The investigation of medical and psychosocial problems of geriatric population in the urban area of Madhya Pradesh in India

Globally, there are an estimated 605 million people aged 60 years and above. Improvements in health care facilities have brought longevity, which is considered to be one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century. Objectives: To assess the morbidity pattern in geriatric people. Methodology: A community based cross sectional study. Results: Out of 208 aged 91 (43.7%) were males, 117 (56.25%) were females. Maximum number of males and females were from the age group 60 - 64 years. 117 (56.25%) had chronic problems and 15 (7.2%) acute. Musculo skeleton problem was the commonest (63%) complaint both in males and females, followed by cardio vascular problem (44%). Diabetes mellitus was more common in males than females and hypertension was more common in females than males. Chronic bronchitis was the commonest respiratory disorder in males (8.7%). Total 20 (9.6%) had psychological problems (depression), psychological problems more common in males 11 (12%) than females 9 (7.7%) Conclusion: The present study showed that chronic morbidity in elderly was significantly higher (56.3%) than acute (7.2%), most commonly affected system by chronic morbidity was musculo-skeletal followed by cardio vascular (CVS) and gastrointestinal (GIT). Psychological problems were more common in males (12%) than in females (7.7%). Psychological problems were more in lower socio-economic class-(V) than higher Class [1].

Aerosols are one of the important atmospheric constituents and exert indirect impact on climate through the modification of microphysical and radiative properties of clouds that in turn perturb the precipitation pattern.Thus,the long term quantification of changes in aerosol and cloud characteristics and their interactions on both temporal as well as spatial scale will provide a crucial information for the better assessment of future climate change.In present study,18 years(2003-2020)MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer(MODIS)derived aerosol-cloud dataset over the Northern Indian Ocean(NIO)were analysed to assess climatology and trend of aerosol,cloud characteristics and their correlation.We found a strong heterogeneity in spatio-temporal variation of aerosol and cloud parameters over the NIO that are more prominent for the coastal region.The climatological mean of aerosol loading is found high(AOD≥0.5)over the outflow region along the Indian sub-continent and low(AOD≤0.2)over the northern equatorial open ocean.The climatological mean of cloud properties shows dominance of optically thicker deep convective(CTP700 hPa and CTT>273 K)over the northwestern Arabian Sea(AS).Similarly,bigger effective radii(>17µm)observed along the equatorial open ocean whereas smaller CER(0.003 yr^(-1))suggesting a significant impact of s

An efficient resampling reliability approach was developed to consider the effect of statistical uncertainties in input properties arising due to insufficient data when estimating the reliability of rock slopes and tunnels.This approach considers the effect of uncertainties in both distribution parameters(mean and standard deviation)and types of input properties.Further,the approach was generalized to make it capable of analyzing complex problems with explicit/implicit performance functions(PFs),single/multiple PFs,and correlated/non-correlated input properties.It couples resampling statistical tool,i.***.jackknife,with advanced reliability tools like Latin hypercube sampling(LHS),Sobol’s global sensitivity,moving least square-response surface method(MLS-RSM),and Nataf’s transformation.The developed approach was demonstrated for four cases encompassing different types.Results were compared with a recently developed bootstrap-based resampling reliability approach.The results show that the approach is accurate and significantly efficient compared with the bootstrap-based approach.The proposed approach reflects the effect of statistical uncertainties of input properties by estimating distributions/confidence intervals of reliability index/probability of failure(s)instead of their fixed-point estimates.Further,sufficiently accurate results were obtained by considering uncertainties in distribution parameters only and ignoring those in distribution types.

The present study focuses on the inorganic geochemical features of the bituminous coal samples from the Raniganj and the Jharia Basins,as well as the anthracite samples from the Himalayan fold-thrust belts of Sikkim,India.The SiO_(2)content(48.05 wt%to 65.09 wt%and 35.92 wt%to 50.11 wt%in the bituminous and anthracite samples,respectively)and the ratio of Al_(2)O_(3)/TiO_(2)(6.97 to 17.03 in the bituminous coal samples and 10.34 to 20.07 in the anthracite samples)reveal the intermediate igneous source rock composition of the minerals.The ratio of the K_(2)O/Al_(2)O_(3)in the ash yield of the bituminous coal samples(0.03 to 0.09)may suggest the presence of kaolinite mixed with montmorillonite,while its range in the ash yield of the anthracite samples(0.16 to 0.27)may imply the presence of illite mixed with kaolinite.The chemical index of alteration values may suggest the moderate to strong chemical weathering of the source rock under sub-humid to humid climatic conditions.The plot of the bituminous coal samples in the A–CN–K diagram depicts the traditional weathering trend of parent rocks,but the anthracite samples plot near the illite feld and are a bit ofset from the weathering trend.This may imply the plausible infuences of the potassium-metasomatism at post coalifcation stages,which is further supported by high K_(2)O/Na_(2)O ratio(29.88–80.13).The Fourier transform infrared spectra further reveal the hydroxyl stretching intensity of illite in the anthracite samples substantiating the efect of the epigenetic potassium-metasomatism.The decrease in total kaolinite intensity/compound intensity of quartz and feldspar may provide additional evidence towards this epigenetic event.

Generally,data is available abundantly in unlabeled form,and its annotation requires some cost.The labeling,as well as learning cost,can be minimized by learning with the minimum labeled data instances.Active learning(AL),learns from a few labeled data instances with the additional facility of querying the labels of instances from an expert annotator or oracle.The active learner uses an instance selection strategy for selecting those critical query instances,which reduce the generalization error as fast as possible.This process results in a refined training dataset,which helps in minimizing the overall cost.The key to the success of AL is query strategies that select the candidate query instances and help the learner in learning a valid hypothesis.This survey reviews AL query strategies for classification,regression,and clustering under the pool-based AL scenario.The query strategies under classification are further divided into:informative-based,representative-based,informative-and representative-based,and others.Also,more advanced query strategies based on reinforcement learning and deep learning,along with query strategies under the realistic environment setting,are presented.After a rigorous mathematical analysis of AL strategies,this work presents a comparative analysis of these strategies.Finally,implementation guide,applications,and challenges of AL are discussed.

Solid waste management is a severe challenge in India due to massive and rapid growth in waste generation rates,environmental difficulties,and financial constraints for proper treatment.Poorly managed municipal solid waste(MSW)has substantial negative consequences for society,including financial and aesthetic harm,contamination of natural resources,environmental pollution,and severe health danger.Both qualitative and quantitative factors are required to select the appropriate solid waste treatment and disposal technologies.Multi-Criteria decision-making tools helped in analyzing solid waste in terms of qualitative and quantitative factors.In this paper,seven criteria and their sub-criteria are selected for ranking solid waste treatment and disposal technology using fuzzy-analytic hierarchy process.The results showed that composting is the most suitable option for solid waste treatment and disposal technology,followed by refuse-derived fuel.The incineration and sanitary landfills are the least preferred MSW management alternatives.The sensitivity analysis reveals a high consistency,robustness,and stability level.

A vortex tube silt ejector is a curative hydraulic structure used to remove sediment deposits from canals and is recognized as one of the most efficient substitutes for physically removing canal sediment. The spatially varied flow in the channel and the rotational flow behavior in the tube make the silt removal process complex. It is even harder to accurately predict the silt removal efficiency by traditional models accurately. However, artificial intelligence(AI) and machine learning approaches have emerged as robust substitutes for studying complex processes. Therefore, this research makes use of AI approaches; support vector machine(SVM), random forest(RF), random tree(RT), and multivariate adaptive regression spline(MARS) to compute the vortex tube silt ejection efficiency using the laboratory data sets. The outcomes of the artificial intelligence(AI)-based techniques also were compared with traditional models. It was found that the RT model(root mean square error, RMSE = 2.165, Nash Sutcliffe efficiency, NSE = 0.98) outperforms the other applied approaches which had relatively more significant result errors. The sensitivity analysis of the process depicts the extraction ratio as the key parameter in the computation of vortex tube silt ejector removal efficiency. The findings of the AI-based approaches discussed in the current study might be helpful for hydraulic engineers as well as researchers in the assessment of the removal efficiency of vortex tube silt ejectors.

Polygon clipping is of great importance in computer graphics.One of the popular algorithms to clip a polygon is Cohan–Sutherland Hodgeman algorithm which is based on line clipping.Cohan–Sutherland Hodgeman algorithm clips the polygon against the given rectangular clip window with the help of line clipping method.Cohan–Sutherland algorithm requires traversing the polygon in anti clockwise direction(positive orientation).In this work we propose an efficient polygon clipping algorithm against a rectangular clip window.Proposed algorithm uses parametric representation of polygon edges.Using the concept of point clipping,we can find required intersection points of edges of polygon with clip window boundaries.Well suited numerical illustrations are used to explain the proposed polygon clipping method.The proposed algorithm is computationally less expensive and comprehensive.

Rate-dependent mechanical behavior of jointed rock with an impersistent joint under different infill conditions

Transition in the rate-dependent mechanical response of rock was investigated due to the presence of impersistent joint with different infill conditions.Four types of samples,i.***.intact,jointed with no grouting,jointed and grouted with cement,and jointed and grouted with epoxy,were fabricated using model material.A series of dynamic split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB) tests was conducted on prepared samples with strain rates varying between 53-130 salong with static uniaxial compression tests(10s).Progression of fracture/failure along samples was monitored using high-speed imaging and digital image correlation(DIC).Strength was observed to be significantly lower for jointed samples as compared to intact samples.However,the increasing trend of strength with strain rates remained similar for all types of samples.Epoxy was observed to be a better grout due to greater improvement in the strength of epoxy grouted jointed samples than cement grouted samples under both static and dynamic conditions.Significant changes were observed in fracture behavior(initiation,pattern and mechanism)with strain rate for intact and jointed unfilled/grouted samples.Fracturing was dominated by shear and tensile cracks at high strain rates compared to tensile cracks at low strain rates in all samples.Unlike static loading conditions,the location of cracks initiation shifts away from joint tips with increasing strain rate and depending upon existing infill conditions(unfilled/grouted).
