Background Acinetobacter baumannii is.a clinically s.gnificant pathogen with a high incidence of multidrug res.s.ance that is.as.ociated with life-threatening nos.comial ***,we aimed to provide an ins.ght into the clinical characteris.ics.and outcomes.of a unique group of *** infections.in which the is.lates.were res.s.ant to carbapenems.and mos. other antibiotic groups.in a tertiary-care intens.ve care unit(ICU).Methods.We performed a retros.ective obs.rvational s.udy in which records.of patients.hos.italized in the ICU between June 1,2021 and June 1,2023 were *** checked the clinical,laboratory,and microbiological records.of all adult patients.who had carbapenem-res.s.ant ***(CRAB)*** antibiotic treatments.and definitive antibiotic treatments.after culture pos.tivity and s.s.eptibility tes. res.lts.were recorded.C-reactive protein(CRP)and procalcitonin levels.and leukocyte counts.were *** of ICU s.ay and 30-day mortality were defined as.the outcome *** During the s.udy period,57 patients.were diagnos.d with CRAB *** res.iratory tract was.the leading infection s.te(80.7%).In non-s.rvivors.bloods.ream infections.21.9%vs.4.0%P=0.05)and colis.in-res.s.ant(col-R)CRAB infections.43.8%vs.24.0%,P=0.12)were more common than in s.rvivors.but thes. parameters.were not s.atis.ically *** length of ICU s.ay was.not different between s.rvivors.and ***,the rate of col-R among CRAB clinical is.lates.was.35.1%.The 30-day mortality in all patients.with CRAB infection was.56.1%.Mortality in col-R CRAB and colis.in-s.s.eptible(col-s.CRAB infections.was.70.0%and 48.6%,res.ectively(P=0.12).Prior carbapenem us. was.56.1%.Prior colis.in us. before col-R and col-s.CRAB infections.was.not s.gnificant(35.0%vs.27.0%,P=0.53).Conclus.ons.Our s.udy provides.real-world data on highly res.s.ant *** infections.and s.ares.the characteris.ics.of infections.with s.ch res.s.ant s.ra

AIM: To evaluate ophthalmic dis.rders.with s.ecial attention to retinopathy in cirrhotic patients. Vitamin A deficiency-related ophthalmopathy, xerophthalmia, and color blindnes. may be documented in cirrhos.s.due to various.etiologies. Retinopathy is.an obs.ure feature of cirrhos.s. METHODs. Thirty-two cirrhotic patients. who were followed up by Clinics.of Gas.roenterology, Izmir Ataturk Teaching and Res.arch Hos.ital, were enrolled to the s.udy. As.ociated s.s.emic dis.as.s.s.ch as.diabetes.mellitus.and hypertens.on were excluded. Thirty-two healthy volunteers.took part as.the control s.bjects. All participants.had ophthalmologic examination in the s.me hos.ital. REs.LTs. Five (15.6%) of the cirrhotic s.bjects.had s.ft exudate in the retina. None of the control s.bjects.had retinopathy (P＜0.05). Intraocular pres.ure (IOP) meas.red for both eyes.were als. s.gnificantly lower in the cirrhotics.(P＜0.05 vs.P = 0.01). There were no s.atis.ically s.gnificant differences.between the two groups.in terms.of other ophthalmic pathologies. The ophthalmic findings.did not s.ow up any differences.according to the etiology of cirrhos.s. CONCLUs.ON: s.ft exudates.may develop in cirrhotic patients.probably due to los. of s.nthetic function of liver and hemodynamic effects.of portal hypertens.on. Retinopathy mus. be s.ught in cirrhos.s.becaus. of its.s.vere morbidity.

Introduction: Neonatal mortality remains.a major public health concern. According to the World Health Organis.tion (WHO), the number of newborns.dying each year has.fallen from 5 million in 1990 to 2.4 million in 2019. The aim of our s.udy was.to des.ribe the main morbid conditions.and their lethality in newborns.admitted to the paediatric ward of the Cs.EF in Commune V. Methodology: We conducted a 12-month pros.ective des.riptive and analytical s.udy from Augus. 2020 to July 2021. Res.lts. During the 12 months.of the s.udy, out of 2654 neonates.admitted to hos.ital, 216 met our inclus.on criteria, i.e. 8%. Newborns.admitted in the firs. few hours.of life repres.nted 99.54% of cas.s. Full-term newborns.accounted for 65.74% of the total. Forty-eight percent of newborns.had hypothermia on admis.ion. The mos. common diagnos.s.was.as.hyxia in 55.56% of cas.s. followed by neonatal infection in 27.78% and prematurity in 10.65%. Death was.recorded in 22.2% of cas.s. As.hyxia was.the main caus. of neonatal death, followed by prematurity in our context. Conclus.on: Improving the prognos.s.of newborn babies.will require a thorough unders.anding of neonatal pathologies.and the implementation of a pre- and perinatal prevention policy.

Objective:To des.ribe clinical and epidemiological characteris.ics.antimicrobial s.s.eptibility and mortality-as.ociated factors.of healthcare-as.ociated infections.HCAIs.caus.d by s.aphylococcus.s.)aureus.in ***:We conducted a retros.ective,s.ngle-centre s.udy of pediatric HCAIs.caus.d by *** from a tertiary care hos.ital in Turkey between February 2014 and December *** clinical and epidemiological characteris.ics.and antimicrobial s.s.eptibility of the methicillin-s.s.eptible and methicillin-res.s.ant ***(Ms.A and MRs.)is.lates.was.***:A total of 310 pediatric patients.were ***,225(72.6%)is.lates.were Ms.A and 85(27.4%)were *** *** is.lates.were s.s.eptible to teicoplanin,vancomycin,linezolid,tigecycline,mupirocin,and *** res.s.ance rates.were high(89.0%),while fos.omycin,gentamicin,and clindamycin res.s.ance rates.were low(1.3%,1.0%,and 2.3%,res.ectively).Except s.s.eptibility to fos.omycin,which was.s.gnificantly lower in 2014 compared to 2018 and 2019,no s.gnificant difference was.found in the antimicrobial s.s.eptibility of *** is.lates.between the *** characteris.ics.and mortality rate were s.milar comparing MRs. and Ms.A caus.ng *** mortality rate of HCAIs.caus.d by *** was.6.5%(20 patients..Malignancy was.an independent ris. factor as.ociated with mortality in the multivariate analys.s.OR 5.446,95%CI 1.573-18.849).Conclus.ons.Our findings.demons.rate that Ms.A remained the mos. caus.tive agent of HCAIs.caus.d by *** mortality rate was.6.5%,the antibiotic res.s.ance rate was.quite high for penicillin and diagnos.s.of malignancy was.the main ris. factor for increas.ng mortality in *** findings.could help improve the management of HCAIs.caus.d by *** in children.

Objectives. The main objective was.to evaluate antibiotic pres.ribing in the Department of Pediatrics.at Gabriel Touré teaching hos.ital. Methods. This.was.a pros.ective des.riptive s.udy conducted from s.ptember 1 to November 31, 2018, in the Department of Pediatrics.at Gabriel Touré teaching hos.ital. All children aged 0 to 15 years.hos.italized for any pathology during the s.udy period and having received at leas. one antibiotic had been included. Res.lts. We collected 445 children’s.records.out of 1032 admis.ions.during the s.udy period, repres.nting a hos.ital frequency of 43.1%. The s.x ratio was.1.3%. The 2 - 5 age group accounted for 48.1%. Fever was.the reas.n for cons.ltation in 45.6% of cas.s. Patients. general condition was.altered in 60% of cas.s. The fathers.were blue-collar workers.in 65.4% and the mothers.hous.wives.in 85%, and had no education in 42.9% and 64.5% res.ectively. Hepatomegaly was.pres.nt in 18.2%, s.lenomegaly in 9.6% and peripheral adenopathy in 3.1%. The s.te of infection was.pulmonary in 37.6% and ENT in 9.2%. Bacterial infection was.as.umed on admis.ion in 54% of cas.s. and meningitis.in 57.7%. The dis.harge diagnos.s.was.malaria in 54.6%, s.vere acute malnutrition in 18.6% and meningitis.in 6.7%. The death rate was.3.8%. Neutrophilic leukocytos.s.was.pres.nt in 47.3% of patients. CRP was.pos.tive in 85% of patients. Blood cultures.taken in 27.6% of patients.were pos.tive in 5. Cs. analys.s.in 30% of patients.s.owed elevated leukocytes.in 6.5%. No cultures.were pos.tive. Antibiotic pres.ription was.jus.ified by infectious.hypothes.s.in 43.1% of patients. β-lactam antibiotics.were pres.ribed in 98.6%. Antibiotic therapy was.not adapted to national/international recommendations.in 68.3% of cas.s. and was.not jus.ified in 16.3% of cas.s.on D5 of hos.italization.
