despite its proximity to other well studied islands, cebu has received little attention from herpetologists, most likely because of early deforestation and the perception very little natural habitat remains for amphibians and reptiles. In this study, we present a preliminary assessment of island＇s herpetofauna, focusing our field work on cebu＇s last remaining forest fragments and synthesizing all available historical museum distribution data. We surveyed amphibians and reptile populations using standardized methods to allow for comparisons between sites and assess sufficiency of sampling effort. Fieldwork resulted in a total of 27 species recorded from five study sites, complementing the 58 species previously known from the island. Together, our data and historical museum records increase the known number of cebu＇s resident species to 13 amphibians（frogs） and 63 reptiles（lizards, snakes, turtle, crocodile）. We recorded the continued persistence cebu＇s rare and endemic lizard（Brachymeles cebuensis） and secretive snakes such as Malayotyphlops hypogius, and Ramphotyhlops cumingii, which persist despite cebu＇s long history of widespread and continuous habitat degradation. Most species encountered, including common and widespread taxa, appeared to persist at low population abundances. To facilitate the immediate recovery of the remaining forest fragments, and resident herpetofauna, conservation effort must be sustained. However, prior to any conservation interventions, ecological baselines must be established to inform the process of recovery.

Estimating the Radial Profile of Edge Plasma Electrical Fluctuations in the IR-T1 Tokamak

The radial dependence of edge plasma turbulence is investigated in the IR-T1 *** radial profile of the fluctuation level and spectra are measured using an array of Langmuir probes(rake probe)in the r/a=0.75-1.2 *** all radial positions the edge plasma is turbulently unstable,with a broad band fluctuation spectrum in the frequency range f=10-1000 *** relative fluctuation level,as monitored by the ion saturation current J_(+),is always highest near the wall and decreases monotonically toward the plasma center,while the shape of the fluctuation power spectra is almost *** result of this experiment shows that in contrast to the more inner regions,the plasma near the wall does not simply have a small density fluctuation about a mean,but rather a shredded structure in which one can imagine that discrete shreds of plasma interact with one another rather than with the average background.

Increase of diagnostic Mirror Lifetime Using TiN coated Stainless Steel by Using a Plasma Focus device

Plasma-surface interaction experiments on TiN coated stainless steel 316L （S.S.316L） using a plasma focus （PF） device have been performed in an attempt to investigate whether we can use the hardness property of TiN against erosion to increase the lifetime of the mirrors used in plasma diagnostics equipment. Firstly, two similar S.S.316L samples were chosen for this purpose. One of the samples was coated with TiN by using a PF device, while the other was kept intact as a reference for investigating the effect of TiN coating. Then, in order to study the coating effects, these samples were exposed to 200 shots of hydrogen plasma with a total duration of 7 s in a tokamak. Before and after exposure, samples were analyzed by using atomic force microscopy （AFM）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, X-ray diffraction （XRd） and a spectrophotometer. It was found that the uncoated sample was severely damaged, its reflection dropped significantly, and it developed some cracks and lines, while no significant change was observed on the surface characteristic of the coated sample. Moreover the weight loss of the uncoated sample was higher in comparison to the coated one. Therefore the results of this experiment showed that the coating of S.S.316L by TiN using a PF device is a useful method to strengthen it against plasma erosion and with further optimization it could possibly be used in preparing plasma diagnostics mirrors.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir weld of dissimilar AZ31-O magnesium alloy to 6061-T6 aluminum alloy

dissimilar friction stir welding between AZ31-O Mg and 6061-T6 Al alloys was investigated. 3 mm thick plates of aluminum and magnesium were used. Friction stir welding operations were performed at different rotation and travel speeds. The rotation speeds varied from 600 to 1400 r/min, and the travel speed varied from 20 to 60 mm/min. defect-free weld was obtained with a rotation speed of 1000 r/min and travel speed of 40 mm/min. Metallographic studies showed that the grain size in the stir zone is much finer than that in the base metals. complex flow pattern was formed in the stir zone. Microhardness measurement revealed an uneven distribution in the stir zone. Tensile test results indicated that the tensile strength of the welded specimen is about 76% of AZ31 Mg alloy and 60% of the 6061 Al alloy in tensile strength. SEM fracture surface image of the welded specimen indicated that the welded specimen failed through brittle-mode fracture.

Increasing amounts of nitrogen fertilizer have been used in agriculture during the last decades to boost food production for the increasing global human *** marked increase in reactive nitrogen use has also contributed to severe nitrogen pollution and multiple impacts on human and ecosystems'health.1 Nitrogen is an important precursor to air pollution(e.g.,fine particulate matter,near-surface ozone),water pollution(algal blooms,nitrate contamination),biodiversity loss(nitrogen deposition and eutrophication),soil acidification(ammonium fertilizer use),and global warming(nitrous oxide).2 Agricultural nitrogen pollution has decreased in some high-income countries,such as those in the European Union(EU),during the last decades,but the remaining nitrogen pollution still causes serious *** societal cost of nitrogen pollution by agriculture in the EU has been estimated to range from V35 to V230 billion per year and this cost appears to be greater than the farm profits from nitrogen fertilizer use,which range from V20 to V80 billion per year.3 Socioeconomic trade-offs between farmers and society need to be introduced to decrease nitrogen pollution.

Pesticides and Breast cancer

Along with other etiological factors like genetics, family history, age, etc. there is growing scientific evidence that exposure to chemicals, including pesticides is associated with increased incidence of breast cancer among women. Various animal studies have demonstrated the carcinogenic effect of pesticides byacting as Xenoestrogen, interacting and disrupting estrogen receptors or by damaging breast tissue dNA inducing malignancy/catalyzing existing dNA mutation in susceptible individuals. Pesticide’s role as a contributing etiological factor in growing incidence of breast cancer is of particular concern as pesticides is one of the chemicals to which humans get exposed every day in significant concentration. In this review we describe various kinds of pesticides and their respective associations to breast cancer.

Objective:To summarize the recent literature discussing focal therapy for localized prostate ***:A thorough literature review was performed using PubMed to identify recent studies involving focal therapy for the treatment of localized prostate ***:In an effort to decrease the morbidity associated with prostate cancer treatment,many urologists are turning to focal therapy as an alternative treatment *** this approach,the cancer bearing portion of the prostate is targeted while leaving the benign tissue *** magnetic resonance imaging remains the gold standard for visualization during focal therapy,but new imaging modalities such as prostate specific membrane antigen/positron emission tomography and contrast enhanced ultrasound are being ***,several biomarkers,such as prostate cancer antigen 3 and prostate health index,are used in conjunction with imaging to improve risk stratification prior to focal ***,there are several novel technologies such as nanoparticles and transurethral devices that are under investigation for use in focal ***:Focal therapy is proving to be a promising option for the treatment of localized prostate ***,further study is needed to determine the true efficacy of these exciting new technologies.

The interaction of native calf thymus dNA （cT-dNA） with azorubine in 10 mM Tris-Hcl aqueous solution at neutral pH 7.4 was monitored by UV-vis absorption and voltammetric techniques. Upon addition of the azorubine, UV absorption band of dNA decreased. After addition different concentrations of cT-dNA, UV absorption band of azorubine showed hyperchromisity. The binding constants （K b ） for the azorubine with dNA was estimated to be 6.2×104M-1 . Electrochemical interaction of azorubine with ctdNA showed decrease in both peak current and no detectable potential shift was observed. The experimental results suggest that azorubine binds to dNA via an outside binding mode.

Petrology and Geochemical Properties of the Granitoid complex of chahar-Gonbad, Southeast Iran

The chargonbad batholite is located in Sirjan and southeast of magmatic zone of Urumieh-dokhtar. The main volume of this rocks consisted of Granodiorite and Monzogranite, but it’s also consists of Quartzdiorite, Tonalite and Syenogranite. They have allotrimorphic granular texture with subordinate porphyritic texture. Their enclaves consist of: xenoliths enclaves, microgranular mafic enclaves (diorite to Quartzdiorite in composition) and autolite enclaves (Tonalite, granodiorite and monzogranite in composition). The chargonbad batholite rocks are also cut by different types of dykes which are mainly consisted of dykes and veins of pegmatic stage, microgranular dykes (andesit and andesit basaltic in composition) and microgranular dykes that are similar to mafic enclaves. Evidence shows that regional examples represent properties of granitoids type I. As well as, Granite of Granitoid body of this area has magnesium nature and shows the cordellarian granites features. Based on the tectonomagmatic environment determination diagrams, all samples from the chahargonbad study area located in the arc island setting due to subduction and show the characteristic of active continental margin setting.
