Evaluation of wound healing and antimicrobial potentials of Ixora coccinea root extract

Objective:To evaluate the wound healing and antimicrobial activity of root extracts of Ixora coccinea(***).Methods:To investigate the wound healing efficacy of root extract of *** Linn,five groups of animals were divided each containing six *** wound models including incision and excision wound models were used in this *** parameters studied were tensile strength on incision wound model and in terms of wound contraction for excision wound model were compared with standard Nitrofurazone(NFZ) ointment(0.2%w/w). Six extracts(***,petroleum ether,benzene,chloroform and ethyl acetate ) of I. coccinea were screened for in vitro growth inhibiting activity against different bacterial strains riz. Staphylococcia *** pumilius,Enterococcus *** coli,Salmonella typhi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger were compared with the standard drugs ciprofloxacin and chloramphenicol for antibacterial and griscofulvin for antifungal *** serial dilution and cup(or) well plate methods were used for the antimicrobial study and MIC was ***:The ethanolic extract showed significant (P<0.001) wound healing activity when compared to standard drug NFZ with respect to normal control *** *** extract showed highly significant antibacterial activity against all bacterial strains used in this study when compared to *** aqueous extract showed moderate significant inhibition against all bacterial strains when compared to standard. All the extracts were shown negligible activity against the fungal strains used in this study. Management of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction

BACKGROUND: Splenic artery aneurysms although rare are clinically significant in view of their propensity for spontaneous rupture and life-threatening bleeding. While portal hypertension is an important etiological factor, the majority of reported cases are secondary to cirrhosis of the liver. We report three cases of splenic artery aneurysms associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction and discuss their management. METHODS: The records of three patients of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction managed from 2003 to 2010 were reviewed retrospectively. The clinical presentation, surgical treatment and outcome were analyzed. RESULTS: The aneurysm was >3 cm in all patients. The clinical symptoms were secondary to extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (hematemesis in two, portal biliopathy in two) while the aneurysm was asymptomatic. Doppler ultrasound demonstrated aneurysms in all patients. A proximal splenorenal shunt was performed in two patients with excision of the aneurysm in one patient and ligation of the aneurysm in another one. The third patient had the splenic vein replaced by collaterals and hence underwent splenectomy with aneurysmectomy. All patients had an uneventful post-operative course. CONCLUSIONS: Splenic artery aneurysms are associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment. Although technically difficult, it can be safely performed in an experienced center with minimal morbidity and good outcome.

Objective:To evaluate the wound healing activity of the methanolic root extract of Buchanania lanzan Spreng.(***),with a focus on antimicrobial and anti-biofilm ***:The extract was evaluated for its wound healing properties(excision and incision models)as evident from the analysis of tensile strength and wound *** extract was also screened for antibacterial properties against different Cram positive and Gram negative bacterial *** was also studied for its effect on biofilm formation and disruption of preformed *** synergistic effect of *** was determined in combination with ***:Topical application of ***(10%w/w ointment)significantly increased(40.84%)the tensile strength in the incision wound *** also showed significant wound healing activity in excision model and such significant activity was observed from the 9th *** Soframycin displayed significant wound healing activity from the 6th *** was found that root extracts of *** revealed significant inhibition against all tested *** displayed antimicrobial activity against Cram positive(MIC 0.625 mg/mL)and Cram negative(MIC0.625-1.25 mg/mL).*** was able to reduce biofilm formation and also caused disruption of preformed biofilms in a manner similar to ***,gentamicin was found to be ineffective against biofilms formed by Gram negative *** to the fractional inhibitory concentration index,*** displayed synergistic activity when it was combined with ***:From this study it may be concluded that the root extract of *** revealed significant wound healing potential,which was supported and well correlated with pronounced antibacterial activity of the tested plant parts.

Optimal Promotion and Replenishment Policies for Profit Maximization Model under Lost Units

Ever since its introduction in the second decade of the past century, the economic order quantity (EOQ) model has been the subject of extensive investigations and extensions by academicians. The physical characteristics of stocked items dictate the nature of inventory policies implemented to manage and control. The question is how reliable are the EOQ models when items stocked deteriorate one time. This paper introduces a modified EOQ model in which it assumes that a percentage of the on-hand inventory is wasted due to deterioration. There is hidden cost not account for when modeling inventory cost. We study the problem of promotion for a deteriorating item subject to loss of these deteriorated units. The objective of this paper is to determine the optimal time length, optimal units lost due to deterioration, the promotional effort and the replenishment quantity so that the net profit is maximized and the numerical analysis show that an appropriate promotion policy can benefit the retailer and that promotion policy is important, especially for deteriorating items. Furthermore crisp decision making is shown to be superior to crisp decision making without promotional effort cost in terms of profit maximization.

Spatial analysis of bacteria in brackish lake sediment

The spatial distribution of bacterial communities inhabiting sediment is heterogeneous at different spatial scales,but mostly ***,it is postulated that the heterogeneity of the bacterial community composition varies at the same scale of the heterogeneity of sediment chemical *** large spatial scale(km) diversity in sediment from a brackish water lagoon(Chilika Lake,India) is studied,considering the large scale physical and chemical characteristics of land cover,climate,pH,and ***-two samples(24 stations,3 seasons:winter,rainy,and summer) of sediment from Chilika Lake were analyzed by 16 S ribosomal ribonucleic acid(rRNA) gene sequencing,and the relations with land cover and other physico-chemical paramete rs are *** re samples were collected after a severe cyclonic storm(Phailin) passed near the lagoon in 2013,to see the impact of the tropical storm on the spatial and tempo ral distribution of bacteria in the *** results demonstrate clear spatial relations between physico-chemical parameters(e.g.,salinity),land surfaces(e.g.,drainage area),and the distribution of sediment microbial communities.

The novel recyclable free –ONNO– tetradentate Schiff base ligand N,N′‐bis(2‐hydroxy‐3‐ methox‐ybenzaldehyde)4‐methylbenzene‐1,2‐diamine (3‐MOBdMBn) was synthesized. Complexation of this ligand with zinc(3‐MOBdMBn‐Zn) was performed, and the catalytic activity of the complex was evaluated. The polymer‐supported analog of this complex(P‐3‐MOBdMBn‐Zn) was synthesized, and its catalytic activity was studied. These free and polymer‐anchored zinc complexes were prepared by the reactions of metal solutions with one molar equivalent of unsupported 3‐MOBdMBn or P‐3‐MOBdMBn in methanol under nitrogen. The catalytic activity of 3‐MOBdMBn‐Zn and P‐3‐MOBdMBn‐Zn was evaluated in phenol oxidation. The activity of P‐3‐MOBdMBn‐Zn was signif‐icantly affected by the polymer support, and the rate of phenol conversion was around 50% for polystyrene‐supported 3‐MOBdMBn. The experimental results indicated that the reaction rate was affected by the polymer support, and the rate of phenol conversion was 1.64 μmol/(L·s) in the presence of polystyrene‐supported 3‐MOBdMBn.

Constraining the relativistic mean-field models from PREX-2 data:effective forces revisited

Based on the current measurement of the neutron distribution radius(R_(n))of ^(208)Pb from the PREX-2 data,we revisited the recently developed G3 and IOPB-I force parameters by fine-tuning some specific couplings within the relativistic mean-field(RMF)***ω-ρ-mesons coupling and theρ-meson coupling are constrained to the experimental neutron radius of^(208)Pb without compromising the bulk properties of finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter *** modified parameter sets are applied to calculate the gross properties of finite nuclei such as binding energies,charge distributions,nuclear radii,pairing gaps,and single-particle *** root-mean-square deviations in binding energy and charge radius are estimated with respect to the available experimental data for 195 even-even nuclei,and the results compare favourably with the well-calibrated effective interactions of Skyrme,Gogny and other relativistic mean-field *** pairing gap estimations for modified G3 and IOPB-I for Sn isotopes are also compared with the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculation with the Gogny(D1S)*** isotopic shift and single-particle energy spacing are also calculated and compared with the experimental data for both original and modified versions of the G3 and IOPB-I parameter ***,both the modified parameter sets are used to obtain the various infinite nuclear matter observables at *** addition to these,the force parameters are adopted to calculate the properties of a high isospin asymmetry dense system such as neutron star matter and tested for validation using the constraint from GW170817 binary neutron star merger *** tuned forces predict relatively good results for finite and infinite nuclear matter systems and the current limitation on the neutron radius from PREX-2.A systematic analysis using these two refitted parameter sets over the nuclear chart will be communicated shortly.

Antioxidant, anti-quorum sensing and anti-biofilm potential of ethanolic leaf extract of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica

Objective: To investigate the antioxidant and anti-infective potential of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica extract. Methods: The antioxidant potentials were determined by DPPH radical scavenging, reducing power, hydroxyl radical scavenging and total antioxidant assays. We further examined anti-quorum sensing activity and inhibition of synthesis of pathogenic factor of Chromobacterium violaceum and Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1. Bioactive compounds were determined using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis. In silico analysis was conducted to determine the binding affinity of bioactive compounds of plant extracts for the quorum sensing regulatory receptor LasR. Results: DPPH assay showed that the ethanolic extract of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica at 500 μg/mL showed (86.96 ± 4.07)% and (74.83 ± 3.47)% inhibition, respectively. Hydroxyl radical scavenging assay showed (73.17 ± 3.03)% and (62.63 ± 4.59)% activity, respectively. The ethanolic extract of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica showed high level of attenuation of quorum sensing regulated pyocyanin production. Confocal laser scanning microscopic analysis revealed that the extracts had the potential to effectively inhibit biofilm formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Molecular docking analysis showed a better binding affinity of bioactive compounds from the extracts for the structure of LasR protein of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Conclusions: The ethanolic extracts of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica possess antioxidant activity and the potential to inhibit the quorum sensing system and its regulatory virulence traits in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1.
