Effects of co-administration of Ganoderma terpenoid extract with chloroquine on inflammatory markers and antioxidant status in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice

objective:To understand the protective effects of Ganoderma terpenoid extract(GTE)against Plasmodium berghei-malarial infection in mice,the present study was carried out to evaluate the effects of GTE in combination with chloroquine disulphate(CQ)on erythrocyte-selected inflammatory markers and antioxidant defense status in ***-infected ***:***-infected mice were divided into six groups:infected control(IC)group,administered 1 mL Tween 20;GTE100 and GTE250 groups,administered 100 and 250 mg/kg GTE,respectively;GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups,co-administered 100 and 250 mg/kg GTE plus 30 mg/kg CQ,respectively;and CQ group,administered 30 mg/kg CQ.A separate group of non-infected mice were given 1 m L Tween 20,and served as a normal control group(NC).Extract and drug were dissolved in Tween20 and administered orally once daily for 12 consecutive *** the end of the treatment period,mice were anesthetized with chloroform and sacrificed by cervical *** was prepared from blood obtained from each *** evaluated at the end of the treatment period include parasitemia,red blood cell count,hematocrit,malondialdehyde(MDA),glutathione(GSH),catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase(GPx),superoxide dismutase(SoD),tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a),and interleukin-10(IL-10).Results:Infected mice treated with a combination of GTE and CQ(GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups)showed significantly reduced parasitemia levels(Pompared to those administered GTE alone as well as *** improvement in body weight(Po observed in infected mice treated with a combination of GTE and CQ(GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups),compared to mice receiving GTE alone(GTE100 and GTE250 groups).Plasma MDA and TNF-a concentrations were significantly lowered,and IL-10 concentration was significantly increased in GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups,relative to the IC group(Poncentration and SoD,CAT and GPx activities were significantly higher in GT100+

Seepage or loss of the mix-water from the drilling muds into the porous and permeable formations is a common problem during drilling *** drilling mud design requires a good knowledge of sealing integrity and all the factors influencing the mud to bridge through fractures or pore throat of exposed *** circulation materials(LCMs)are commonly introduced into the drilling mud to prevent or minimize filtrate *** study investigates silica nanoparticle(SNP)derived from rice husk(RH)termed RH-SNP using the wet-milling method as an LCM inwater-based mud(WBM).The impact of the RH-SNP in the enhancement of rheology and filtrate loss control properties of WBM was ***,the sealing integrity of the RH-SNP in a 1 mm and 2 mm simulated fracture for 7 min was determined using a stainless-steel slotted filter *** performance of the developed RH-SNP was compared with the widely applied *** synthesized RH-SNP at amount of 2.0 wt% significantly enhanced the yield point and plastic viscosity of the WBM by 75% and 386%,respectively,and minimized the fluid loss of the WBM by 47% at 80°*** enhancement is due to the particles ability to spread and interact efficiently with the *** the use of 1 mm and 2 mm simulated fracture for 7 min,the mud loss volume of the base mud reduced by 50%,66.7%,86%,and 90%(for 1 mm)and 40%,65.7%,77.1%,and 80%(for 2 mm)with the inclusion of 0.5 wt%,1.0 wt%,1.5 wt%,and 2.0 wt% of RH-SNP,***,the results showed that RH-SNP enhanced the seal integrity of the drilling mud and was more resistant to deformation compared to the *** findings of this study can help for better understanding of the application of RH-SNP as a loss circulation agent owing to its superior ability to seal fractured formation compared with the often used nutshell.

Natural regeneration in logging gaps of different sizes in Subri River Forest Reserve(Ghana)

Application of ordinary Kriging in Mapping Soil organic Carbon in Zambia

The quantification of the pattern and spatial distribution of soil organic carbon （SoC） is fundamental to understand many ecosystem processes. This study aimed to apply ordinary kriging （oK） to model the spatial distribution of SoC in a selected part of Zambia. A total of 100 soil samples were collected from the study area and analyzed for SoC by determining soil oxidizable carbon using the Walkley-Black method. An automated fitting procedure was followed when modeling the spatial structure of the SoC data with the exponential semivariogram. The results indicated that the short range spatial dependence of SoC was strong with a nugget close to zero. The spatial autocorrelation was high to medium with a nugget to sill ratio of 0.25. The root mean square error of the predictions was 0.64, which represented 58.18% of the mean observed data for SoC. It can be concluded that the generated map could serve as a proxy for SoC in the region where evidence of spatial structure and quantitative estimates of uncertainty are reported. Therefore, the maps produced can be used as guides for various uses including optimization of soil sarapling.

Removal of Steriod Hormones by Activated Carbon Adsorption—Kinetic and Thermodynamic Studies

The mechanism, isotherms and kinetics of removal of two endocrine disrupting chemicals, 17β-estradiol (E2) and 17α-ethinyloestradiol (EE2) by activated carbon adsorption were investigated in an agitated non-flow batch adsorption studies. Mathematical models were used to describe the adsorption phenomenon with the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters evaluated using the adsorption equilibrium data at varying temperatures. Higher adsorption rates were achieved at acidic to neutral pH ranges, with the sorption kinetic data showing a good fit to the pseudo second order rate equation and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model for both E2 and EE2. The Gibbs free energy were –16.68 kJ/mol and –17.34 kJ/mol for E2 and EE2 respectively. The values of enthalpy for both E2 (84.50 kJ/mol) and EE2 (90 kJ/mol) indicated a chemical nature of the sorption process. Both the isotherm and thermodynamic data obtained all supported the mechanism of adsorption of E2 and EE2 to be mainly chemisorptions supported by some physical attractions.

Issues in the Influence of Ito-type Noise on the oscillation of Solutions of Delay Differential Pantograph Equations

In this paper, a deterministic delay differential pantograph equation （DDPE） with an unbounded memory is stochastically perturbed by an Ito-type noise. The contribution of white noise to the oscillatory behaviour of the new stochastic delay differential pantograph equation （SDDPE） is investigated. It is established that under certain conditions and with a highly positive probability, the new stochastic delay differential pantograph equation has an oscillatory solution influenced by the presence of the noise. This is not possible with the original deterministic system which has a non-oscillatory solution due to the absence of noise.

objective:To investigate the effects of different extracts of Anthocleista djalonensis on the testis and epididymal sperms of ***:Fifty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 10 groups(n=5 in each group)and orally treated with 50,100 and 200 mg/kg body weight each of methanol,aqueous ethanol(H-EtoH)and chloroform extracts of *** oil was used as vehicle(2 mL/kg).After 60 days of treatment,testosterone(T)and cholesterol(CHoL)concentrations,catalase(CAT),lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase(3β-HSD)and superoxide dismutase(SoD)activities in the testes along with myeloperoxidase(MPo)activities and nitrite concentrations(No)in the serum and testes as well as sperm quality were ***:T and CHoL concentrations along with 3β-HSD activity were significantly higher in the animals treated with the low dose than in those treated with the high dose of the chloroform extract(Pore,the chloroform extract was more effective than the methanol extract that had the most marginal effect on T level at the high dose and the H-Et oH extract that was only effective at the medium *** activity was dose-dependently increased by the extracts in all *** CAT-SoD antioxidant system was increased in the treated animals at all doses compared to the control values,but the increase in glutathione level reached significant level in those treated with the low dose H-Et oH aqueous ethanol extract(Ponly the high dose of chloroform extract had significant inhibitory effects on MPo activity(Po concentration was decreased at all doses of the *** inhibitory effects of the extracts on testicular No concentrations follow this order,chloroform extract>H-Et oH>*** all extracts at all doses showed excellent stimulatory effects on sperm quality(count,motility and morphology),the methanol extract at the high dose was the most effective on sperm count(Ponclusion:The chloroform ex
