Varietal Reaction of Cucumber against <i>Cucumber mosaic virus</i>

Family Cucurbitaceae is primarily found in the warmer regions of the world. It is the major family for economically important species, particularly edible fruits. In Pakistan cucurbits occupies an area of 28,600 ha with a very low production in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa due to many biotic and abiotic stresses. The reason is also the lack of growers’ awareness about the diseases and the cultural practices adopted to provide favorable environment for development of epidemics. Viral diseases such as Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) cause losses as high as 100%. Various control strategies are being used to control CMV. The aim of the current study was to screen out different verities and to find the most resistant one against CMV. CMV isolate was collected from farmer’s field at the site of TaruJaba during a survey of cucurbit crops. The identity of the virus was confirmed through DAS-ELISA using diagnostic kit (ADGEN, UK). Seventeen cucumber germplasm seeds were sown in earthen pots in which fourteen were germinated and exhibited characteristics symptoms of the virus while none of them showed resistance against CMV. Symptoms’ expression was delayed in summer green and local green till 12 days post inoculation. While in khyber, Diamond, VEGAF1 and Yousaf, symptoms started to appear soon after inoculation categorizing them as highly susceptible. No resistance is found in available commercial germplasm, so more germplasm from different area of Pakistan should be tested for resistance against CMV. If no resistance is found locally imported, germplasm can be evaluated for a source of resistance against the prevalent isolates of CMV.

Characterization of the Causal Organism of Soft Rot of Tomatoes and Other Vegetables and Evaluation of Its Most Aggressive Isolates

To isolate the causal organism of soft rot of vegetables, diseased samples of potato, tomato, carrot, chilies, and bell pepper, were analyzed in the lab, using nutrient agar (NA) and/or the enrichment host (Bell pepper) technique. Successful isolations were purified by sub-culturing, identified as Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora through biochemical tests and their pathogenicity was confirmed through inoculation on green tomato fruits. The isolates were tested for their aggressiveness to find out the most aggressive one in term of producing maximum soft rot on tomatoes. CRD (completely randomized design), with four replication was used and data were analyzed using LSD (least significant test) test. Among the five isolates evaluated for aggressiveness on tomato fruits, chili isolate was found to be the most aggressive followed by tomato and potato isolates producing 22.3 mm, 7.9 mm, and 7.8 mm diameter soft rot lesions, respectively.

Rare earth(RE)low doping has a significant influence on the structural,morphological,and magnetic properties of spinel ferrite ***,rare earth neodymium(Nd)oxide was fully doped into spinel ferrite with a composition of Co_(0.80)Ni_(0.20)Nd_xFe_(2-x)O_4(x=0.0,0.05,0.10,and 0.15)using the sol-gel auto combustion *** analysis of the synthesized samples with low doping of Nd using X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Rietveld refinements reveals a pure single-phase cubic structure,while the second phase appears with increasing content of Nd^(3+)at x=0.10 and *** electron microscopy(SEM)and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HR-TEM)show well-shaped spherical grains within the nanometer range of the pure Co_(0.80)Ni_(0.20)Fe_(2)O_(4) sample,while larger grains with the presence of agglomeration are observed with doping of Nd^(3+)into the spinel ferrite *** magnetic parameters,i.e.,saturation magnetization M_s,remanence and magnetic moments exhibit decreasing trend with Nd^(3+)doping and M_s values are in 65.69 to 53.34 emu/g *** coercivity of the Nd-doped Co-Ni spinel ferrite sample was calculated to be 1037.76 to~827.24 *** work demonstrates remarkable improvements in the structural and magnetic characteristics of Nddoped Co-Ni spinel ferrite nanoparticles for multiple versatile applications.

Biofluidics Study in Digestive System with Thermal Conductivity of Shape Nanosize H2O＋Cu Nanoparticles

In the present article, peristaltic transport of copper nano fluid in a curved channel with complaint walls is studied. Shape effects of nanosize particles are discussed. The mathematical formulation encompasses momentum and heat conservation equations with appropriate boundary conditions for compliant wails. Sophisticated correlations are employed for thermal conductivity of the nanoparticles. The nonlinear boundary value problem is normalized with appropriate variables and closed-form solutions are derived for stream function, pressure gradient and temperature profile. A detailed study is performed for the influence of various nanoparticle geometries （bricks, cylinders and platelets）. With greater curvature value, pressure gradient is enhanced for various nanoparticle geometries. Temperature is dramatically modified with nanoparticle geometry and greater thermal conductivity is achieved with brick shaped nanoparticles in the fluid.

Lifetime Estimation Based on Surface Degradation and Characterization of HTV Silicone-rubber Based Composites for HVAC and HVDC Transmission

In this paper,six different types of silicone rubberbased composites were investigated for applications in high voltage insulation through multi-stress accelerated aging conducted for a period of 5000 h both under AC and DC *** main goal of this study was lifetime prediction of HTV-SR based composites at a typical multi-stress aging *** diagnostic techniques such as hydrophobicity assessment,leakage current measurement and FTIR were incorporated to assess the *** an outcome of this investigation,all the five hybrid samples were found as quite resistant to aging while the neat sample was comparatively,less resistant to the ***,among the studied samples,TS2 and TS4 appeared to have shown the highest resistance to aging giving a service life of 43.2 and 42 years,respectively under AC *** DC stress the order of merit of investigated samples was identical to that of AC stress but having marginally less life spans.

Finite element model updating for structural damage detection using transmissibility data

This paper presents a new finite element model updating method for estimating structural parameters and detecting structural damage location and severity based on the structural responses(output-only data).The method uses the sensitivity relation of transmissibility data through a least-squares algorithm and appropriate normalization of the extracted *** proposed transmissibility-based sensitivity equation produces a more significant number of equations than the sensitivity equations based on the frequency response function(FRF),which can estimate the structural parameters with higher *** abilities of the proposed method are assessed by using numerical data of a two-story two-bay frame model and a plate structure *** evaluating different damage cases,the number,location,and stiffness reduction of the damaged elements and the severity of the simulated damage have been accurately *** reliability and stability of the presented method against measurement and modeling errors are examined using error-contaminated *** parameter estimation results prove the method’s capabilities as an accurate model updating algorithm.

Mesoporous tablet-shaped potato starch aerogels for loading and release of the poorly water-soluble drug celecoxib

In this study,after determination of the optimal values of the effective parameters in the synthesis using experimental design software,tablet-shaped potato starch aerogels were synthesized at the optimal condition in order to be used as a drug *** celecoxib,as the model drug,was loaded into the aerogel matrix during the solvent exchange ***(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy),FESEM and HRTEM(Transmission Electron Microscopy)analyses showed that celecoxib has been successfully loaded into aerogel ***,XRD analysis showed that most of the celecoxib has been loaded in amorphous *** vitro studies were performed in both simulated gastric and intestinal *** release kinetics showed that the loaded celecoxib dissolved faster than crystalline *** rotational speed of 100 r·min^-1,about 26%and 50%and at rotational speed of 50 r·min^-1,about 20%and 42%drug was released during the first 30 min of soaking in the simulated gastric fluid and simulated intestinal fluid,*** release of the mentioned drug was increased up to 60%and 98%at a rotational speed of 100 r·min^-1 and up to 46%and 93%at a rotational speed of 50 r·min^-1 at the end of 5 h in the simulated gastric fluid and simulated intestinal fluid,*** could be concluded that potato starch aerogels can be very useful in many drug delivery applications along with conventional micronization *** of release data showed that the release kinetics follows the Korsmeyer Peppas model,which considers phenomena of matrix erosion and drug diffusion.

Seed Mediated Growth of Gold Nanoparticles Based on Liquid Arc Discharge

We report studies on the growth of gold nanoparticles by a seed-mediated approach in solution. The synthetic method is adapted from one we published earlier （Ashkarran et al. Appl. Phys. A 2009, 96, 423）. The synthesized gold nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, dynamic light scattering （DLS）, UV-Vis spectroscopy, optical imaging and atomic force microscopy （AFM）. Optical absorption spectroscopy of the prepared samples at 15 A arc current in HAuCI4 solution shows a surface plasmon resonance around 520 nm. It is found that sodium citrate acts as a stabilizer and surface capping agent of the colloidal nanoparticles. The intensity of the plasmonic peak of the prepared gold nanoparticles for 1 minute arc duration gradually increases due to seed mediation for up to 6 hours. The formation time of gold nanoparticles at higher seed concentrations is less than that at lower seed concentrations.
