Analyzed is natural transient convection followed by steady-state convection in an elliptical cavity heated from below, using a spectral finite difference scheme in terms of a Dim expansion. The major or minor axis of the elliptic section of the cavity is assumed to be placed horizontally. As a thermal boundary condition, Dirichlet or Neumann condition is specified. Not only for nearly pure-heat conduction case at low Grashof numbers but also for strong convection flow with cellular patterns at larger Grashof numbers are found to be attained at least for some combination of Prandtl numbers and geometrical parameters.

A design method of reinforced concrete (R. C.) offshore platforms with nonlinear finite element analysis is proposed. According to the method, a computer program is developed. In this program nonlinear constitutive relationships and strength criteria of concrete and steel bars are included, and the progressive cracking and crushing of the concrete are taken into account. Based on the stress distribution obtained by the nonlinear finite element analysis, the amount of reinforcement in the control sections can be computed and adjusted automatically by the program to satisfy the requirement of the design. The amount of reinforcement required in the control sections, which are obtained with the nonlinear finite element analysis, is agreeable to that obtained in the experiment. This shows that the design method of R. C. offshore platform with the nonlinear finite element method proposed by the authors is reliable for practical use.

For the discretization of higher order elements, this paper presents a modified integral domain method to remove the irregular frequencies inherited in the integral equation of wave diffraction and radiation from a surface-piercing body. The set of over-determined linear equations obtained from the method is modified into a normal set of linear equations by superposing a set of linear equations with zero solutions. Numerical experiments have also been carried out to find the optimum choice of the size of the auxiliary domain and the discretization on it.

Creep behavior of Fe-15Cr-25Ni alloys with different grain boundary features has been in- vestigated at 850 and 950℃ and in stress range of 14.7～78.5 *** single phase alloy exhibits typical recovery creep characteristics,and for the alloy in which M_(23)C_6 carbides densely precipitate at grain boundaries,the creep rate dramatically decreases and creep behav- ior is also significantly different from the single phase *** the carbides precipitate at grain boundaries,the dislocation density are higher and the size of subgrains near grain boundaries are smaller than those of single phase *** creep mechanisms for two grain boundary features have been discussed.

Through the analysis of the relationship between the method of discretization and the method of model superposition when applied in dynamic analysis of continued-mass structures, and with the application of the correction method of model superposition developed in reference (Qu, 1985), a new method is presented for the computation of local effect of earthquake on off-shore platform. Comparing with the method shown in reference (Anagnostopoulos, 1982), we can see that its disadvantages are mended. And we have proved the necessity of the calculation of local earthquake response and the correctness of the method given in this paper.

In this paper, by using the wave data from a few oceanographic observation stations in the coastal zone of the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and the South China Sea, the long-term joint distribution of the one-tenth large (or significant) wave height with average period is studied. The statistical data demonstrate that the long- term distribution of the one- tenth wave height or average period fits the log-normal distribution, thus the joint distribution also fits the two-dimensional log-normal distribution. Then the conditional probability distribution of the average period is derived, and the range as well as the mode of the average wave period corresponding to a certain return period of wave height can be calculated easily.

The behavior of void swelling and segregation in Fe-15Cr-xMn alloys and an alloy con- taining small amount of W and V was investigated by *** compositional analysis in the irradiated regions including grain boundaries was *** resultdts show that there are many common features of irradiuation tehavior in the Fe-Cr-Mn and Fe-Cr-Ni systems while there are some significant differences,In the Fe-Cr-Mn alloy sys- tems void swelling was rematrkably suppressed and at the same time the radiation-induced segregation was also retarded,furthermore,the segregation was strongly retarded in an Fe-15Cr-15Mn alloy containing small amount of W and *** results also show that Ni re- placed by Mn does not in general confer immunity from either swelling or phase instabilities. The phase instability is due to the different diffusion behavior of Ni and Mn in reponse to the operation of the inverse-Kirkendall *** segregates to the microstructural sinks in the Fe-Cr-Mn *** segregation of Fe often leads to the formation of *** fact is beneficial to reducing the swelling rate and segregation on the grain boundaries.

The 300 msw Simulated Saturation Diving Chamber Complex was designed and built by ourselves. It was completed at the end of 1985. A 300 msw trimixed saturation diving experiment was successfully conducted in the complex by Chinese Underwater technology Institute(CUTI) from May 22 to June 12 of 1987. During the experiment, 4 divers habitated in the complex for 20 days, and they performed 16 person-time excursion dives and 8 other tests. The result of the experiment indicates that the complex is well designed, suitably configurated, wholly integrated and steadily run, as well as of low leakage. The main functions of the complex have approached to those of the same kind in the world. The complex can be used as a basic facility for serving the nation's saturation diving technology, underwater operation, personnel training, etc.

The magnetic moment and the magnetostriction decrease slightly with the increase of total Si+B content.A maximum of the Curie temperature appears at about 25 at.-% of Si+*** magnetic anisotropy is uninfluential by the content of Si+B,but much influnce by the demagnetization effect of streak.A qualitative explanation of the experimental phenomenon seems to be noted by the aid of the electron transition and structure model of amorphous al- loys.
