Echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease caused by parasites belonging to the genus Echinococcus that primarily affect the *** western plateau and pastoral areas of China are high-risk regions for hepatic cystic echinococcosis and hepatic alveolar echinococcosis(HAE).The high late mortality rate associated with HAE underscores the critical need for early diagnosis to improve cure rates and mitigate the disease burden in endemic ***,the World Health Orga-nization recommends ultrasonography as the preferred initial screening method for hepatic ***,distinguishing between specific types of lesions,such as those of hepatic cystic echinococcosis and HAE,and other focal liver lesions is *** address this issue,contrast-enhanced ultrasound is recommended as a tool to differentiate solid and cysto-solid hepatic echino-coccosis from other focal liver lesions,significantly enhancing diagnostic *** this comprehensive review,we discuss the progression of hepatic echinococcosis and detail the imaging features of various types of echinococcosis using conventional,contrast-enhanced,and intraoperative ultrasound *** objective is to provide robust imaging evidence and guidance for early diagnosis,clinical decision making,and postoperative follow-up in regions with high disease prevalence.

Cashew tree has gradually moved from a purely ecological aspect to a socio-economic one, due to the marketing of its nuts. But production per area, estimated at between 424 and 547 kg/ha, remains low, in contrast to India (2nd largest producer) and Vietnam (3rd largest producer), whose yields range from 1000 to 1500 and 2000 to 2500 kg/ha respectively. This low yield is due to a number of factors, among which insect pests are the most damaging. Among these insects, termites are considered to be one of the main pests of cashew trees. The general objective of this study is to contribute to termite management through the use of bioinsecticides, an alternative to the use of chemicals in cashew orchards. Five (5) biological products were tested: Limocide, Carapa oil, Neem oil, Kitana and Kaskara. Among them, two products proved effective, with a mortality rate of over 50%. These were Limocide, whose LC50 was obtained in 24 h at a dose of 3.6 g/ml and 3.1 g/ml , giving a mortality rate of 57.66% ± 4.04% and 51.33 ± 2.08 respectively , and Carapa, at a dose of 4.5 g/ml, with an estimated mortality rate of 52.33% ± 1.52%. Such results have demonstrated the potential application of Limocide and Carapa biopesticides to sustainably control termites in cashew orchards of Côte d’Ivoire.

Prevalence and Factors Associated with Refractive Errors among University Students at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda

Introduction: WHO estimated that uncorrected refractive errors are the leading cause of visual impairment and second leading cause of blindness globally. University students are prone to developing refractive errors due to their curriculum that requires a lot of near work affecting their performance and quality of life unknowingly. Genetic and environmental factors are thought to play a role in the development of refractive errors. This study addresses the paucity of knowledge about refractive errors among university students in East Africa, providing a foundation for further research. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with refractive errors among students in the Faculty of Medicine at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study in which 368 undergraduate students selected using random sampling were assessed for refractive errors from March 2021-July 2021. Eligible participants were recruited and their VA assessment done after answering a questionnaire. Students whose VA improved on pin hole had subjective retinoscopy and results were compiled and imported to STATA 14 for analysis. Results: The prevalence of refractive errors was 26.36% with (95% CI) among university students especially myopia. Myopia is most predominant at 60%, followed by 37% Astigmatism and hyperopia of 3% among medical students. Astigmatism consisted of largely myopic astigmatism 72% (26) and 28% (10) compound/mixed astigmatism only. Student positive family history of refractive error was found to have a statistically significant relationship with refractive errors with AOR 1.68 (1.04 - 2.72) (95% CI) and P (0.032). Conclusion: The prevalence of refractive errors among university students, especially myopia, was found to be high and family history was associated with students having refractive errors.

Change in mechanical properties of rocks under static loading has been widely studied and ***, the response of rocks to cyclic loads is still a much-debated topic. Fatigue is the phenomenon when rocks under cyclic loading fail at much lower strength as compared to those subjected to the monotonic loading conditions. A few selected cored granodiorite and sandstone specimens have been subjected to uniaxial cyclic compression tests to obtain the unconfined fatigue strength and life. This study seeks to examine the effects of cyclic loading conditions, loading amplitude and applied stress level on the fatigue life of sandstone, as a soft rock, and granodiorite, as a hard rock, under uniaxial compression test. One aim of this study is to determine which of the loading conditions has a stronger effect on rock fatigue response. The fatigue response of hard rocks and soft rocks is also compared. It is shown that the loading amplitude is the most important factor affecting the cyclic response of the tested rocks. The more the loading amplitude, the shorter the fatigue life, and the greater the strength degradation. The granodiorite specimens showed more strength degradation compared to the sandstone specimens when subjected to cyclic loading. It is shown that failure modes of specimens under cyclic loadings are different from those under static loadings. More local cracks were observed under cyclic loadings especially for granodiorite rock specimens.

Integration of molybdenum disulfide （MoS2） onto high surface area photocathod is highly desired to minimize the overpotential for the solar-powered hydrogen evolution reaction （HER）. Semiconductor nanowires （NWs） are beneficial use in photoelectrochemistry because of their large electrochemically availab surface area and inherent ability to decouple light absorption and the transpo of minority carriers. Here, silicon （Si） NW arrays were employed as a mod photocathode system for MoS2 wrapping, and their solar-driven HER activil was evaluated. The photocathode is made up of a well-defined MoSJTiO2/Si coaxial NW heterostructure, which yielded photocurrent density up to 15 mA/cm2 （at 0 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode （RHE）） with goo stability under the operating conditions employed. This work reveals the earth-abundant electrocatalysts coupled with high surface area NW electrod~ can provide performance comparable to noble metal catalysts for photocathod hydrogen evolution.

Predicting enhancer-promoter interaction from genomic sequence with deep neural networks

Background:In the human genome,distal enhancers are involved in regulating target genes through proximal promoters by forming enhancer-promoter *** recently developed high-throughput experimental approaches have allowed us to recognize potential enhancer-promoter interactions genome-wide,it is still largely unclear to what extent the sequence-level information encoded in our genome help guide such ***:Here we report a new computational method (named "SPEID") using deep learning models to predict enhancer-promoter interactions based on sequence-based features only,when the locations of putative enhancers and promoters in a particular cell type are ***:Our results across six different cell types demonstrate that SPEID is effective in predicting enhancerpromoter interactions as compared to state-of-the-art methods that only use information from a single cell *** a proof-of-principle,we also applied SPEID to identify somatic non-coding mutations in melanoma samples that may have reduced enhancer-promoter interactions in tumor ***^ This work demonstrates that deep learning models can help reveal that sequence-based features alone are sufficient to reliably predict enhancer-promoter interactions genome-wide.

Background: Malondialdehyde(MDA) is a candidate general marker of oxidative stress(OS). We sought to assess the relation of MDA to Gulf War illness(GWI) and to a variety of ***: This is an observational study involving subjects from Southern California recruited from October 2011 to May 2014. MDA was assessed in 81 participants(41 GWI-cases, 40 controls). General and Gulf-specific exposures were elicited. MDA case–control comparison was restricted to 40 matched pairs. The potential association between MDA and exposures was assessed using regression analyses. Gulf-specific exposures were incorporated into a case-specific ***: Plasma MDA was significantly lower in GWI-cases than controls. Composite pesticide and fuel-solvent exposures negatively predicted MDA in the total sample, as well as in the analyses that included either GWI-cases or controls only. Self-reported exposure to organophosphate(OP) nerve gas was a strong predictor for lower MDA level in veterans with ***: Past pesticide exposures predicted lower MDA in both veterans with GWI and in healthy controls.

Prediction of Facial Height, Width, and Ratio from Thumbprints Ridge Count and its Possible Applications

The fingerprints and face recognition are two biometric processes that comprise methods for uniquely recognizing humans based on certain number of intrinsic physical or behavioral *** objectives of the study were to predict the facial height(FH),facial width,and ratios from thumbprints ridge count and its possible *** was a cross-sectional study.A total of 457 participants were recruited.A fingerprint live scanner was used to capture the plain *** facial photograph was captured using a digital ***’s correlation analysis was used for the relationship between thumbprint ridge density and facial linear ***‑wise linear multiple regression analysis was used to predict facial distances from thumbprint ridge *** result showed that in males the right ulnar ridge count correlates negatively with lower facial width(LFW),upper facial width/upper FH(UFW/UFH),lower FH/FH(LFH/FH),and positively with UFH and UFW/*** right and left proximal ridge counts correlate with LFW and UFH,*** males,the right ulnar ridge count predicts LFW,UFW/LFW,UFW/UFH,and LFH/*** upper face height I,LFW,height of lower third of the face,UFW/LFW was predicted by right radial ridge ***,height of lower third of the face,and LFH/FH were predicted from left ulnar ridge count whereas left proximal ridge count predicted *** females only,the special upper face height I was predicted by right ulnar ridge *** conclusion,thumbprint ridge counts can be used to predict FH,width,ratios among Hausa *** possible application of fingerprints in facial characterization for used in human biology,paleodemography,and forensic science was demonstrated.
