan, to plan follow-ups or to end the intervention. This knowledge must be considered by anyone involved in helping these children to achieve their greatest social participation.

Introduction: Helicobacter pylori infection is a real health problem worldwide. It is the most common chronic bacterial infection in the world, and is particularly prevalent in developing countries. Objective: To determine the frequency of Helicobacter pylori infection and to study the epidemiological, clinical and endoscopic characteristics associated with this infection in Brazzaville. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from January to November 2020, i.e. 11 months. This work focused on 100 symptomatic patients over 18 years old referred for upper GI endoscopy. Gastric biopsies for biological study by urease test and molecular study by real time PCR technique were taken. Results: With a mean age of 46.32 ± 15.20 years, the frequency of Hp infection was 91%, with a female predominance of 53%. The sex ratio was 0.92. The average age was 46.32 ± 15.20 years. Carriage of the infection was more important in households with more than 3 persons, in patients consuming public tap water and in those using both types of sanitary facilities. Endoscopy was indicated for epigastralgia in 93.1% of cases. About 56.14% of the infected patients had normal mucosa versus 12.28% with ulcerated lesions and 22.81% with gastritis. Conclusion: The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection is significant in Congo, justifying early detection in order to improve management.

This work is a contribution of theoretical chemistry to the classification of some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Indeed, research on the efficacy of NSAIDs has shown that no NSAID is recognized as the most efficient anti-inflammatory drug. We have made a theoretical study of diclofenac, bromfenac and amfenac, in order to compare their efficacy from some physicochemical properties. To do this, we used the DFT and TD-DTF methods at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d, p) level theory. The lipophilicity study shows that diclofenac and bromfenac are very lipophilic. Acidity study shows that diclofenac is more acid than bromfenac and amfenac. The results from molecular orbital and the TD-DFT calculations reveal that for the three NSAIDs, the lowest energy transition is due to the excitation from HOMO to LUMO. The absorption energy corresponding to H→L transition is comparable with the energy gap value. Our findings have shown that bromfenac is more reactive than amfenac, which is more reactive than diclofenac.

Regulation of protein function by reversible S-nitrosation,a post-translational modification based on the attachment of nitroso group to cysteine thiols,has emerged among key mechanisms of NO signalling in plant development and stress responses.S-nitrosoglutathione is regarded as the most abundant low-molecular-weight S-nitrosothiol in plants,where its intracellular concentrations are modulated by S-nitrosoglutathione *** analysed modulations of S-nitrosothiols and protein S-nitrosation mediated by S-nitrosoglutathione reductase in cultivated Solanum lycopersicum(susceptible)and wild Solanum habrochaites(resistant genotype)up to 96h post inoculation(hpi)by two hemibiotrophic oomycetes,Phytophthora infestans and Phytophthora parasitica.S-nitrosoglutathione reductase activity and protein level were decreased by *** and *** infection in both genotypes,whereas protein S-nitrosothiols were increased by *** infection,particularly at 72 hpi related to pathogen biotrophy–necrotrophy *** levels of S-nitrosothiols localised in both proximal and distal parts to the infection site,which suggests together with their localisation to vascular bundles a signalling role in systemic responses.S-nitrosation targets in plants infected with *** identified by a proteomic analysis include namely antioxidant and defence proteins,together with important proteins of metabolic,regulatory and structural *** peroxidase S-nitrosation was observed in both genotypes in parallel to increased enzyme activity and protein level during *** pathogenesis,namely in the susceptible *** results show important regulatory functions of protein S-nitrosation in concerting molecular mechanisms of plant resistance to hemibiotrophic pathogens.

Computational Study of the Interactions between Antimalarial Chemotherapies with Folate Pathway Receptors and Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase

Malaria is a life-threatening disease responsible for half a million death annually, and with nearly half of the world’s population at risk. The rapid drop in observed cases of malaria in the last two decades has been due to a combination of preventive and therapeutic remedies. However, the absence of a vaccine, new antimalarial chemotherapies and increased parasitic resistance have led to a plateau of infections and renewed research interest in target human and Plasmodium (the malaria parasite) receptors and new drugs. In this study, the impact of mutation on the affinity on antimalarial drugs with the bifunctional enzyme complex, dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) is explored. In addition, homology modeling is used to build the three-dimensional models of the enzymes Plasmodium telomerase reverse-transcriptase (pf-TERT) and Plasmodium dihydropteroate synthetase (pf-DHPS) to determine their affinity with antimalarial drugs. The interaction energies and stable complexes formed between these enzymes and antimalarial drugs (chloroquine, artemisinin, primaquine, pyrimethamine, sulfadoxine and pentamidine) were modelled using AutoDock vina. Our data indicate that pf-TERT and pf-DHPS form stable complexes with the antimalarial ligands with affinity ranging from 𕒸.0 to 𕒺.9 kcal/mol. The affinity with crystal structures of DHFR receptors was higher ranging from 𕒺.0 to 󔼒.0 kcal/mol. The affinity to DHFR also decreases with the mutation a confirmation of the source of resistance.
