Antioxidant status in patients with bladder cancer regarding cancer stage and grade

Objective:The imbalance of antioxidants and pro-oxidants plays a crucial role in the carcinogenesis of bladder cancer(BC).This study aimed to evaluate serum antioxidant status in patients with BC and determine its potential use in the diagnosis and progression potential considerations following histopathological ***:A cross-sectional study included 90 patients with BC,divided into Ta,T1,and T2eT4 stage subgroups,and according to cancer progression potential,into low-grade(LG)and highgrade(HG)*** control group(CG)included 30 healthy *** status was determined using the spectrophotometric method and standard laboratory ***:Serum superoxide dismutase activity was significantly higher in BC patients regarding cancer stage in comparison to the CG(p<0.001).Catalase activity was highest in T2eT4 subgroup and was significantly higher compared to the Ta(p<0.01)and T1(p<0.05)*** albumin level was significantly lower in the BC group compared to the CG(p<0.001).In addition,it was significantly lower in T2eT4 subgroup compared to T1 and Ta subgroups(p<0.01).A significant negative correlation was found between tumor size and serum albumin level only(r=0.386,p<0.01).Catalase activity was higher in HG subgroup(p=0.009),while bilirubin level was higher in LG subgroup(p=0.035).The optimal cut-off value of catalase activity in differentiating patients with LG and HG BC subgroups was 11.96 IU/L,and the specificity and sensitivity were 51.1% and 82.2%,*** level,for a calculated optimal cut-off value of 11.95 mmol/L,had a specificity of 44.1%and sensitivity of 80.0%.Conclusion:More invasive stages of BC with greater progression potential are associated with an increase in enzymatic antioxidant activity and a decrease in non-enzymatic antioxidant *** may suggest a possible role of antioxidants in the prediction and monitoring of illness trajectory.

4-Amino-3-(p-chlorophenyl)-5-(p-methoxybenzyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole:X-ray and DFT-calculated Structures

The title compound, 4-amino-3-（p-chlorophenyl）-5-（p-methoxybenzyl）-4H-1,2,4- triazole I , C16H15ClN4O）, has been determined using X-ray diffraction techniques and the molecular structure has also been optimized at the B3LYP/6-31 G（d, p） level using density functional theory （DFT）. The triazole ring exhibits dihedral angles of 41.61（15）o and 80.73（11）o with the phenyl rings. The molecules are linked principally by N–H…N hydrogen bonds involving the amino NH2 group and a triazole N atom, forming C（5） chains which are further linked to give a two-dimensional network of molecules. The N–H…N hydrogen bonding is supported by C–H…N hydrogen bond and C–H…π interaction. Intermolecular N–H…N and C–H…N hydrogen bonds produce R22（9）, R44（10） and R44（20） rings.

Decreased paraoxonase1 activity and increased malondialdehyde and oxidative DNA damage levels in primary open angle glaucoma

To investigate the malondialdehyde（MDA） levels,paraoxonase1（PON1） activity and 8-hydroxy 2-deoxyguanosine（8-OHd G） levels in the primary open angle glaucoma（POAG） *** samples from 52 healthy individuals and 53 patients with POAG were analyzed for MDA and 8-OHd G by high-performance liquid chromatography（HPLC） and PON1 by *** data obtained were analyzed *** levels were 10.46±8.4 and 4.70±1.79 μmol; PON1 levels were 121 ±39.55 and 161.62 ±60.22 U/m L; and 8-OHd G values were1.32 ±0.53/10~6 d G and 0.47 ±0.27/10~6 d G in the POAG patients and the control group,*** difference was significant in MDA levels,8-OHd G levels and PON1 activity in POAG patients in comparison with controls（P 〈0.001）.We concluded that the observed increase in MDA and 8-OHd G levels may be correlated with decreased PON1 *** stress plays an important role in glaucoma development.

Arc magmatism as a window to plate kinematics and subduction polarity:Example from the eastern Pontides belt,NE Turkey

The Eastern Pontides orogenic belt in the Black Sea region of Turkey offers a critical window to plate kinematics and subduction polarity during the closure of the Paleotethys. Here we provide a brief synthesis on recent information from this belt. We infer a southward subduction for the origin of the Eastern Pontides orogenic belt and its associated late Mesozoic--Cenozoic magmatism based on clear spatial and temporal variations in Late Cretaceous and Cenozoic arc magmatism, together with the exis- tence of a prominent south-dipping reverse fault system along the entire southern coast of the Black Sea. Our model is at variance with some recent proposals favoring a northward subduction polarity, and illus- trates the importance of arc magmatism in evaluating the geodynamic milieu associated with convergent margin orocesses.

First report of the histopathological effect of electrocautery using on the urethral taste rosea during glans penis injury by incision in rabbits

Clinical and impression cytology findings of amniotic membrane and oral mucosal membrane transplantation for the management of socket contracture

AIM:To investigate and compare the cytopathological and clinical effects of amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT)and oral mucosal membrane transplantation(OMMT)in socket ***:Twelve patients who could not be fitted with ocular prosthesis due to socket contracture were included in this *** patients underwent AMT and 5 patients underwent *** patients who had healthy sockets were included as control *** of inferior fornix,degree of inflammation,extent of the socket contracture and socket volume were measured in the preoperative period and at sixth and twelfth weeks *** cytology of conjunctival fornices and tear transforming growth factor beta-1(TGFβ1)levels were ***:In the AMT group,socket volume and lower fornix depth values were significantly higher(P=0.030and P=0.004 respectively)and inflammation levels and impression cytology stages(P=0.037 and P=0.022respectively)were significantly lower in postoperative period compared to preoperative *** the OMMT group,no statistical differences were found in terms of clinical parameters,inflammation levels and impression cytology stages of preoperative versus postoperative *** tear TGFβ1 levels were higher in AMT and OMMT groups compared to the control group(25.5 ng/mL,26.3 ng/mL and 21.7 ng/mL respectively).Decreased tear TGFβ1 levels were observed in both the AMT and OMMT groups postoperatively(median decrease value=2.1 ng/mL and 2.7 ng/mL respectively).CONCLUSION:AMT is associated with postoperative improvement in inferior fornix depth,socket volume,inflammation and impression cytology levels and may bea more proper alternative method than OMMT in the management of socket contracture.

Materials Development for Adult Learners in Teaching Vocabulary

Considering the special needs and the learning styles of their learners, foreign language teachers should use the most effective methods or approaches which are appropriate for their teaching strategies. Redundant or a diverse range of teaching techniques are not meant to use in the process of their learners＇ acquiring new vocabulary items; instead, the most effective and to the point teaching techniques in terms of each language skill should be employed. Efficiency of language learners in terms of their command of the vocabulary can be assessed through their understanding any reading or listening context and managing to be productive in speaking or writing procedures in language acquisition process. Phonological, morpho-syntactic, or socio-pragmatic positions of new lexical items as well as the learners＇ learning styles and multiple intelligences should all be taken into consideration by language teachers so that their learners could really reach an efficient level of vocabulary power. This efficiency has been identified as having a language passport in terms of the proficiency level of the learners within the CEFR （Common European Framework of Reference） for Languages by all EU countries in recent years. Foreign language teachers should try very hard to supply their learners with the required qualifications in every language skill so that they can have a linguistic identity both in their own societies and inter-cultural or multi-cultural contexts. Within this framework, foreign language teachers will hopefully make use of any suggested approach presented in this study so as to widen their learners＇ horizons in language acquisition process.

Effects of fermentation time on phenolic composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of green, oolong, and black teas

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of fermentation degree on total phenolic content, individual catechins, gallic acid, theaflavins, caffeine content, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity in teas. Green tea, black tea and oolong tea (partially oxidized 7 different degrees) were produced from the same cultivar of tea leaves harvested in first shooting period. The higher degree of fermentation was resulted in higher theaflavins, however in lower individual catechins and total phenolic content. Standard catechins gradually decreased with extended fermentation duration and epigallocatechin gallate decreased 87% from green tea to oolong to black tea. Higher antioxidant activity was observed in green and lower fermented oolong teas. There were significant (p0.9) between DPPH, ABTS assays and total phenolic content, catechin, epigallocatechin gallate, epicatechin, epicatechin gallate and total catechins. Significant (p0.7) were also observed between ORAC and those catechins. Moreover, the tea samples especially green tea showed antibacterial effects against three of the tested pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and antifungal effects against Candida albicans ATCC 10231. However, no antimicrobial activity was detected against Escherichia coli.
